help! authentication again
Hi all, When I configure the SAMBA server with password server = PDCNAME security = server I cannot access my shares if I don't have my user ID on the HP-UX box. When I look at the log file, it was trying to connect me to the SAMBA server as "guest" but not as my user ID. It will ask me for the user name and password. When I type in the user name and password it will tell me that

SAMBA Binaries
Hi, Is there a reason that I've been getting "Execute permission denied" errors when I tried to run smbd and nmbd. They are the binaries that I downloaded from SAMBA mirror sites. I was executing as super user and all the file permissions are 755 as well as the smb.conf file currently is 777 in the lib directory. This happens on all of the 1.9.17 rev binaries for HP-UX 10.20. If I

Timing bug patch and x509 question.
First the bug: I've found a timing problem in 2.1.1p1 at the point where the client version string is read, a core dump with a "Did not receive ident string..." error. This problem does not appear to have been mentioned yet in the list archive. This bug was noted on HP-UX 11.0 but could be a problem on other Unices as well. My Q&D fix (patch below) was to spin on EWOULDBLOCK

Winbind on HPUX 11, some small progress
Hi All, Well, i've managed to enable some debugging in syslog, I had to put in /etc/syslog.conf ;*.debug on the syslog line. So at least I have an error which is being returned into syslog from winbind. This is what I get from winbind Feb 4 21:13:17 coastdr pam_winbind[20753]: Verify user `lonnie' Feb 4 21:13:18 coastdr pam_winbind[20753]: user 'lonnie' granted acces Feb 4

2.1.1p2 HP-UX 11 timing error
FYI in order to get 2.1.1p2 to work on my HP-UX 11.0 systems I had to patch atomicio.c for EWOULDBLOCK (HP read() does not give the POSIX return code). The new atomicio() is a clean fix for this timing problem; all it needs now is this one little tweak. Also had the "General Commercial Security" error (PAM_TERM_ERROR from pam_acct_mgmt()) which I have very crudely addressed for now by

Winbind Authentication on HP-UX 11 works
With the help Don McCall and other posts on the samba list we get WINBIND and PAM to work on HP-UX 11.x servers to authenticate with NT domain. If any one wants the documentation or the binaries please e-mail me. The only big question I have is, how can I logon to the HP-UX server without having to specify the DOMAIN+ before the username. We can telnet using DOMAIN+USERNAME, is there a way to

smbstatus connection.tdb not initialised
HI, I recently upgraded from SAMBA 2.0.7 to SAMBA 2.2.2. I downloaded the binaries (from samba.org binary packages) for HP UX 10.20. I am able to map drives and print however when I execute smbstatus (even at the root level) I get connections.tdb not initialised. This file does not exist in the /var/opt/samba/locks directory. I changed my log level to 3 to try to see what is going on but

Antw: SSh 3.1p1
Hi Markus, it has bin tested by me against HP/UX 11.0 in the mode "trusted system" and worked well. Since PAM-authentification is default in 11.00 you must not activate it via the configure switch "--with-pam". If you like I can send you a depot-file and the prndg-package by Lutz Jaenicke as a depot as well because I compiled the ssh with use of it for generating entropie.

Patch for FIPS 140 mode - take 3
Greetings. (Third try at sending this, the first two seemed to disappear without a trace. Perhaps use of MS Outlook was the problem, even though in plain text...? Or attachment too big (22Kb)? Would like to know...) The final source code and documentation package for a FIPS 140 validated mode of OpenSSL was recently submitted. Once the final certification is awarded by NIST, in a month or

ssh not resolving host names on HP-UX 11i
I posted a message about this problem late last week, never heard anything back, so I have to assume other folks did get a working ssh (3.7.1p2) binary built on HP-UX 11i. Just to refresh, my ssh package that I built on HP-UX 11i works fine, except that the ssh binary doesn't seem to go to DNS to resolve host names. So the only way I can ssh to other machines is to put their host entries in

SOLUTION: ssh not resolving host names on HP-UX 11i
Just in case anyone else runs across this problem, maybe someone on this list can pass this along. Install HP Patch PHNE_27796 Patch Description: s700_800 11.11 libnss_dns DNS backend patch The preceding patch (PHNE_23574) was on some of the boxes that exhibited the problem, so 23574 is not enough. If the box showed the problem, it could only be fixed by installing PHNE_27796. Just a bit more

Password authentication
hello: i am fairly new to samba and i read some of the documentation and i have a book on bamba, but somehow i can't figure the following two things out: (i have the precompiled redhat 6.0 version of samba) 1. i simply want to authenticate a user with his/her unix account password. i do not want to use the sama user or password file, since i cannot keep track of the changes. 2. i want to

OpenSSH_3.6.1p2: key authentication on HP-UX.
The address you sent this to is not the appropriate place for general problem reports regarding Portable OpenSSH. Unless you're reporting a security exposure you should use openssh-unix-dev.
