Samba Printing
Good Afternoon, We recently added encrypted smb passwords to our site. I just tried to add a printer to samba and it will not work. I tried to connect to \\sambahost\printer and it will not connect. All the older printers still work. I just wonder if there is an extra step I need to perform now when I add printers? Thanks for your time, Bill -- William M. Fennell Network Administrator

NT domain logon questions
Hi. Myself and a anti-Micro$oft companion tried to get NT domain logons working yesterday and seem pretty close, but not quite. Samba is 1.9.18alpha3, server is an Ultra-2 running SunOS 5.5.1. Encrypted passwords seem to be working, a la smbclient and mostly from NT, "mostly" because it *seemed* to be working but we did have some problems with home directories in smbpasswd changing

Multiple servers from single /usr/local
Dear Samba Users, In the past, with Samba 1.9.18p10, I have handled running several Sun SPARC/Solaris server boxes that share the same /usr/local/samba filesystem. I did this by putting different configuration files in /usr/local/samba/lib. For example: smb.conf.host1, smb.conf.host2, etc. But, now with Samba-2.0.0, it didn't seem to work. My initial questions are: 1) There are now files

How to create a huge file system - 3-4TB?
We have a server with about 6x750Gb SATA drives setup on a hardware RAID controller. We created hardware RAID 5 on these 6x750GB HDDs. The effective size after RAID 5 implementation is 3.4TB. This server we want to use it as a data backup server. Here is the problem we are stuck with, when we use fdisk -l, we can see the drive specs and its size as 3.4TB. But when we want to create two different

Intermittent logon failures
Samba 1.9.17p2 running on SPARC 4 Solaris 2.5. Windows 95 clients. For some time now I have been hearing reports of users not being able to logon to the domain--but I've never seen it happen myself, and I never do anything to fix it. It's just this annoying problem that doesn't happen often enough for me to ever see or track down. Today, FINALLY, I tried logging into a machine and

Snom Record / Voice Recorder Button
Hi List, Has anyone got the record button to work on the Snom's? Im looking to have it send a email with a attachemnt of what the user records I hope. It looks like you just point the button to exten@proxy and just have that extension record it. Any clue on how to do this, just use Record() or Voicemail(s1234). Any suggesstions, any luck with this? Linux passwd authentication through NT
Hello, I would like to authenticate Linux' logins by asking a local NT server whether the supplied login id and the corresponding password match. Is there a way to do this ? I.e. is there a PAM module or any other utility that would allow me to do this from a script ? (i.e. a script like $ correct_NT_passwd _supplied_username_ _supplied_passwd_ that would return 0 if they match

Samba over leased line
We have two Class C nets (192.168.1.0/24) and 192.168.2.0/24). These nets are connected through a pair of router (BinTec) via ISDN. The router have a short hold mode, i.e. cancels the line if no packets are to be received or transmitted. Recently we installed one Samba Server in a subnet. In the other subnet are several clients, which print to the samba-server (via the ISDN link). We have not much

AW: Samba across subnets?
If you don't want to type the ip adress of your samba server every time you connect, add a entry to your local hosts file and lmhosts file. You will find this files (and sample files with extension ".sam") in the windows main directory of Win95 and under "system32/drivers/etc" on WinNT 4.0. TRANS.TBL files on Win95 fileserver

Everything works fine, but when I smbmount a CD (burned with xcdroast) from the Linux box (CD is in the Win95 machine) I do not get the proper filenames. All files are uppercase, and the TRANS.TBL files appear to be ignored. I have tried playing with name mangling, but it didn't help. Is this a

Many US companies are very picky about export regulations for such humongous data appetites. The application is mainly A/V or vfx file handling. -- Regards, Rajagopal
