Problems with "invalid user" and file sharing
Im having some issues with Samba that I'm not sure where to go from, and
have not been able to figure it out. Im converting a Windows NT machine to
a Linux machine for file sharing.
Ive been able to get printer sharing working properly, as well as public
directories/files which is great.
Im using Samba-2.0.5a (will upgrade to 2.0.6 shortly) and am having issues
with the following:

Hi ,
FQDN of the DC is Hostname.DomainName .
In smb.conf:
netbios name = <HostName>
realm = <DomainName> eg: (ww.xx.yy.zz)
workgroup = ww
In resolve.conf
domain <DomainName>
nameserver <IP Address of the DC i.e host IP>
# host -t SRV _ldap._tcp.<DomainName>.
_ldap._tcp.<DomainName> has SRV record 0 100 389 <HostName>.<DomainName>.

Some users need to re-authenticate themselves
Some of my users have to type in their password when their
shares are mounted, or when they want to print. Some of
them simply login at boot time and are covered for the
entire session. The version I am running is Version
1.9.18p8. The OS I am using is Solaris 2.6, on a Sun
Ultra. Here is the info that I think is relevant:

smbpasswd does not work for normal users in 1.9.18p4
Hi everyone,
It seems to me that smbpasswd does not work for normal users in Samba
version 1.9.18p4. If I invoke it as root, then there is no problem with it,
but if I invoke it as a normal user, then I get the following:
$ smbpasswd -D 99
Old SMB password:
New SMB password:

Fairly sure I have said this already, but if I haven't, I will say it
now:
Do not use kinit to get the machines kerberos ticket, winbind has

lock request at offset?
I was trying to copy swf file (35MB) from a windows machine to my
samba share. It told me
"There is not enough disk space". However, it lets me copy it in
another share. I didn't notice anything different with the share I am
having problem with. I noticed the following messages in the log:

Samba, Kerberos, Autofs: Shares get disconnected
Hi Rowland
yes sure I know who user '0' is ;-)
so where should the ticket be then?
I just rebooted the PC and logged in via SSH as root. There is no ticket
for the machine :-(
even though, the Active Directory join seems to be OK, as "net ads
testjoin" says so.
I am still a bit lost on how I should proceed.
To have this all working more or less, I just mounted the shares with

we have a big problem on joining a Samba 3.5.6 PDC.

Help with ADS authentication and Samba
Hi there, just recently joined this list as I seem to be having a little trouble that I am hoping someone can help with.
I recently installed a RHEL5.5 server and updated samba to samba3-3.4.11-42.el5.x86_64.rpm. I had never set up samba to authenticate with ADS so I read a little bit and dove right in. The server now works fine, so when I browse to \\machinename<file:///\\machinename> no

Creating maching trust accounts
Hello,
I have created a machine trust account with the following command
'pdbedit -a -m -u machinename' and I noticed that after I execute the
following command 'pdbedit -L -v -u machinename', the Unix username is
in lowercase letters? Because when I attempt to join a domain with a
Windows 8.1 machine, it emits a error that it can't find the Machine
account? Does it

This problem was already described on a very similar way in Oct 2004
on the following message:

As no solution was found so far, I am re-posting it on the hope that
somebody can help.
