Connecting from W95 to Samba Share
Hello group; This is a question that has been posted before, but I haven't found an answer in the archives or in the FAQ/docs. I've been thru the DIAGNOSIS.txt, and get stuck on net view \\machname from a W95 OSR2 box (error 53 ...). Setup: Solaris machine running Samba 2.0.0. I can use smbclient to connect to it from various HP, AIX, Solaris, and Linux boxes, and NT 4.0 clients work

HP LJ6 prints blank page at end of W95 print job
I'm trying to use an HP LJ6 as a network printer on a Samba server (linux). Everything works fine except... whenever a W95 print job finishes, the printer throws a blank page. I've tried everything short of hex dumping the output - I've tried using a minimal printcap entry with no filtering, I've tried using apsfilter... The really odd thing is the binary data itself can't be

W95 and encrypted passwords?
Hi all, I'm trying to play with the "not-yet-officially-supported-PDC-code" in samba-2.0.3 and running into problems with the W95 client I'm using for testing. Since the Samba server is using 'encrypted passwords=yes' my W95 system can't log in, since it's passing plain-text passwords. How do I *enable* encrypted passwords under W95? Is there a quick

W95 and no update from samba shares
Hi, i have a annoying problem that drives me crazy. We have set up a Digital/Unix box with samba and the clients (W95) can mount the shares from this box. On the Unix side we create a textfile which will be periodically (or not) appended with new data. A Application on the W95 side reads this file. The Problem is, that the textfile has new lines, the Application don't see them !!! To

Graphics problem with old W95 game (Panzer General 2)
Hello all, Ubuntu (Dapper) newbie here. I installed Ubuntu two days ago. Also installed Wine. Wine appears somewhat ok. I installed and can run Filezilla. I also have a windows game (Steel Panthers World at War) that installed ok, and appears to play ok, though the movement is a little slow and a little choppy. Anyways, I'm trying to run a W95 game, Panzer General 2. The Wine site says it

W95 speed issue
Hello all, I've got a W95 box connected via crossover to a 2.2.12 RH 6.0 linux box, running 2.0.3 samba. Writes to samba from Win explorer are around 450 K/sec. Reads from samba to Windows using Explorer are around 8 K/sec. Using the smb version of tcpdump, I see between a .200 and .220 second lag between packets. smbd is nowhere near the top of my "top" list output in linux. Is

Blank page after each job from W95
Whenever I send a print job from a W95 client to a raw printer on my Linux box, I get a blank page automatically. When I print directly from Linux this does not occur. I have seen more subscribers mentioning this problem, but never did I see a solution for this. Can somebody help me out? postscript printing on W95 client
Hi there, If the printer is connected to a W95 box the following information may help. 1) read the shell script '/usr/local/samba/smbprint', it provides info on how to setup the configuration files 2) install ghostscript, portable bitmap utils etc 3) install 'Magicfilter', it may need all of '2)' 4) modify the (last) lines in 'smbprint' to something like: (
