WINS servers and browsing
Well, I've asked a couple times already but I will ask one more, since I still havent' managed to get any further. We have several sites. Each site has it's own network and domain. We are connected via a WAN. Is the best practice to have one WINS server for each site? Or is a single WINS server for the WAN the way to go? Right now I have a single WINS server for the WAN. I CAN NOT

Samab Suite not installing properly?
I'm running Redhat 7.0, with Samba 2.0.7, But I'm having problems with it, I'm trying to get the Linux box to be authenticated on the NT network that we're running. Except that I am a little confused, when I installed Samba not all of the components were installed correctly, when I try to run the following executibles it tells me that they don't exist; addtosmbpass, nmbd,

Encrypted passwords really necessary for PDC ?
I've attached a perl script that I wrote to build smbpasswd from /etc/passwd. Please note that this writes a samba-2.0 format smbpasswd file. This script will: # - create accounts that exist in /etc/passwd and not in smbpasswd # - remove accounts that exist in smbpasswd and not in /etc/passwd # - preserve existing password, flags and LCT fields in smbpasswd # - sets new account passwords to

Wide-area browsing & getting the broadcast mask right ??
Hi, I'm running 1.9.18p7 on a Solaris 2.5 box with two interfaces. I have 2 class-C networks that are divided up with a 26-bit netmask (255.255.255.192) into 4 subnets, each. This is what the interfaces look like: le0: flags=863<UP,BROADCAST,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 inet 38.253.161.130 netmask ffffffc0 broadcast 38.253.161.128 ether

Request with Tech support
Hi, We are having a few problems with establishing SAMBA Security measures on Windows NT 4.0. We would really appreciate it if you could help us on this matter. I had recently downloaded SAMBA version 1.9.18p10 for Solaris 7 ( Intel Edition) and it works fine with public access shares. Our setup goes like this.... WIN NT 4.0 workstations are on a LAN, users are authenticated to a Novel 4.0

I am trying to implement HMT for the first time and having a ton of trouble. I would like to be able to have the user check a checkbox and fill some extra fields for data input. I have tried so many iterations borrowed from different places I found on the web, none seem to work quite right. Essentially I have two models: ''practice'' and ''system'' where a

Help! Can browse from one subnet but not another.
I'm having some difficulties setting up browsing across networks and domains and was hoping some of you folks out there could help. We have two domains on two physically separate networks, connected via a firewall/router. To my knowledge the firewall system is not set to block anything between the two segments, just to route them. Network 192.168.18.0, CH domain 192.168.18.14 ch1 (rh7.3, CH

[PATCH 1/4] add scsi-target and IO_CMD_EPOLL_WAIT patches
This includes two kernel patches, scsi-target and IO_CMD_EPOLL_WAIT. The former is a modified version of the scsi target infrastructure in mainline. The latter enables applications to handle AIO and non-AIO fds in the same loop. blktap uses the different patch, AIO event queue patch for the same aim. The IO_CMD_EPOLL_WAIT patch will be merged into mainline (and the AIO event queue will not) so

Matt - thanks for the tip on passwdqc. That is not installed by default on Slackware, but it is in the SlackBuilds repository. I'll install it and check it out. Samba 3.0.5 file share problems
I am starting the process of upgrading from 2.2.8a on Solaris to Samba 3.0.5. I currently have a Solaris 9 server with 2.2.8a set up and I can see my file shares from a Windows XP machine and all works fine. As soon as I install and try to run Samba 3.0.5 I get access denied to that server. So - I went back and started reading and stripped down my smb.conf just to the lines of: [Global]
