Samba file server
I have this situation: I need to share a 30MB application tree with about 400 PCs, this is an entire application tree, and I wan?t all the PCs to run it off one or more application servers. The questions: - Do I need to install more than one samba server? - Is samba the appropiate solution, I?ve heard about something called AFPS or something like that, that has less overhead and is

OpenSSHd barfs upon reauthentication: PAM, Solaris 8
We've been having trouble with OpenSSH 2.9p2, running on Solaris 8 (a domain of an E10k), with PAM authentication turned on. It intermittently crashes with signal 11 (seg fault) after the password is entered, after the MOTD is displayed, but before control is passed over to the login shell. I eventually managed to persuade sshd's child process to consistently crash, upon entry of an

Hi, Has anyone had this problem with Samba? I have been having trouble getting my Samba server to show up in my Network Neighborhood list. It is in the right workgroup, and when I do a search for computer, it is found. Yet, it never shows up in my NN list. Can someone give me some advice on how to make this work? Thanks, Ken

hiding the UNIX system name from Network Neighborhood
Hi, Here's the deal; Currently within our NT domain, Network Neighborhood can see our SAMBA server via both the "netbios" name (set with 'netbios name = vegas' from within the smb.conf file), plus the actual UNIX system name. We want our users to browse our SAMBA server only via the "netbios" name and not the actual UNIX system name. How can I configure

SAMBA/Network Neighborhood problem
Hello SAMBA gurus, I have SAMBA installed on a Linux box behind a Linux firewall. Also running behind the same firewall on the same class C sub-net is a NT 4.0 box. After starting up SMBD/NMBD I could see the remote SAMBA system and the file and printer shares displayed as icons in the NT 4.0 Network Neighborhood Explorer file system. Right clicking and displaying the menu over the highlighted

Empty Network Neighborhood"
Hello. My problem is not samba realted, but I might hope that it can help me to solve it. Our network is about 200 users. Some of them are using windows. But today Network Neighborhood on all computers became empty. I've tried smbtree and its listing is empty too. If I enable -d10 I can see in the last string: "Unable to find master browser by broadcast" The only idea I have,

Hide the samba server on the Network Neighborhood
Hello all, Just a small question that I was unable to find an answer on the samba sites. Is it possible to hide the samba server on the Network Neighborhood? Something like setting the "Hidden"=dword:00000001 on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters] I'm not a member of the list, so if the replies could be sent directly to me it would be

Can't browse network neighborhood after changing network address on server
Hi I'm resending this message in the hope that i can at least find out out if nobody has run across this problem. It is quite a serious problem since we deploy many samba servers frequently. If no one on this list knows the answer(or the answer is obvious) please point me to the appropriate list. I seem to have a recurring problem with browsing the network. I set up a file server in my

Is it possible to map shares via Network Neighborhood?
We're running Samba 2.2.2 over an NT network. Our clients use Win95 (for the time being) and I wondered how we config Samba so they can map the shares using network neighborhood. We can map fine through MS-DOS, but when I try, for example, to map E drive to \\nfssrv\ads share via network neighborhood (where we ARE able to see the shares), it says E: is already connected to . Do you want

Samba DMB "loses" machines in the Network Neighborhood
I have a long running problem with my configuration of Samba as a domain master browser. After nmbd comes up, all the machines on the network are viewable in the Network Neighborhood as they should be. But about half an hour later, Samba seems to lose track of several machines; they no longer appear in NN or /var/cache/samba/browse.dat. I recently upgraded to a packaged version 3.0.20b (for

Can't see clients in network neighborhood
Hi list, Small bug here succesfully setup a samba file server as a domain controller . Thing is I can't see the clients in network neighborhood - only the file server. This seems to also be causing problems for central admin programs, which is a real concern. Can any one shed light on this? Thanks, -- Ismail
