Why only one WINS server?
Hello, Documentation states that one should set up only one Samba server as WINS server. While NT's TCP/IP setup has two entrys, one for a primary and one for a secondary WINS server I wonder why there should be only one Samba WINS server. Has anyone tried this with two Samba WINS servers? Did you suffer from any interferences. I did and the machines are running perfectly smooth. Did I

2.0.5a: smbmount 2.0 missing switch -c
Hi, In 2.0.5(a) is a new version of smbmount, version 2.0, latest before was 1.9 in samba 2.0.4b. The new syntax is smbmount //server/share /mountpoint [smbmount options] instead of the former smbmount //server/share [smbmount options] \ -c 'mount mountpoint [mount options]' Indeed the new version works, but to mount shares from my OS/2 server I need the mount option '-f

2.0.7: inherit permissions = yes breaks setting read-only on files
Hi, While testing the upgrade from 2.0.6 to 2.0.7 I found some kind of misbehaviour of inherit permissions. It was already known that the SGID bit on directories is only useable with "inherit permissions = yes". Most of my shares depend heavily on this (unix) feature. Today I found out I cannot change a file attribute to read-only from NT while "inherit permissions" is set

SAMBA 1.9.18p10 problem
I have been using Samba 1.9.18p8 in a Solaris 2.6 machine for months but suddenly this week there is a problem. Nothing's changed. I have some persistent connection of my NTSP3 client to the samba share. When I login as usual, it fails to mount the drive. It either prompt for password but whatever password the samba rejects, or give a "Access is Denied" when you try to access the

Problems with UNIX file permission
Hello, I need to serve one fileshare to different users in different groups ( I do so ). I gave different users different groups and told samba to make new files owned by user:group, mod 775. But now some users have the need to write in the directory of another group. Is it possible to force user and group per directory and not per share, or is it possible to create links in the filestructure

Which IP adresses are registered when having mutliple interfaces
Hi! I'm running Samba 1.9.18p7 on a machine with two interfaces, so I configured: ; multiple interfaces interfaces =x.y.z.7/255.255.0.0 a.b.c.d/255.255.0.0 ; paranoia setting: to be REALLY sure which host name samba uses as NETBIOS name netbios name = XYZ001 This one has to register with a WINS server on one of the nets, so I configured: ; be a WINS client wins

_real_ browsing problem...
Hi all, we got a very difficult browsing problem here at the college of German Telecom at Dieburg. We have been trying to get browsing working at our student quarters for about three semesters now, re-reading the BROWSING.TXT file for XX times and spending YY hours analysing nmbd's log files. I hope somebody can point us to the right direction or tell us where to find more information about

Cross subnet domain logins
I have two sites, which are seperated by a campus network. Even with the new 'browse fix' release, I cannot convice the win 3.11 machines to do a domain login to the server in the other subnet. A single win95 machine in the subnet does every thing fine, domain login, network neighbourhood, the works. The win 3.11 machines can browse for shares on the remote server and connect fine - they

Two nmbd processes on 2.2.6
Hello, I have downloaded and compiled 2.2.6 to replace my 2.2.6pre. I spent a large part of the day debugging the startup script because it seemed to always be starting two nmbd processes instead of one. Eventually I tried running just /usr/local/samba/bin/nmbd - and still got two nmbd processes. Is this correct behaviour? On the first server (Dell 4600) I thought it might be because it has

show queue ... Invalid
Hi! I've added member to a queue like this, from queues.conf: member => SIP/1070@peername It works OK. But, after restaring I see in show queue that Members: SIP/1070@peername (Invalid) ... What does it mean? Why is it Invalid? BTW, reload command fixes it, so the member receives queue calls. Thanks! PS. 1.2.9.1 -- DSS5-RIPE DSS-RIPN 2:550/5068@fidonet 2:550/5069@fidonet
