smbpasswd and nmbd don't call my password program
I have samba-1.9.18p7-2
smb.conf says:
# Configure smbpasswd
passwd chat debug = yes
# Default
passwd chat = *old*password* %o\n *new*password* %n\n *new*password* %n\n
*changed*
passwd program = /usr/bin/yppasswd
Using smbpasswd, my encrypted password is changed, but yppasswd is not even
touched (as per ls -lu /usr/bin/yppasswd).
Furthermore, running smbd with -d 100 didn't seem to show

how to stop WfWG local browse master announcements?
this isn't strictly a samba question, but it is related in that i'm trying
to a samba server as my domain master browser and multiple samba servers
as local master browsers for a workgroup across multiple subnets.
everything seems to be working wonderfully except for one WfWG host
which does not show up in the browse list as expected. i notice that
this host is announcing itself as a

cannot access samba from WfWg running trumpet winsock
Hi all!
Here is my problem: I have installed RedHat Linux version 6.0 on a
computer and I want to share its resources via samba. Unfortunately, my
computer - which is running WfWg 3.11 for Eastern Europe and the trumpet
winsock TCP/IP stack is not able to see the samba server. Other
computers, running Win95, Linux and WfWg with M$ TCP/IP stack perform
OK.
I have tried the following combinations:

Windows 3.1 and Samba
Has anybody got some experience with connecting machines running Windows3.1
or WfWG (3.11) to Samba? We would like to run a small lab network with
user accounts and a shared printer off the samba box. Samba is running fine
and there's no problem to connect to it from the Win95/WinNT machines...
Any help appreciated.

Well. In the industrial environment you may find everything ranging from
CPM-86 onwards... old things talk via RS-232 or 422, the LAN equipped are
regarded as "modern". In general all are

NT domain logon questions
Hi. Myself and a anti-Micro$oft companion tried to get
NT domain logons working yesterday and seem pretty close, but
not quite.
Samba is 1.9.18alpha3, server is an Ultra-2 running SunOS 5.5.1.
Encrypted passwords seem to be working, a la smbclient and mostly
from NT, "mostly" because it *seemed* to be working but we did
have some problems with home directories in smbpasswd changing

netlogon error?
Greetings all,
I'm running a RedHat 5.0 (kernel 2.0.32) Linux box with samba 1.9.18p7 and
I'm having a problem with my netlogon share. NT domain logons are working
just fine, but I keep getting the following message in /var/log/messages,
repeated every day for every user logging in:
May 26 09:08:09 gromit PAM_pwdb[23002]: 1 authentication failure; (uid=0)

lmhosts
this may be a remedial question, but uh, what's /etc/lmhosts supposed to
be? smbclient always complains that it doesn't exist... should it?
thanks...

Linux can't telnet to WFW 3.11
My server is RH 5.2 and i use Samba 1.9.18p10 and the client use WFW 3.11 with
tcp/ip protocols installed. The subnet and the IP Address is right but I still
only telnet form WFW 3.11 to Linux...not the reverse. On Linux telnet is
working. I've checked it through this cmdline "telnet localhost 23 or telnet
127.0.0.1" . And I also testparm smb.conf and nothing wrong happen. FYI I set

Since we reinstalled our machine we can't connect any external hosts,
but we can connect the gateway server.
The same box is when booted up with linux (Debian unstable) just works fine.

asterisk T100P to Merlin Legend
Management just approved purchase of a Digium T100P and a T1 card for
our Merlin Legend Switch. I will appreciate comments from anyone
performing this installation before:
- Which T1 card did you use in the Merlin Legend?
- Did you require any special interface? (CSU/DSU, etc)
- Any items to watch during installation.
Also we will need to remove one of our old analog Trunk cards to
accomodate

Upgrade from 2.3.1 to 2.6.6 fail
Hi all,
I upgrade my rsync from 2.3.1 to 2.6.6 today in the client host, everything
seems not working after the migration.
I didn't touch the rsync server.
Herewith is the log from my rsync server. I looks like something related to
IPV6, anyone has any idea?

Rsync Client (merlin) : Solaris 8 with rsync 2.6.6

dell says bye bye to Linux
Well. A priori. I'm a dedicated legacy OS person. I cut my teeth on
command line DOS and then WIN 3.xx (these days that means WFWG 3.11). I drew
the line at WIN9x. Hate that beast with a true passion, but because it is
the 800 pound gorilla, I have to find some way to accomodate it in the
future.
So, here is the rub. Linux is a real PITA. Capital PITA. Unbelievably techie
and that is bad.

Does NUT include support for older UPSD servers?
I have a network with two older systems protected by APC UPSs. Both
systems run OS/2 and will continue to do so. Both systems have APC
PowerChute Plus 4.2.3 installed and I can use that software to monitor
and control both systems.
I am also now running several linux systems, in fact I spend almost all
my time on the linux systems and these OS/2 systems are servers running

Migration to Asterisk - Running off of Merlin Legend system
We currently have a Merlin Legend system. The voicemail is falling apart
(with the transition to a 10 digit timestamp on Sept. 8, 2001, the system
locked up and refused to take calls; the official solution is to change
the system time back to a year with a matching calendar). We are in the
process of preparing the network infrastructure to support a VoIP system
with Asterisk, but won't be

(Analog Intercom) PagePal by ATT -- was hooked to a Merlin
I'm replacing a Merlin for a client and they have a PagePal Intercom
that I would like to reuse.
Here is what I know about it:
It has a screw-down wires that goto rj-11 (This was told to me over the
phone) that went into one of the Merlin ports.
I tried bring it up with fxo_ks and fxo_ls (assuming it was analog and
autoanswered) but no luck.
I would be happy to replace if anyone knows of

asterisk server as a voicemail server for legacy PBX -- FXO or FXS???
Hey All,
I'll be configuring an asterisk box to be the voicemail server to an old
Merlin system which had an octel 100 voicemail server that is now dying.
My question is simple: do I need to stick an FXO card in the asterisk
box? My logic is that if the Merlin Magix system is actually generating
electrical current, then I would need to have an fxo card. Is this
correct?
