Need a little kick start to compile appletalk module
RHEL 4 (and thus CentOS 4) do not have appletalk module included.
CentOSPlus rather thoughtfully has the 'unsupported' version which would
have the appletalk module but I have been unable to get the old megaraid
driver to run compiled from the kernel-devel for these 'unsupported'
kernels.
Thus I would love to simply compile the appletalk module myself from the
standard

[heads up] axing AppleTalk and IPX/SPX
Hello!
[Cc to stable@, for wider audience]
The plan is two axe two old networking protocols from FreeBSD head/,
meaning that FreeBSD 11.0-RELEASE, available in couple of years would
be shipped without them.
1) AppleTalk
Last time claimed to be supported by vendor in 2007[1]. In practice
had very little use since 90th.
Discontinued by major routing equipment vendors since 2009[2].

Is the unsupported kernel considered stable-ish?
I have a need to use the unsupported kernel for one feature only
(AFP/Appletalk support). Never having had to use it before, I''m unsure
of what''s all in it other than reading it''s config file.
From those that do use it -- is it considered stable enough to use in
lightweight production? I''m debating the use of it versus wasting my
time rebuilding the normal

Kolmogorov-Smirnov-Test on binned data, I guess gumbel-distributed data
Hi R-Users,
I read some texts related to KS-tests. Most of those authors stated, that
KS-Tests are not suitable for binned data, but some of them refer to 'other'
authors who are claiming that KS-Tests are okay for binned data.
I searched for sources and can't find examples which approve that it is okay
to use KS-Tests for binned data - do you have any links to articles or

Samba And Macintosh(netatalk)
Hello,
Anyone out there running a production network supporting PC and Macintosh
clients using samba and netatalk. we are currently using NT 4.0 with
AppleTalk-IP software. Sharing the same files with the Macs and the pc is
a must.
I read someplace that samba 2.2.2 supports Appletalk. Is this true?
Thanks,
Joe

terribly naive question
Dear R-Representative:
I am very new to R and I have to admit that I am not the cleverest of
users. So, please bear with me. I have installed R on my Mac OS 8.6.
I am interested in eventually using the packages -- many useful ones
have been downloaded with the basic R software. I have looked through
some of the manuals, however, I have not yet found how to access the
commands in these packages.

Dear Samba and Netatalk experts,
I've got a server running both samba 2.2.3a as PDC and netatalk (1.5pre7
as supplied by SuSE73). Samba machine accounts are added to /etc/passwd
automatically by the command
add user script = /usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -g 90 -s /bin/false -M %u

unsupported modules on CentOS 4
I know that appletalk module is not included in RHEL 4 and therefore not
included in CentOS 4.
RHEL 3/CentOS 3 had them in kernel-[smp-]unsupported
Is there a way to get the module loaded in CentOS 4.1 or do I have to
compile a kernel from source?
Thanks

Is there a python binding, or any other script binding, that has access to individual instructions?
There is llvmlite http://llvmlite.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ , but it
doesn't seem to support reading individual instructions, based on these
docs.
I was thinking to make a simple code analysis tool to, for example, find
all system calls that have unchecked return codes, but I can't find a
binding for any scripting language. And I am averse to writing this in C++.
Thanks,
Yuri

WiFi SIP phone w/VPN?
Hi, all. My subject line says it all: is there a WiFi SIP phone with VPN
abilities? Failing that, a WiFi phone that runs Linux? I already know
one phone that does meet my requirements -- the iPhone. The new software
comes with a Cisco VPN client, and a SIP client can be had from
third-party vendors for jailbroken phones. And, while I'm not averse to
the idea,
a) it ain't cheap, and

[fdo] Request to host project "OpenSync" a synchronization framework
Hi
i am Armin Bauer, one of the developers of Multisync, an application to
sync various pdas, cellulars and other programs (see www.multisync.org
for further information)
We recently ran into design limitations with our current version, which
was where we decided to develop a new major version of Multisync. I
started working on the new design but quickly noticed to there are a lot

rsync anti-FUD
I'm working on a commercial project that would benefit immensely from
the use of rsync. However, I cannot convince management that rsync is a
worthy tool due to the rote "it's shareware, it's not supported" FUD.
Are there any documented, corportate users of rsync? Testimonials? In
short, how do I drag this risk-averse group out of the FTP age into the
rsync present?

scp problem (openssh-2.9p2)
Hello all,
scp does not preserve links (neither soft neither hard)
It is a problem with recursive option (-r) when you met some links like
Openssh -> .
In 2.3.0p1 it failled because of too long argument.
Also I upgrade (my client an HPUX-11.0 and my server an redhat-6,2 x86)
openssh to the last release 2.9p2.
But this release create in a loop (i presume until fs full) subdirectories

Wrong object type produced - LANGSXP should be LISTSXP (PR#7055)
Full_Name: David Bauer
Version: 1.9
OS: Linux
Submission from: (NULL) (160.91.245.8)
In the file gram.y, the xxsubscript function generates a LANGSXP with another
LANGSXP as its CDR. I believe that this is a mistake and that the second
LANGSXP should be a LISTSXP. The inputs a1, a3 are parameters to the subscript
function (a2), and as such they should be in a dotted-pair list.
