Performance on solaris 2.5
Hi all, I've installed samba on a sun sparc-station with solaris 2.5. But when i'm doing something that's using the network really intense (like mp3-files playing over the network) the feed is not constant. With mp3 files you can that because you have pauses during the playing of the song. Is this a configuration mistake or something ? cu, Patrick

machine name lookups
We have been looking for a way to notify our users when they are running low on disk quota, without sending them mail. WinPopup actually seemed like the best way, so my partner began looking at feeding quota output into smbclient -M when quota was getting tight. The only problem is that smbclient -M frequently fails to find the client's host name. The -I parameter will often fix it, but I am

allow host syntax
Is there anyway to specify a range of IP addresses such as 128.1.10.11 to 128.1.10.29 in this parameter ? I cannot find the man page for hosts_access(5) as mentioned in the smb.conf documentation. Thanks Robert

WINS server usage
I have a class C address space divided into 3 subnets. I have a Samba server on each subnet and all 3 subnets are under the same Domain/Workgroup. My browsing works fine. But when the frame relay between the subnets goes down, the 2 subnets that don't have the WINS server local cant find their local Samba server. Do I need to have a WINS server on each subnet to keep this from happening? Is

ACLs: Group ACL adds empty ACL for user of same name, why?
I'm playing around with ACLs, Groups and SOGo on Debian Stable, Dovecot 1.2.15. If I set an ACL for a group 'developers': 6 setacl "INBOX.Trash" "$developers" "lrsw" 6 OK Setacl complete. The dovecot-acl file for INBOX.Trash then contains a group setting for the group, and a user setting for a user of the same name, giving it no permissions.

I would also like to help as well. As KMacy knows before i asked a lot of questions for T2 types of servers but unfortunately i have no more access to those kind of hardware as well. I;m willing to participate if a team will be formated.

[LLVMdev] is anyone using the sparc backend?
Hi Pawel, > We can not let it die and I volunteer to keep the Sparc alive! > > My SPARCstation pizzaboxes can be ready for action in a day or two. there are three sparc buildbots which are hooked up to lab.llvm.org. They are currently idle because no builders have been scheduled to use them: # gcc54 36G 0.5 GHz TI UltraSparc IIe (Hummingbird) / 1.5 GB RAM / Sun Netra T1 200 /

Sun Servers with UltraSparc Processors
Hi, I'm just considering buying two Telecoms grade Sun Netra's to run a lab-based VoIP solution. Not my immediate thoughts as a VoIP platform, but from what I've heard, they can run Linux, and run it well. Only thing is: The Wiki and the Whitepaper just state that Asterisk is for the x86 architecture, but has been compiled to run on PPC architectures. No mention of UltraSparc.

Build problems with non-standard location of mysql libs
Overall the build process for dovecot is very clean. I did however run into a significant problem when it came to locating the mysql libraries, especially when building a 64 bit executable but similar problems occured building a 32 bit executable. I am describing the 64 bit build issues below since that is the worst case scenario. Fixing the 64 bit build will automatically fix the 32 bit

Hot swap CPU
From: Rodrigo Barbosa <rodrigob at suespammers.org> > Btw, don't quote me on this one :) > I'm only 90% sure of the hotswapping capabilities, and less than 50% > sure about the price :) There _are_ systems with hot-swap CPUs, memory and/or, PCI[-X] slots. They are _not_ commodity and pricey, and require OS-level support. In fact, I believe Linux 2.6 has some support for

[Bridge] Sparc Bridge problems
Santiago, I appreciate your offer. I'm not really a kernel hacker, however I do know C and I would be willing to try if you point me in the right direction. Here is my first attempt using Debian running on an UltraSPARC: debian{root}:/root<512>strace -f -F -v brctl addbr br0 execve("/usr/sbin/brctl", ["brctl", "addbr", "br0"], [/* 16 vars */]) =

win98 vs win95 with TCP/IP
You wrote: I have been disappointed that I can't use Linux+Samba as an alternative to a Win9x or NT server for our GP medical practice. The software we need runs in win9x. We crave stability. But Linux+Samba is just much slower as a file server. It's normally quite fast: are you running over a dial-up network, requiring you to adust MTU's for speed??? If not, try ``socket

Sun Microsystems Quad gigabit ethernet nic compatibility
Hello I am thinking of buying this card to and wanted to know if this NIC is supported. The card is a Sun Microsystems PCI-X Quad-Port Gigabit Ethernet Adapter QGEXPCI 501-6738-10. Can't find any info on how well the card plays with centos and also proxmox ve (if any of you use that distro ) If things don't seem to work I may bite the bullet and buy an Intel card thanks Rafeal Stewart
