dos?
I have an old dos app that doesn't run in the win95 shell very well.
There are problems with the graphics.
Is it possible to connect to a samba server from real dos? I assume the
answer is no but I thought I would check.

Windows 3.1 and Samba
Has anybody got some experience with connecting machines running Windows3.1
or WfWG (3.11) to Samba? We would like to run a small lab network with
user accounts and a shared printer off the samba box. Samba is running fine
and there's no problem to connect to it from the Win95/WinNT machines...
Any help appreciated.

DOS clients problem with 3.6.22 vs 3.6.18
I have tried to upgrade our samba server from 3.6.18 to 3.6.22 but found
that our DOS clients could no longer connect (using DOS 6.22 and
Microsoft LAN Manager 2.1).
With 3.6.18 we use smb.conf setting 'min protocol = LANMAN2' and it
works great, with 3.6.22 although clients can connect ok, they cannot
obtain a directory listing. Instead the first file (sometimes misnamed)

samba-1.9.17 problem deleting files from DOS
I have just upgraded from 1.9.16p9 to 1.9.17.
Platform: SunOS 4.1.4
In a DOS window under WfW 3.11 I can not delete any files, including ones
created in the same DOS window, unless I wild card them:
fails: del a.txt
works: del a.*
Any ideas gratefully received!

DOS-Client with TCPIP and SAMBA
Hi there,
I have a client in a network using a samba-server that has to use MSDOS, because
some software running on it needs a clean DOS. I installed the DOS-Client for
TCPIP that is available from Microsoft V 1.0 and it works fine; the only thing
is, that it takes so much memory below 640 K, that another program also running
under DOS does not function correctly anymore. Maybe some of the

Linux can't telnet to WFW 3.11
My server is RH 5.2 and i use Samba 1.9.18p10 and the client use WFW 3.11 with

What shares are mounted on client ?
Is there anyway to ascertain what shares a client actually has mounted at a
given time?
I've got a number of WFW boxes connecting shared drives on my SCO-OSE3 box
using SAMBA 1.9.16p5 (upgrading to latest version RSN).
I've got some shell scripts on the Unix box which use escape sequences sent to
the client telnet to start programs on the client side. Some of these programs

Unexpected results with DOS COPY command and Samba 3.0.2
The DOS copy command does not seem to work as expected with Samba. There
are 2 bugs (or issues with our configuration):
1. Copying with a wildcard does not maintain dates (e.g. 'copy
G:\SMBNET\file?.txt G:\SMBNET\OUT\' changes the dates to today on Win98 and
prior)
2. Copying with a wildcard for a single file creates an incomplete file
(e.g. 'copy G:\SMBNET\large?.exe file7.exe'

2.- I managed to install DOS clients from microsoft. That was painfull

The two servers are connected through a 2 MBit VPN link.
When I sync a single large file or a whole directory, rsync only uses
50% of the available bandwidth.
When I do the same between windows and linux server, rsync takes the

Perhaps slightly OT - Lots of spurious webdav requests.
Hello All,
I am running a CentOS 4.6 file server for a small office network and I
am getting a lot of strange webdav requests from one of the Windows
workstations - I have not configured Webdav on the Windows host
(hereafter "windows-laptop") in question.
Some details - I have configured a Samba share called (say) "share1"
on the CentOS server and the windows-laptop connects
