netbios-ns address already in use?
I was just browsing through my logs and noticed this many times: Dec 2 14:00:37 barney inetd[3021]: netbios-ns/udp: bind: Address already in use netbios-ns should run on port 137/udp right? This is the samba nmbd server, right? When I do a ps -fe |grep nmbd I see this: root 708 1 0.0 Nov 26 ?? 3:52.39 nmbd -n Alpha_1000 root 709 708 0.0 Nov 26 ??

wins: no nmblookup on 192.168.1.255 but 192.168.1.2
Hi, here is a client computer and a server computer (Debian Wheezy, armel, samba Version 3.6.6, IP address: 192.168.1.2, Name: xyz). Problem: wins doesn't answer nmblookups by the client on the broadcast address: client$ nmblookup -S xyz querying xyz on 192.168.1.255 name_query failed to find name xyz Why is that so? How to fix this? When I specify the the server IP I do get an answer:

WINS question
Morning everyone. Just have a quick question regarding WINS on samba-3.0.3. Running FreeBSD 4.9, with samba-3.0.3 built from the ports tree. The only thing I needed from this particular server at this time, was it to function as a WINS server for our company. I went ahead and did the basics, as setting the netbios name as well as saying 'yes' to wins support. However, I cannot tell if

Trust relationship failed...
I'm hoping someone can give me a hand in figuring out this problem, I have seen several other similar problems in searching, but nothing that exactly matches what I am seeing here. I have recently migrated a client from a Samba server running 2.2.7 (Redhat 9) to 3.0.2 (Fedora 1). The samba installation is running as a PDC for 5 Win XP workstations and was working perfectly prior to the

My Network Places not finding Samba server
I assume I am doing(or not) something extremely simple that is causing my XP boxes to not see my linux(FC4) Samba server in the 'My Network Places'. I can access the shares by 'Map Network Drive' and using the IP address(192.168.0.1). I have set the workgroup name 'DAMEN' in the lmhosts file. 192.168.0.1 DAMEN I have set the workgroup in the smb.conf file.

Printer Pool
Is there a way in samba to create a printer pool like you can do with NT? I have two HP Network Printers (4000N) which I can setup and print to from Win95, no problem. But I want to make the most "efficient" use of the printers, as they are in a lab, sitting right next to each other... Thanks... === Tim --------------------------------------------------------------------- | Tim

Strange samba problem with Win XP
Hello list, I don't know what is breaking my samba box but I am really very worried and confused !! My samba server has no problem with linux client. "smbclient -L <samba IP> -U <samba user>" runs well. No problem at all. But whenever I try to access the shares from Win-XP it reports that "path not found". And after repeatedly trying the same Win-XP

SUMMARY: netbios-ns address already in use?
My original message follows... Well, it would seem that my problem was that nmbd was somehow running as a daemon. Looking at the process IDs the first nmbd had a parent process of 1, not as the ID of inetd. I don't know HOW that happened, the only place nmbd is referenced is inetd.conf. I killed the main nmbd process, sent a HUP signal to inetd, nmbd started again and I haven't had a

Inject DOMAIN into nmbd?
My NT WINS server has died. I am in the process of reinstalling it, but it needs to join a domain in a remote location. However, since it was the WINS server, it can't find the remote domain to join so I can't reinstall it. Aaarg! So, I would like to forget about the whole NT WINS thing and make Samba my WINS server. I have added the "WINS Support= yes" to my smb.conf and

username map problem
Hi, I am running version 1.9.18p8 on Solaris 2.6 connecting to NT 4.0 sp3. When I am logged in as administrator I can't connect to any samba share. My username map contains just "root = Administrator" and my smb.conf file has the following entries: password level = 2 security = server encrypt passwords = yes password server = ntsrv002 ntsrv003 username map =

Can someone explain how samba handles permissions?
Can someone explain the following behavior. I don't understand windows permissions very well, so I'm not sure if the following is a problem or considered normal. I have a directory called sigmaproj on my samba server; ls -la gives the following information: 14 drwxrwxrwx 31 bkelly users 6656 Sep 17 16:12 sigmaproj in this directory is a file: 2 -rw-r--r-- 1 dvorak users

WINS isn't working correctly and I think somebody is trying to exploit a security hole...
Pardon the long log file but I'm fairly new to WINS servers and probably don't know what I'm doing. We've have two subnets (lets call them xxx.xxx.xxx.??? and yyy.yyy.yyy.??) I have one samba/linux server on both networks xxx.xxx.xxx.2 and yyy.yyy.yyy.2. xxx.xxx.xxx.2 is set up to be a domain master and yyy.yyy.yyy.2 is setup to be a local master with xxx.xxx.xxx.2 as its master.

[LLVMdev] Relocation and symbol types
Hi everyone, I have questions about relocations. - "normal" relocation (current global mapping of the JIT ?) needs to be patch in code and relatively to the address of the code. - .LJTI are emitted because of a "switch"-like construct : this is the jumping table, the address of this table (in "data" section) needs to be patch in code section. - .LBB are emitted

interacts with the telnet/rlogin server on AIX. The previous entries about this only starting at ML03 and above seem to be correct. The bug is not triggered in earlier versions of AIX. Unfortunately, I have been unable to create a test case program that causes the hang to occur. However, a simple hack to channels.c does seem to fix the problem: --- channels.c.orig Tue Jul 2 14:34:32 2002 +++
