WG: parsing fix for spoolss & samba-2.2.5
I can only confirm, that the bug still there (since version 2.2.3). I also
have exactly the same problem. With samba version 2.2.2 was OK.
I will be fantastic, if someone can help to fix it. Thanks!
Best regards

AW: duplex settings [ was Re: parsing fix for spoolss & s amba-2.2.5]
Hi Jerry,
It seems that the "samba-2.2.5-printing.patch" has only fixed the problem
for PCL drivers.
With PS drivers (Laserjet 4050 PS) are the duplex & tray settings still
missing.
Best regards,
Khiem

Windows Policies and Samba 2.0.4b - More information
Hello all,
I wrote yesterday about problems with Windows policies and Samba 2.0.4b
yesterday. Since then, I've had someone ask for a more detailed
explanation, so here it is.
Samba currently provides domain logons for a number Windows 95 and 98
clients (as well as the standard file serving). The domain logon currently
succeeds, a user's username and password is accepted and the client

nmbd strangeness with 2.0.6
Hi all,
I finally upgrded Samba to 2.0.6 last night. After doing so, I have
observed some strange behaviour.
First of all, although domain master, local master and preferred master
are all set to true, the server running samba fails to become the local
master browser on one subnet (succeeds on another subnet though). The
messages from the log file are as follows:

Samba 2.2.5 printing problems
Hi all,
I'm having problems getting SPOOLSS support working correctly. (Samba
2.2.5 on FreeBSD 4.5.)
Often when viewing settings on the shared printers,
I get a wonderful 'illegal operation' error in either explorer.exe or
spoolsvs.exe (many things seem to trigger this error - especially
attempting to select additional drivers).
Secondly, when things don't crash, I am able to

Status of Printer Driver Settings
Hi Jerry,
Just wondering how progress on the printer driver settings problem is
going?
And is there anything that I can do to help out? I'd be happy to lend a
hand.
Thanks in advance

Documentation updates...
Hi all,
Just a couple of suggestions for documentation updates. First of all,
perhaps you should include the following about Windows XP and slow
logons/long delays in opening files:

Supporting different groups on different subnets
I have a query about allowing different user groups access on diffeent
subnets.
We are running Samba 2.04b to serve a number of Windows clients. We have
two different networks (running from two seperate network cards), one for
staff and one for students. Currently, Samba is set up to allow staff to
log in from one network, and students from the other. This is achieved by

unix password sync problems!
I have been trying for hours to get the unix password sync going properly
with Samba 1.9.18p4 running on FreeBSD 2.2.5
I have compiled Samba with the ALLOW_CHANGE_PASSWORD option enabled.
I created the smbpasswd file as ENCRYPTION.txt states, and can set
passwords as root.
However, when a user tries changing their password, it doesn't work.
The error reported is:

AW: duplex settings [ was Re: parsing fix for spoolss & s amba-2.2.5]
Hi,
We are using samba2.2.6pre2 and still have the problem with the printer
duplex/tray settings like in samba2.2.5 (although the duplex/tray options
are configured on samba, they are not correctly set to w2k clients)
Does anybody know why?
Thanks for any tip.

%L substitution...
Quick question for the Samba team,
Just wondering if there is a reason that a %L substitution changes the
WHOLE string after the substitution to lowercase (in standard_sub_basic)?
This was causing me a big headache as I was using a %G later in the
string, and this was being translated into a %g...
Here's the relevant section of code from lib/substitute.c:

parsing fix for spoolss & samba-2.2.5
For those people experiencing Explorer.exe crashes when working with
printers, please try this patch
ftp.samba.org/pub/jerry/patches/post-2.2.5/parse_sec.patch
It was a size vs. alignment bug when marshalling security
descriptors for the PRINTER_INFO_2 structure.
cheers, jerry

problems.
However, I still have the problem that the presence of things such as
additional paper trays/duplex units etc is forgotten by applications (but
is remembered when I go to the printer preferences through printers
share/printers in control panel).

Samba being Unfriendly
Hello all,
I have been running Samba quite happily for at least a month without
any major problems.
However, on the 29/5, Samba suddenly stopped accepting connections.
Rebooting the server didn't help, and I couldn't even get smbclient to
make a connection from the server. The error message reported was
"Server software is being unfriendly", or something very similar.

IPC$ and valid users
I have Samba 2.0.5a running with multiple configuration files for
different groups of users (one config file per group). In the common
config file (which does an include to load the group file) I set valid
users to a one specific group.
In the group config files, I then set valid users to include the necessary
group (and also do other stuff like restricting the interface the
connections can come

Problem saving files from XP to Samba on 2.2.6pre2
Hi team,
I've got a problem with a WinXP client being unable to save a document to
a Samba share. The server is running 2.2.6pre2 (on FreeBSD 4.6).
The XP client hangs for a VERY long time when attempting to save a file
(at least the first file saved - the problem seems to diminish for
subsequent saves/files).
Turning the debug level to 3 produces the following messages (repeated

Thanks for help.... remember this has been working up to now and only a
few users have the password prompt.. (btw "gibb.local" is a trusted
samba3 domain used for migration, connecting as a gibb.local user does work)
getent passwd returns expected results, as does wbinfo -u

"getent passwd" works, "getent passwd username" does not
Domain member server (Debian stretch with 4.8 from the Van Belle repo)
getent passwd| grep nprice
GIBB\nprice:*:1001104:1000513::/home/GIBB/nprice:/bin/false
getent passwd GIBB\\nprice
(returns nothing)
getent passwd 1001104 also returns nothing
wbinfo -u works fine
wbinfo --uid-info 1001104
GIBB\nprice:*:1001104:1000513::/home/GIBB/nprice:/bin/false
wbinfo -i GIBB\\nprice
