File lock
I am failing to lock a database file on a unix server (Solaris486) when the file lock request is sent from Visual Foxpro on Windows 95. Any suggestions on testing procedures, or even a solution?? Please feel free to assume that I don't know anything about file locks! I don't even know how Visual Foxpro attempts to lock a file. Would the Foxpro lock be recognised by any application?

Compilation errors when installing gee
Hi, I am trying to install gee on our server but I get the error below. I do not have root on this machine so no control on how R was installed itself. NT - Not allowed from this workstation
I am the sysadmin in an office with an overabundance of Win95 machines and a few NT 4.0 workstations. All installs went relatively easy for logon scripts, wins, etc. I have run into a semi-serious problem with 2 of the 3 NT workstations. (All running the same service pack - 1). When trying to make a share from one of the 2 remaining workstations, I will recevie an error message saying that:

Self heal problem
Hi, I have a glusterfs volume replicated on three nodes. I am planing to use the volume as storage for vMware ESXi machines using NFS. The reason for using tree nodes is to be able to configure Quorum and avoid split-brains. However, during my initial testing when intentionally and gracefully restart the node "ned", a split-brain/self-heal error occurred. The log on "todd"

defunct smbd processes on SGI
Hello We are running samba on SGI/SUN/HP fileservers. We saw a problem on the SGI fileservers. After a while a lot of defunct smbd deamons were hanging and occupying the slots in the process table. We saw the problem with IRIX 5.2 and samba 1.9.16p11 and IRIX 6.2 and samba 1.9.17.p4 . Has anybody seen this problem before? This is a serious problem, because the smbd daemons are filling the

R thread safe
Dear R-dev, I would like to accelerate my R computation by using parallel OpenMP compilers (e.g from Pathscale) on a 2-processor AMD server and I would like to know whether R is a tread safe library. The main kernel of the OpenMP parallelization is a C SEXP function that performs the computational routine in parallel with: ******************* SEXP example(SEXP list, SEXP expr, SEXP rho) {

ALTREP wrappers and factors
Hello, I?m experimenting with ALTREP and was wondering if there is a preferred way to create an ALTREP wrapper vector without using .Internal(wrap_meta(?)), which R CMD check doesn?t like since it uses an .Internal() function. I was trying to create a factor that used an ALTREP integer, but attempting to set the class and levels attributes always ended up duplicating and materializing the

Time-measurement in milliseconds
Hi there I'm loking for a time-measurement to measure time-differences in milliseconds. On my search, I only found the following: - package "base": Sys.time() -> only second-accuracy - package "R.utils": System$currentTimeMillis() -> returns integer of milliseconds, but accuracy is only whole seconds too. At the moment I run every bit of code to measure

SWAT modification....?
Hi, I would like to suggest a modification to the SWAT web gui. I have been successfully using Samba for a few years now at my institution and it is a great product. We use it here to handle all of our file serving for around 11,000 users. We have 3 Sun E450's serving up to a 1000 clients each at any one time with no problems. That's the background, here is my request. In the SWAT gui

identical on closures
I'm confused by this: > identical(function() {}, function() {}) [1] FALSE Yet, after loading the Matrix package (which redefines det), the following is checked (in library.checkConflicts): > identical(get("det", baseenv()), get("det", asNamespace("Matrix")), ignore.environment=T) [1] TRUE I've looked at the code in identical.c and for closures it

Files Updates
Hi, I have an Informix program that unload data to a file in a samba directory. Problem is although the file has changed, I still see the old data from my Windows 98 SE PC. I only see the updated data after refreshing the snmba directory numerous times. Sometimes I have to wait for more that 10 minutes !! Funny thing is this problem does not apply to my friend's PC. Why is this so and

Samba scaling
Andrew, Did anyone reply to you on this? By the sounds of things you are running a pair of E450's? We currently use Samba on about 6 or 7 Sun E450's and E250's, it scales very well. I have managed to have about 700-800 current clients connected from Windows 95 and 98, we also have the about 30-40 NT clients that connect regularly. I have found that Samba has scaled uniformly in

ALTREP wrappers and factors
Hi Jiefei and Kylie, Great to see people engaging with the ALTREP framework and identifying places we may need more tooling. Comments inline. Is it safe to delete ferret-write.lck if it is stale?
I''m noticing that ferret-write.lck sometimes stays in my index directory and throws exceptions whenever someone tries to do a search. Apparently there are some cases where ferret doesn''t realize that the file is old and can be deleted. I''m wondering what the best way to recover from this error is. Am I safe just writing a cron job that deletes this file if it is over

Get memory address of an R data frame
Hello, I would like for my C function to be able to manipulate some values stored in an R data frame. To achieve this, a need the (real) memory address where the R data frame stores its data (hopefully in a contiguous way). Then, from R, I call the C function and passing this memory address as a parameter. The question: how can we get the memory address of the R data frame? Thank you! L.

No automatic refresh?
Hi! I've been struggling with this install of Samba 2.0.4b on Linux/x86 2.0.36. All of the client machines run Windows NT 4, SP 3. I'm exporting /tmp as pub, and if I right click in the folder and create a new folder, it doesn't show up until I go to 'view' and 'refresh'. If I delete something, it doesn't go away until I refresh. Why? Output of testparm:
