Dear Samba Developers, OS: Linux 2.0.31 Samba1.9.17p4 today I detected that smbstatus shows more users logged in as really using the samba service. It seems that at logoff sometimes the smbd won't die and won't free the used tcp/ip socket: Output from "netstat -a": Active Internet connections (including servers) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address

"getent passwd" doesn't list domain users
__________________ Hi all, I've configured samba 3.0 as a domain memeber in NT 4.0 domain. Server has been added to the domain, without any problems, BUT, for three days...., I'm not able to find a way how to use NT domain resourses for this samba server. I can list domain users and groups with "wbinfo" command from but "getent passwd" lists only the local

Hello, Am running Bind 9 in Cent OS 5.1. I have a DNS server, that: - DNS server to hosts in lab.company.com - 192.168.17.x - forwards query to company.com - 10.100.x.x. Problem: 1. FQDN and by-IP-address ping and nslookup is successful. 2. ping/nslookup by host-name-only --- from any 192.168.17.x hosts to any 10.100.x.x hosts fail and vice versa. Notes when changing network IP Addresses
I struggled for this for a few hours, so in case anyone else has this problem in the future: I just switched over a network from public IP addresses to a private subnet (10.100.X.X). After which and I started having problems with our NT Workstations accessing the Backup Domain Controller. So, I looked at the config for our BDC and everything looked fine, except whenever I tried to use any net

Summary using by() returns character arrays in a list
I use by() to generate a summary statistics like so: Lbys <- by(dat[Nidx], dat$LipTest, summary) where Nidx is an index vector with names picking out the columns in the data frame dat. This returns a list of character arrays (see below for str() output) where the columns are named correctly but the rownames are empty strings and the values are strings prepended with the summary

An example of very slow computation
This message is about a curious difference in timing between two ways of computing the same function. One uses expm, so is expected to be a bit slower, but "a bit" turned out to be a factor of >1000. The code is below. We would be grateful if anyone can point out any egregious bad practice in our code, or enlighten us on why one approach is so much slower than the other. The problem

Connection Problems
I am having problems with Samba. Things have been working I think but they aren't now. We have 2 class C addresses, one doesn't seem to be having as many problems as the other. When folks on the 207 side try to connect to Samba shares they can usually but right now are failing and getting a network busy error. The file called log. which appears to be a system log file for samba says:

VPN As SIP Tunneling?
Hi All Could a VPN be used to help with SIP Tunneling and QoS issues. State 1: Two IP Networks Connected via the Public Internet transmitting VoIP Traffic Say a VoIP User and VoIP Termination Provider. Each side can put QoS onto their part, but if QoS does NOT exist between them then call quality will be bad anyhow. State 2: Same as above except a VPN tunnel is setup between each side. Thus

Hello! I have been using Samba for 2,5 years now. I have had the same problem since I started - I can not connect the Samba server from a W98 pc when the server security level is set to USER. So I have dropped security and use SHARE instead. I can see the share from the Window-client, but when I try to double click i get an error message saying: "Write networkpassword: , Resourse:

Asking for Password
Please forgive me but I am pretty new to Linux. I have Samba set up on a Server and when I go to access it from a windows workstation one, a box pops up with the resourse as \\servername\IPC$ <file://\\servername\IPC$> asking for a password. I have the right domain and my username is the same as my windows password? Why would I be getting these messages? What am I doing wrong?
