Getting rid of "You haven't logged on here before"
According to the Samba docs, there's really no good way
to have Windows stop asking "You haven't logged on here before.
Would you like your settings saved?" or whatever nonsense
it actually says.
However, due to headaches getting profiles COPIED and not
merged with local copies as well as privacy concerns, I'd like to blast
the profiles subdirectory constantly. But that

Installing shared Windoze executables on a Samba share (fwd)
Hi,
I've got a Samba server here that runs great! I've got an NT machine on
my laptop and I can interface with the Samba server directly in any way
I want, except for one thing:
When I try to install a program (Visio) as a network shared app, the
installation always tells me "I've determined that the target drive
doesn't support long file names" after I choose to

SAMBA 1.9.18p10 problem
I have been using Samba 1.9.18p8 in a Solaris 2.6 machine for months
but suddenly this week there is a problem. Nothing's changed.
I have some persistent connection of my NTSP3 client to the samba share.
When I login as usual, it fails to mount the drive. It either prompt for
password but whatever password the samba rejects, or give a "Access is
Denied" when you try to access the

Suggestion for new 'dns proxy' feature?
Hi,
Am I right I thinking that if I turn on 'dns proxy', I can do
'\\smb.x.org' (if it fits into 15) letters?
I'd like to use 'dns proxy' but only for local addresses in my domain.
Would it be possible to do add a 'dns proxy local only = yes' or
something (new option) which won't use DNS to resolve names which have a
'.' in?

Win 95 Policy Nightmare Part 1
As I mentioned in a previous note, I'm a new Samba administrator.
I'm trying to set up both roving profiles and system policies on the
Win 95 machines in our computer lab here.
I have used the policy editor (POLEDIT.EXE) to define a CONFIG.POL,
which I have placed in the [netlogon] share. I also used a
newly-installed
Win 95 machine to create the exact *initial* configuration of

No uppercase chars in Win95 password?
We're running Samba 1.9.18p10 under Linux (kernel 2.0.35) to provide
services to 25 or so Win95 clients (Win 95 OSR 2).
We currently have the users telnet to our Linux server to change
their passwords. If the user puts any uppercase characters in their
password, Win 95 will not log them in. Mail (via IMAP) works fine,
so the UNIX passwd database appears to be OK. I looked over the

machine name lookups
We have been looking for a way to notify our users when they
are running low on disk quota, without sending them mail.
WinPopup actually seemed like the best way, so my partner
began looking at feeding quota output into smbclient -M
when quota was getting tight.
The only problem is that smbclient -M frequently fails to find
the client's host name. The -I parameter will often fix it, but

Followup to: Can't get Win95 to share after using policy
Regarding my earlier message (attached), the actual problem appears
to be that regardless of the policy settings (even removing CONFIG.POL
on the server!), I can't add File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft
Networks as a client service on the Win95 client computer!
How can I re-enable this?

nmbd crashing as domain controller
Hi,
We've been over this before many times, I think... it's about nmbd
crashing in 1.9.17 (all patchlevels, AFAIK).
Various suggestions have been suggested (cron jobs to kill off / restart
nmbd every hour) but no fixes to nmbd itself (I think).
Do the Samba team know of a fix (or could they do one; if they know what
the problem is)? A new [fast] machine added to our network recently

I have a little problem. I realize this may not be the right place to

max.col weirdness
Hi,
I think there's some rounding issue with returning the max column.

Transfer directly to voicemail?
Does anyone have a setup (or am I missing a simple thing here) to
transfer a caller directly to someone voicemail? Example: I receive a
call, the caller wants to speak with x, who I know is not in the office.
Other than transferring them to x's extension, which rings to timeout
and then picks up voicemail, can I transfer right into voicemail?
I am using all SIP phones in my setup (7960s).

Maximum number of X100P cards in the same * box
Hi all,
Which is the practical (from your experience) limit of the number of X100P
cards installed in a single Asterisk box?
Asterisk can work reliable with 6 X100P cards in the same box?
Anyone know when the 4 ports FXO Digium card will be available on the
market?
Many thanks,
Dan

Expanding SSHKnock shell script, a few questions please
Hi all,
Another Debian Etch fan here, running shorewall (shell) 3.2.6-2 (and Yes I''m going to upgrade when Lenny goes stable).
I already have the SSHKnock working, as documented on the website:
http://www.shorewall.net/PortKnocking.html
Thanks, works great!
In addition to the knock to open 22, I want to also ADD a redirect, from 2222 to 22 on an internal box. So, when I knock on 1600

Browse list problem sorted
Hi,
I posted a couple of times about a problem I was having with browsing,
where smbclient (and other clients) showed nothing in the browse list,
but wins.dat and browse.dat showed a list and the log showed the server
becoming the domain and local master browser.
Well, the problem turned out to be permissions on the .../samba/var and
.../samba/var/locks directories; not allowing the

How to get R to ignore certain values when analyzing a column in a data table ?
Apologies if this is in (one of the many) manuals somewhere... Trying
to switch to R from other stats programs.
Basically, I have a large data table I've dumped from a DB, some of
the values which are nulls '-' which I've converted to zeros. I've
read it in using read.table fine.
I want R to ignore the zero values when graphing or doing various
other calculations.
