unable to write files bigger than 4GB over NFS
This may not be a CentOS problem, because I'm in a mixed environment. But I put it out in case anybody has any thoughts. I recently replaced a file server, which was on a Pentium III based system running 32-bit CentOS 4.3, with an Opteron based system running Fedora 4. The NFS clients are all CentOS 4.3, some are 32 bit and some are 64 bit. Since the replacement, when I try to write

--/9DWx/yDrRhgMJTb Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Hello everyone, verison: 1.0.1 platform: Gnu/linux mandrake 7.1beta I'm running a user function to step through a frame and plot one column against the next. This crashes the program fairly reliably although not on the first try. Here is a log of the session run through gdb. First I launch R, print out the top of the frame and

Sweave problem with greek text
Dear Sweave and R aficionados, I am using R and Latex for many years, writing texts in greek. I tried to combine them with Sweave, but without any success. Could you provide me with any help? Usually my LaTeX files are like this iso-8859-7 encoded .tex file: http://costis.name/0various/lists/R/sweave/successful.greek.tex , which happily produces

t.test in a loop
Hi All, I've been having a little trouble with creating a loop that will run a a series of t.tests for inspection, Below is the code i've tried, and some checks i've looked at. I've used the get(paste()) idea as i was told previously that the use of the eval should try and be avoided. I've run a single syntax to check that my systax is correct and works without any problems

Why \pipe\MKSPipe ?
I've got Source Integrity installed on our network and at least one person is having a problem checking files in. A tcpdump shows that the client is trying to open \pipe\MKSPipe (MKS is the Source Integrity Manufacturer). SAMBA (of course) replies with: SMBError = ERRSRV - ERRaccess (The requester does not have the necessary access rights within the specified context for the requested

WINS Retention
How does one get rid of machines from the WINS database? They seem to hang around forever....and a restart doesn't solve it because the WINS data just gets passed around... Michael D. Black mblack@csihq.com http://www.csihq.com/ http://www.csihq.com/~mike 321-676-2923, x203 Melbourne FL

Daylight savings
I'm running 2.2.6 When daylight savings time changed this weekend I had to reset all samba sessions as the sessions didn't pick up the time change. Copying file from a Windows client to the server made the filetime off by one hour. Killing all the same sessions (also restarted smbd -- not sure if that was needed) fixed the problem. Michael D. Delete dead browse lists
I've run into this problem a few times now and still haven't figured out how to fix it without shutting down my entire network. We get a lot of guest and transient computers belonging to different workgroups. The gleefully add themselves to the SAMBA domain master and the SAMBA master browse never gets rid of them. Isn't there some sort of timeout or interface where these can be

S or R used in natural language processing (NLP)?
Dear All, Does anyone use S or R for statistical natural language processing (NLP)? All I have found so far is a package called EMU (http://www.shlrc.mq.edu.au/emu/emu-splus.shtml) which is a speech wave-form processing package. What I'm looking for are routines to support text processing, text categorization, word sense disambiguation, text understanding etc. In particular, I would

Perl vs. R
Dear All, I am being told that R can process text files and strings as well as Perl (and is certainly more elegant). Being an R neophyte I need a little boost to get started. I have a little benchmark program in Perl that reads a delimited file, creates an inverted table and spits the file out again in key sorted order. It's just a few lines of Perl (see below). Can someone write the
