RJava and Orca...
It's cool, it's exciting, and much thanks to Duncan. He announced RJava yesterday (or this morning?) on the R-devel list, and it's really worth it. http://www.omegahat.org/RSJava for more details. But it does mean that we can run Orca code directly within R, (without Thomas' socket connections) (and also means that we really need a "stop" button, since killing

Turning on autocreate of maildirs - how?
Hi all, I have a dovecot v2.2.7 installation, and I would like dovecot to autocreate the Maildir mailbox when those mailboxes don't exist. Following the instructions at http://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailboxSettings have had no effect, the errors below are reported. As soon as I create the Maildir manually with maildirmake fetching mail starts working fine, so all of the messages about the

Correspondence and detrended correspondence analysis
Hi, I hope someone knows the answer to this or has a real good reference about it (I am using Legendre & Legendre, Numerical Ecology, 1998).... My data is a data.frame with locations as rows and vegetation assemblages / species as columns. I've done a PCA, a correspondance analysis (CA) using ca in ca package and a detrended correspondance analysis (DCA) using decorana from vegan package.

R-help: beginner question - Thank you! OUTLIERS
Hi, Thank you so much for all your rapid answers. I am impressed. What i didn't know was that i have to assign my data to an object to work further on. It was not clear from the help (at least for me) that 'data()' itself is calling data already in R packages. All of you make that clear. Now, if you can suggest any good package to use for identifying outliers it will be great

plot only partial plots
Hi everybody, I would like to plot only a part of a data frame, and identify the IDs for all the points with values higher than a certain value. I will try to be more explicit: I did a qqnorm plot of my data. It is obvious from the plot that all the sample quantiles which are in Theoretical Quantiles = or > than 1 belong to another group. To be sure about that I plot the cooks.distance

Memory failure!!!!
Hi, I am trying to increase the memory R can use. I am running R under Windows on a machine with 2 GB of physical RAM and 4GB of paged memory. I wrote in the R property windows --sdi --max-mem-size=4094M, but the R itself when it is doing a bayesian modelling (geoR) it stops at 1,096K and i get memory errors because it cannot allocate a new segment of about 500K of memory. I don't have

Z aware interpolation
Hello again, There is any package which does Z aware (real 3D) interpolations? It can be any method (IDW, kriging or spline) but it should take into consideration not only x and y coordinates for interpolation, but also z coordinate. I looked into different packages but it seems i didn't find the right one. The ultimate goal is to import the output into a GIS (Geographical Information

aov and data behind plots
Hi y'all, First of all many thanks to Christian, Petr and Spencer for their replies. Your answers helped me to learn few more triks since then ;-) Now i have a question relating "aov". When i use aov i end up with 4 plots. How do i "see" the data behind those plots? I know about summary - but this gives me only some statistical info. Also, if i want to identify which

R-help: beginner question
Hi, I am a beginner user of R. I have a trivial question ? I am almost ashamed I cannot figure it out does not matter how many times I am reading the help. I have a table in .txt format, tab delimited. I can read it with ?read.delim()? with no problems. Afterwards I would like to use boxplot function to see if there are any outliers in the column 5 of my data called TPAH16.ppm In the

hpa-tftp with xinetd
Good day, Just a quick question- could someone please confirm that this is the correct xinetd configuration (or not) for hpa-tftp? We've noticed that, when under moderate load hpa-tftpd resides in memory, even after there are no connections or even if xinetd is shut down. Under light load the server goes away after each connection, as desired. Thanks in advance! service tftp {

Ord-Getis O statistics
Hi list, I am wondering if anybody knows if the Ord-Getis O statistics of local spatial autocorrelation in the presence of the global spatial association is implemented in any of the R packages - and of course in which package ;-)). I am not interested in Getis-Ord G statistics, for now. Thank you in advance, Monica Monica Palaseanu-Lovejoy University of Manchester School of Geography

vardiag package help
Hi, First of all a big THANK YOU to all who answered me yesterday. I am back to my problems with outliers. I did a qqnorm on my data (as somebody suggested), but I will like to compare results doing other plots as well. I used ?cook.distance? on lm and glm objects, but still I am not happy with that. So now I am loading the ?vardiag? package. First thing is to transform my data

Meta-Analysis of proportions
Dear colleagues, I'm conducting a meta-analysis of studies evaluating adherence of HIV-positive drug users into AIDS treatment, therefore I'm looking for some advice and syntax suggestion for running the meta-regression using proportions, not the usual OR/RR frequently used on RCT studies. Have already searched already several handbooks, R-manuals, mailing lists, professors, but... not

Samba locking fails over NFS
Good day, Our Windows users aren't able to edit their MS Office files over our Samba shares (Samba 3.0.10, CentOS4 w/ their i386 RPM). It looks like the clients' attempts to lock the files fails. When their client attempts to open such a file, Samba reports: ----------8<----------------------- [2006/10/27 15:55:57, 0] locking/posix.c:posix_fcntl_lock(657) posix_fcntl_lock:

Plot command drops part of the plot for large plots in multiple figure environment
I have run into some surprising behaviour when plotting data in a 3x2 grid: random parts of the data on my graphs aren't rendered. Not on screen, not on file, and not when I send the plot to a printer. I don't get any error messages either. When I do the individual plots (not in a grid) they are each rendered correctly. My questions are: - Has anyone encountered something like this,

hpa-tftp source port selection
Good day, I'd just like a bit of information about the source ports that hpa-tftp uses for its TFTP file transfers. We're using it to transfer files across a network that we have heavily firewalled. So, we'd like to know which ports the TFTP server might use as the source port for its data transfers and/or any ways to configure a range that it can use. I dug through the man page,

Windows issue...
Hi all, I have been using RSYNC to backup data from a Windows XP box to a Linux box successfully for some time. Recently I tried to RSYNC from a Windows XP box to a Windows XP box. It does function. However when a file is deleted on the source, then RSYNC is performed, the destination does not DELETE the file. Is this a limitation of RSYNC on Windows? This is the command line I use to
