problems with samba 1.9.18p8
I recently installed samba 1.9.18p8. Since then, we get the following error: "No domain server was available to validate your password. You may not be able to gain access to some network resources." after the server has been running for >48 hours. If I stop and restart the server, everything is ok again. Our samba server is a Sun Ultra 2170 running Solaris 2.5.1. Any help will

help migrating from file server to NAS w/ Active Directory
hello, I'm having a problem I hope will be easy for someone to explain to me how to fix. I need to migrate from an old server to a new Cisco Smart Storage NAS, which runs some flavor of linux and is Active Directory aware. Using something like Robocopy from the AD server, or rsync or tar from the file server does not preserve user/group identities or directory date stamps (maybe rsync

linux groups & NT global groups with winbindd
I posed this question earlier but it was with another question and I think it got lost. I have winbindd up and running and working great. If I add NT domain users to an NT domain global group, add that group to a local linux group in /etc/group, and then assign that local linux group ownership of an object (file or dir) should this work? In other words, can you still use local linux groups as

one opinion about searching samba docs for answers
It sure is hard to find info in the documentation/mailing list for a specific error. If an error log message was created by smbd, nmbd, or winbind, shouldn't the documentation contain a description, cause, and possible solution? Specific case in point: [2005/08/05 11:31:22, 0] nmbd/nmbd_browsesync.c:domain_master_node_status_fail(250) domain_master_node_status_fail:

Upgrading a ctdb cluster: samba not listening on TCP port 445
Hi all, I try to update two clustered samba file servers. Right now samba 4.7.0 with ctdb is running on both of them. To update samba I stopped ctdb on one of the servers, and compiled and installed samba 4.7.1 with: ./configure --with-cluster-support --with-shared-modules=idmap_tdb2,idmap_ad,vfs_glusterfs --with-systemd Trying to start ctdb on the updated server fails with "

Problem with network browsing
I'm trying to diagnose why my windows 10 clients can't do network browsing. The network neighborhood doesn't show any of my machines running samba. I've verified that all of my samba hosts are running nmbd! I've reached the end of my ability to debug this, so I could really use some help from the list to figure out why this isn't working. I've isolated the situation

Trouble authenticating to Samba shares with Win 2k3 ADS
I may have a deficiency in understanding the procedure for ADS authentication with samba, but most of the server setup works so far. I have bound a Red Hat Enterprise 5 server to our windows domain, it shows up in DNS and ADS, I can ping it, but I can't get samba shares to be accessible to users, or even get the smbclient to return shares properly. wbinfo -g returns the domain groups
