Visual Studio C++ problems
Since upgrading samba to version 2.0.3, we're now unable to create new Visual
C++ files, projects and build executables in network home directories. No
other problems are reported!
When creating a new Project an error message occurs: "The specified
filename is invalid", except C++ goes ahead and creates the directory. It
does create the necessary directory, but never seems to find

problems with samba 1.9.18p8
I recently installed samba 1.9.18p8. Since then, we get the following
error:
"No domain server was available to validate your password. You may not be
able to gain access to some network resources."
after the server has been running for >48 hours. If I stop and restart the
server, everything is ok again. Our samba server is a Sun Ultra 2170

Binding to AD 2016
Hello.
We have a file server running Samba version 3.5.4-0.70.el5 on Red Hat
Enterprise Linux Server release 5.6 that is bound to our AD domain and uses
AD for authentication and file ownership.
Additionally, we have a few other Linux VMs of similar vintage (RedHat 5.x)
that are bound to AD using Winbind (Samba v 3.0, 3.3, 3.5).
Our present AD environment is running at 2003 functional level.

Making DOS Boot Disks for Samba
Thanks to several very helpful souls on this list we have been able to
replace ndis2 NIC drivers and boot successfully in DOS, map a Samba drive
... permitting us to use a DOS Ghost to build lab systems.
The guy who figured this stuff out last year has left the college and I
don't understand what protocols, or clients he used to support a DOS-Samba
connection. (I'ld be lost if I had to

puppet-selinux
Hi all,
I''m having some problems working with puppet-selinux[1]
I''ve successfully deployed the module in nodes.pp and got it to set
various SELinux modes, by using
class { selinux: mode => ''permissive'' }
or
class { selinux: mode => ''enforcing'' }
Now I want to load a custom SELinux policy file. According to the docs,

extracting object names as strings
Hi,
I'm looking for a function which returns the name of the argument
object as a string:
>vect <- 1:3
>function(vect)
"vect"
I've looked at 'name', 'names', 'objects', none seem to do exactly what I
want. ls/objects comes close, but I can't figure out how to force it to
give me only one object name.

saving plots
Hi all, I am have an R script that makes many plots, and I would like to
string them into a movie file. To do that I have to save all of my plots as
jpegs or gifs. I don't want to go through all of my plots and save them by
hand though. Is there a way to automate saving the plots as a gif or a jpeg
so I can string them into a movie?
Thanks in advance

evaluating the contents of a string
Hi,
suppose I do:
b <- matrix(1:9,3,3)
bname <- "b"
now
dim(b)
returns
[1] 3 3
and
dim(bname)
returns
NULL
is there a function to pass bname to such that dim returns the dimensions
of b?
like
dim(somefunc(bname))
returns
[1] 3 3
does 'somefunc' exist?

mixed versions, mixed UIDs
Hello,
I've inherited a set of servers running Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server
release 5.9. They have some variant of samba 3.3 on them (e.g. Version
3.3.8-0.52.el5_5.2). These servers are using Samba and Winbind as a way to
bind to our Active Directory environment as domain members.
We also have a domain member file server running the following:

Classful queues
Dear all,
I am trying to set up multi-user traffic control. In short, I want each
user to be hard limited to 128kbit download and 64kbit upload. On top of
that, I want interactive traffic (ICMP, ACK packets, SSH, etc) to be
prioritised to minimise latency. It sounds like it ought to be done with
a classful qdisc but I don''t really know what I''m doing. I think I want

make tc stop!
I want to stop shaping from running on my box, without rebooting it.
What''s the best way to get rid of any tc rules?
I have tried "tc qdisc del dev eth0 root" which appeared to be
successful but traffic through my box is still very slow.
Cheers,
Jonathan

USE_CXX1X, Snow Leopard R binaries + Mavericks
Hi R-devel,
I'm noticing the following behaviour:
writeLines("#include <Rcpp.h>", file = "test.cpp")
Rcpp::sourceCpp("~/test.cpp") ## succeeds at trivial compile
Sys.setenv("USE_CXX1X" = "yes")
Rcpp::sourceCpp("~/test.cpp") ## fails; CXX nor CXX1X properly set (?)
IIUC, R is not propagating CXX nor CXX1X when

[LLVMdev] ccbench: compiler shotout benchmark script
Hi All !
Recently in the mailing list there was the question about benchmarking
LLVM. I was told that LLVM get's benchmarked in the nightly test.
While this is true, I wanted to have a tool to compare LLVM against
other compilers, so I wrote a little python program (attached) that
filled my need.
It is completely outside of the LLVM makefile framework, but this stems
from the fact that I

WINS problem discovered and fixed!! browsing speedup of 20X for large networks
Ok, after several months of pulling my hair out I finally fixed WINS and
browsing at out Univesity. It ended up being an acutal bug, er bad code
segment. To explain we have a large number of clients ~1000+ at any one
time over 6 subnets. Browsing was spuratic at best. nmbd sucked up %70
of the proccessing power of a sparc 5. Well after serious investigation
I traced it down to two lines of

ANCOVA
Dear R-help list,
I am attempting to understand the proper formulation of ANCOVA's in R. I
would like to test both parallelism and intercept equality for some data
sets, so I have generated an artificial data set to ease my understanding.
This is what I have done
#Limits of random error added to vectors

max <- 0.1
x <- c(c(1:10), c(1:10))+runif(20, min, max)

mailtrain with dovecot antispam plugin
Hello all, and Johannes if you're around,
I was trying to set up the "new" antispam plugin with the mailtrain
backend, and i was trying to use the sendmail binary that's part of a
qmail system. The message wouldn't get sent and i kept getting exit
error 100 from the /var/qmail/bin/sendmail binary. To try to figure out
what was happening, i mean a fake sendmail program,

how does while work
i am having some problems with a program that i am writing and i think that
knowing how the while command works will help me to figure out where i am
going wrong
*when do you get kicked out of a while loop?*
(i.e., in the following example what would the final value of 'a' be?) i
thought it would be 99 but running it in R i get 101 (and 101 for x too!)
while (x <100) {
