winxp + sp3 = samba-shared printer hangs the system
hi,
since I upgraded some winxp-pro sp2 client to sp3, my samba-shared
printers are no-longer usable :-/
With sp3, if I run notepad and choose the men? File-Print, the "print"
window hangs and does not show any printer for about 1 minute! The
same thing happens when I click on the men? Start-settings-Printer and
faxes.
With sp2, everything works correctly and I can browse all my

WINEPS insists on using LPT1:
I'm running Wine 20010305. I am using the WINEPS driver and trying to
direct it to various printers on various ports. It seems to output to
port LPT1 regardless of the port I specify in the registry and
win.ini.
Here is a simplified scenario, in which I define only one printer, on
LPT2.
Can any one tell me what is happening?
Follow-up question: Am I limited to 9 printers, on LPT1-LPT9?

Problems while running lpq but lpr works... (samba bug?)
Hi,
I am using samba samba-1.9.18p10 quite happily on a FreeBSD-STABLE
system.
The printing works (the paper comes out of the printer) but when I
examine the printer queue on the Windows machine, it is always empty
(even if the printer is offline).
By turning on the debugging I saw the follwing output in the logfile:
Running the command `lpr -r -s -P kyo /var/spool/samba/mobifi.n23036'

Samba and Win2k: Printing from Outlook Express
Hi,
we are operating the IT of a small non-profit organization with a Samba
server (2.2.5) and roughly 15 Win2k workstations. Everything works
fine so far but one single issue: Printing messages from Outlook
Express: only the header of the mail is printed, no single line of the body.
All the domain users are standard-users (I'm not sure about the
correct English wording, may be someone

will the 2.2.6 release show the printers in the 'add-new-printer-wizzard'
on the client like the WINDOWS server do ?
I'm not sure if you know what I mean, so here is a little illustration:

Samba 2.2.8a on RedHatLinux 8.0
I have installed Samba2.2.8a on a RedHatLinux 8.0 server. After trying
several different changes to the 'smb.conf' file and several other
tests I still cannot see the samba Server from the windows XP and
windows 2000 client. When I run smbclient -L localhost this is what I
get:
added interface ip='ip address of my host' bcast=x.y.z.255(actual

NT Add Printer Wizard, printers not browseable
Hi,
When I use the windows nt or Windows 2000 add printer Wizard (tool)
and browse for the printers they are not listed as available.
I have to select the Samba-host NETBIOS name before printers become
browseable.
What I want is to use The "Add printer Wizard", Browse, and find a list
or printers available..

Printing using a different NT account
We are having a problem printing from a Sun machine to NT using Samba. The
NT admins would like us to use an account other than the Guest account for
printing so that they can disable the Guest account. The printer scripts
have been changed to add the -U UNIXPRT option, but no matter what syntax we
try to use, the -U option is ignored and the connection is made via the
Guest account. I have

problem with samba saving credentials
I have a samba server which is providing print services. There are times
when we must deny printing to certain user names and are accomplishing
this by having a preexec script which checks the username against a list
and will deny access to the share based on that. This has been working
very well except that now I also have a list of allowed users for
certain printers (color). This is also done in

printer management speed
Hello,
We are testing Samba 3 as a replacement for our Windows 2000 file and print services. I have noticed that doing any printer management operation seems to take a very long time. Opening the 'Printers' share on the samba server takes 10-15 seconds and opening Properties for a printer has taken anywhere from 15 seconds to well over a minute depending on the printer. Performing the
