smbstatus show open files when none are
I recently (a few weeks ago) installed 1.9.18p8 in order to get better performance with an Access Database, which along with adding a TCP_NODELAY in the [global] section has that working like a charm. Thing that's bugging me now is smbstatus. When I run it I see open files listed when I know that they aren't. The following output shows quite a few files open that aren't really. The

duplicated file removal: call for comment
This is a call for comments, regarding what you do expect when copying multible source tree roots leading to the same directory root, using rsync. This problem may be discussed now, because in versions before rsync-2.5.6, the algorithm for removing the so called "duplicated files" was broken. That's why we expect nobody used it anyway in earlier versions - but who knows.. Example:

postmaster alias
I have dovecot configured to use an LDAP database for mail delivery with dovecot-lda. All of of my user accounts and aliases work fine except for postmaster@ which consistantly bounces. I have compared the entry for postmaster with another working alias and see no difference. When I send mail to postmaster I get the following in the logs: Jun 11 02:11:13 server1 postfix/pipe[12083]: 6D6CF33444:

Broken pipe error in local copy mode
I get an error when copying a specific directory using rsync. It works for a lot of smaller files, but when it comes to a 1.2 GB file, it always fails with the following error: rsync: writefd_unbuffered failed to write 4 bytes: phase "unknown": Broken pipe rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(515) I've read at several places that this is an error

Sudden unexplained slowness on share (caused by duplicate UID?)
Hi, We have 5 Samba domain controllers, and 4 file servers. All are 4.2.10-Debian. Our file servers have been working fine until recently (on the 26th), when suddenly access to the \\users.store.example.com\user share (hostname p-cats) became extremely slow. Access to other shares on other machines is fine, and users is 128G total (smaller than other shares). The machine isn't under

Experimental FreeBSD ports / packages for test61
Hello, If anyone would like it I have provided a Dovecot 1.0 test61 port and package for FreeBSD 5.3 here. I made them for my own experimentation but thought they might be interesting to others I suppose. http://www.helenmarks.co.uk/~dom/dovecot/ These deviate from the stock test61 because I've updated and added a patch I wrote a long time ago for ioloop kqueue/kevent support in

Possible memory leak in smbd?
I noticed one of my smbd processes for one particular client (IUSR_JUNIPER) is taking 200MB in memory, far different from all the other smbd processes. Should I be concerned about a memory leak here? I don't think samba would be caching any files, so I can't see why it'd use this much memory. That windows client is a win2k IIS5 server, with well over 60 sites that are hosted off a

Working platform with FreeBSD + USB + MGE Ellipse (usbhid-ups)
Hi, I've have had some difficulties to run NUT on freebsd, but I finally managed to have something that work reliably enough. For those who may be interested, here is what I did. Os: FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE-p7, nut: 2.2.0, libusb: 0.1.12 First, I had to patch libusb with the changes submitted by Nevil Thatcher in the nutups forum in may 2006. Without this change, nothing works.

I help an NT admin that has recently added a redhat 8.0 based samba server to his network. the share is one that is a core service for the operation of the business and has about 50 users constantly accessing data from several accounting and tax preparation applications. One of the primary applications requires update farily recently as of late and the admin is having problems getting all files

Resources forks 'dot underscore' files locked indefinitely from MacOSX clients
We have a central samba file share for our designers (who all use OSX boxes, and mostly use Macromedia products) to work off of. I've lately been able to track down a lot of application quirks (mostly problems with errors when saving, about files being locked) to the Mac resource fork files being indefinitely locked. Here's a sample from a `smbstatus` 14853 DENY_NONE 0x1
