SCO lan manager
We have a linux pc (slackware 4.0, samba 2.0.5) acting as a gateway between two subnet of our office. On my side of the net I have a mixed win95/NT/Samba network, and on the other side we have some sco unix servers, running an old lan-manager, os/2 like. Gateway linux is a master browser, that enable us to see the other subnet, but... I can't see the record for the sco-server in

compare / contrast of linux fw and others
Hi, I was wondering how a linux box configured as a firewall stacked up against some of the commercial products like checkpoint-1 and gauntlet. Can someone direct me to a good book or online doc that compares linux to some other firewall methods? Mind you, I''m not talking about a firewall in the classical sense, ie ip forwarding turned off and used as a proxy, but the typical Linux box

Unwanted browse lists
Michel, One approach that hasn't been suggested is to block access to the netbios nameservice port on the samba host with a firewalling rule. That way the other computers on the subnet can't register themselves with nmbd. Suppose that your internal network is all within the 192.168.15.0/24 network. Each Windows workstation will automatically announce itself with a udp packet broadcast

W95 and no update from samba shares
Hi, i have a annoying problem that drives me crazy. We have set up a Digital/Unix box with samba and the clients (W95) can mount the shares from this box. On the Unix side we create a textfile which will be periodically (or not) appended with new data. A Application on the W95 side reads this file. The Problem is, that the textfile has new lines, the Application don't see them !!! To

IAX crackilng
I apologize about doubling these up, I forgot the subject! I have a cisco VPN from router to router over a Data T-1. The ping times are consistently 32ms with random ping responses of 295ms -408ms about every 30 secs to a minute, I have jitter buffer enabled. The connection goes like this... Mitel SIP phone to Asterisk A, IAX trunked to Asterisk B and then T-1 to a PBX, the calls are internal

How to set Netscape enviroment on Samba home drive ?
> Does anybody know if it is possible to configure Netscape in such a way > that ALL netscape preferences and options (most important is email > address) will be saved on samba home ? You get this kind of stuff by default with roaming profiles.( ie user.dat or ntuser.dat ) If you are referring to netscape 4 then just point the profile to the home directory (mapped to a consistent drive

Logon script
Hello, I am having a little problem with executing logon scripts on Win95 clients, logging into Samba Netlogon service. When a user logges in, a MS-DOS prompt shows up and quicky disappears. Then I get "Please Wait While your logon script executes". It hangs at that point. A user has to hit cancel to start his win95 session. I have done the logon script in MS-DOS editor. I have the

socket options
Do the socket options still work with versions of samba above 1.9.16p10? I get error messages both on the command line and in the smb.log file that say: Unknown socket option IPTOS_LOWDELAY Unknown socket option TCP_NODELAY Here is my smb.conf Global parameter entry: socket options = IPTOS_LOWDELAY TCP_NODELAY Do these have to be compiled into the Samba program? If these are outdated

policies
Hi, I have set up samba to enable Domain-Logons for windows95/98. I am using Samba-1.9.18p7. I have a share netlogon with a batchfile for connection network drives. Everything is working. But when I create a policies file and put it onto the netlogon share windows doesn't use it. I have named it config.pol. Is there another special thing to configure? I have found archives of this

I guess my CentOS is screwed up because that function doesn't work. Only way to resize it was to go into the menu areas and set it there. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Printer banner always 'nobody'
I've had this problem as long as I've been using samba: every time anyone prints from a PC they get a banner page labeling them 'nobody.' Now, I realize this has to do with the guest account being 'nobody,' and the server is passing that name to the printer. It can get very frustrating, though, when lots of folks use the same printer and all of the jobs have the same name

NMBD unresponsive
Hi there, I have found a problem with my Samba server 3.0.28. This problem appeared suddenly without any changes in configuration or server update. NMBD becomes unresponsive in some minutes after startup with these options enabled: name resolve order = wins lmhosts hosts wins server = 172.25.8.86 172.25.8.84 Unresponsive means that it is not possible to connect to server, nmbd eats full

Ethernet card addr <-> IP
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hi everyone - Someone I''m working with has a requirement to map ethernet card addresses to unique IP addresses, and then have a Linux IP masquerade server know of this mapping list and not allow any data to pass from any ethernet card that a) it doesn''t know about, or b) isn''t assigned the right IP. Ideally it would also log this

printing from Unix to SMB printer
Hi, When defining a queue for lpd using a SMB (Win95) printer, it uses a ".config" file that store a username and password for printing on the SMB server. Is there a way (as anybody tried and how to) to configure the lpd so the username and password used to print on the SMB server are the unix login and password of the user printing (password databases are synchronized), so the job on
