win95, dialup networking, wins
Thats exactly what I have !
I have 2 interfaces, the dialup networking and an ethernet card installed.
I tried everything to get it to work on a per-connection basis, but it
just does not go. The ONLY way I got it to work was setting the wins
server in the main config and setting the dns in each of the dial-ups.
Its really weird that I can define dns on a per-connection basis but not
wins !?!

I have tried that, and that just forced the default comment of:

However, I am setting up a second Samba server and want it to
join the domain so I can use "security = domain". Lets call
the PDC samba1 and the new samba client samba2. ON samba 1, I did:
useradd -c 'Samba2 SAMBA' -d /dev/null -M -g 202 -s /bin/false -u 1503 samba2\$
passwd -l samba2\$
smbpasswd -a -m samba2\$
to create the trust account.

win95 ppp connection to samba- password again
thanks to the samba crew- we have converted several netware and nt user
servers into one seam-less Unix network, except for one group, netware dialup
users.
ok, win95 client, ppp to linux server. using newest pppd, with correct ms-wins
and ms-dns code. client can dial, gets wins server ips, etc. the client
functions fine with tcp-ip stuff. the ppp server is the wins server.

Two samba 2.0.7, one dialup line and excessive connects ...
Hi everybody.
I have to admin two offices, about 500 km apart. Because we're in
Germany and dedicated lines (and even VPN ones over the internet) are
very heavy in cost, we use a dialup ISDN connection. That is online
almost 8 hours a day, but still cheaper.
Now the remote office said that their e-mail was too slow and I
installed a second samba server for them, being a logon master so

Two machines, lets call them server1 and server2 share the same disk with

their OS installations. The two physical servers have two gigabit nics
each and on those nics I place four virtual IP addresses which heartbeat

Designate one samba server for home directories
Hello all,
I have a few samba servers running winbind that are joined to the AD 2003
domain.
Is it possible to designate one samba server to host the users' home
directories instead of each one of them?
If we have samba1, samba2, and samba3 and designate samba1 to host the home
directories and when a user accesses samba 2 either via ssh or as a share,
the home directory that the user sees

Trusted domains, one-domain users and ACL's modifications
Hi, currently I have the following Samba 3.0.2rc2 setup:

Samba1 and Samba2 are PDC's, there is one domain for each network. I'm trying
to configure a symmetric trust relationship between them. Both Samba servers
have "wins support = yes", and I added the other server/domain to their

2 WINS Servers and WINS FORWARDING

I have a special L2 VPN connected samba deployment setup and I want to
make sure the name resolution arrangement is the best for the network.
Setup : network 1 + Samba1<<SAME IP range>> <L2 VPN> network2 <<SAME IP

I have noticed that the wins server and wins support options are
non-inclusive.

Fw: Re: Made a join with a netbios name, which already existed, now replication errors
Hello,
now with "ldbsearch --cross-ncs ..." I dont find entries of domain controllers anymore except samba1 and samba2.
sam.ldb seems to be clean now.
But with the DNS-Tool from Windows I can see a lot of entries for samba3, all of them for services like _gc, _kerberos, _ldap, _kpasswd.
Can this be the reason for the error I get when I join samba5 ? Do I have to delete this entries ?
