Problems accessing a W95 share
Hi!
I'm trying to use a printer connected to a Win95 box from Linux but when I try
'smbclient -L win95_machine' I get the following message:
SMBnegprot failed. myname=TARKUS destname=WIN95 - ERRSRV - 1311
I'm using samba-1.9.18p5. The access in the other way (W95 to Linux shares)
works without any problems.
When I set the printer as shared in the W95 box it is possible to

scaling SAMBA to handle ResNet students
We are planning to provide a personal network directory for our ResNet
Win95 users using one samba server and I'm wondering whether we are apt to
encounter any issues of scale that might affect us in moving from 100 users
to over 1000.
I can see some problems keeping the Win95 computer identity unique on each
system, but I wonder if there are known limits to the size of a single
workgroup,

duplicated() on zero-column data frames returns empty
I appreciate the compliment from Ivan and still share the puzzlement at the empty return.
What is the policy for changing something that is wrong? There is a trade-off between breaking old code that worked around a problem and breaking new code written by people who make reasonable assumptions. Mathematically, it seems obvious to me that duplicated.matrix(A) should do something like this:

Binding to AD 2016
Hello.
We have a file server running Samba version 3.5.4-0.70.el5 on Red Hat
Enterprise Linux Server release 5.6 that is bound to our AD domain and uses
AD for authentication and file ownership.
Additionally, we have a few other Linux VMs of similar vintage (RedHat 5.x)
that are bound to AD using Winbind (Samba v 3.0, 3.3, 3.5).
Our present AD environment is running at 2003 functional level.

Making DOS Boot Disks for Samba
Thanks to several very helpful souls on this list we have been able to
replace ndis2 NIC drivers and boot successfully in DOS, map a Samba drive
... permitting us to use a DOS Ghost to build lab systems.
The guy who figured this stuff out last year has left the college and I
don't understand what protocols, or clients he used to support a DOS-Samba
connection. (I'ld be lost if I had to

Samba + Clipper problem!
Hi everyone,
Here is the problem:
I have a server running Red Hat 5.2 and Samba-2.0.4 as
file server for
about 20 diskless machines with MSClient boot disks (created with
NT
server SP3). The server shares a dir with a Clipper/DBF database
for
those clients and the EXE file is in a NT machine. For weeks I've
been
trying to put the things together but the clients always break

Migration from 3.5.6-27 to 3.6.16-31
Hello,
I have a debian etch with (samba 3.5.6-27,) shares and windows 7 in the
domain. This works ok.
Since i installed the new version 3.6.16-31 I can not login with domain
users in my windows client and the shares are inaccessible.
I solved the problem with the login, removing the following line in my
smb.conf:
*ldapsam:trusted = yes*
but why this line works with the version 3.5.6-27 and not

PAM_WINBIND problem with sambaPwdMustChange
Hi People!
I use pam_winbind for authentication in my computer workstation using
Debian Lenny 5.0, Stable Version.
I configure my user with this option "sambaPwdMustChange: 0", and I
logon in GDM without asking to change password. Who knows what can be?
I use Samba PDC with Heimdal Kerberos, but, I configure PAM with only
pam_winbind for tests...

Print speed with an HP Laserjet 4
I've also posted this message to the lprng list, but as I'm currently
not sure where the problem lies, I'm posting it here too in the hope
that someone has a clue.....
I have recently installed a printer accounting system on my systems, and
changed the print model for some of my users. In most cases, this has
been fine, but users who are using HP Laserjet 4 printers are

DOS-Client with TCPIP and SAMBA
Hi there,
I have a client in a network using a samba-server that has to use MSDOS, because
some software running on it needs a clean DOS. I installed the DOS-Client for
TCPIP that is available from Microsoft V 1.0 and it works fine; the only thing
is, that it takes so much memory below 640 K, that another program also running
under DOS does not function correctly anymore. Maybe some of the

tools::parseLatex() crashes on "\\verb{}"
Surprisingly this invalid latex syntax is still formatted "right" in the
html output.
On a closer look it seems like roxygen2 introduces those, when using
markdown backtick quoting, if the quoted content is not syntactic. For
instance:
#' `c(c(1)`
#' `c(c(1))`
Will convert the first line to `\verb{c(c(1)}` and the second to
`\code{c(c(1))}`.
I've opened a ticket there FYI:
