changing group ownership of files
We are testing samba and are not sure if it is possible to change the group ownership on a file from the NT permissions dialog. The permissions box shows 3 ACL's, one for UNIX owner/group/other. However, we can't seem to change the group ACL to a different group. Removing the group ACL and Adding a new group ACL for a different group does not work. Is the group ownership only

WAN setup over frame relay 7 locations
Hi - I have shorewall-1.3.8-1 on a RH 7.3 machine that acts as a firewall for my network. It was running the other day just fine, but today I have problems getting to the firewall. It is a frame-relay network with Cisco routers. Everything is 192.168.x.x / 24. I can''t ping the firewall from the WAN, but can from the main LAN. Sounds like a routing issue to me, but it was working for

Problems getting scanner to work from xsane (from Gnome Menu or GIMP)
We have a networked HP OfficeJet All-In-One. I have the scanner working with the CentOS 5.3, except xsane is ignoring SANE_DEFAULT_DEVICE. scanimage does however take this environment variable just fine: server1.wendellfreelibrary.org% scanimage -L No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different, check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the

openssh 3.7.1p2 linux port problem
Hello, after upgrading my redhat 8.0 notebook to openssh3.7.1p2 linux port I now could not login/scp into it (as root or myself). /var/log/messages said the authentication was successful, then the connection closed immediately. I was using the default sshd_config that comes from the installation (via rpmbuild from the srpms file under the portable directory). (The client connection was initiated

fallback password mechanism ?
hi, we are running a server in a mixed environment, where encrypted (98/NT) and non-encrypted passwords (95) are used. I've now configured smbd to use encrypted passwords ("encrypt password" in smbd.conf) and was relieved to see that non-encrypted passwords work, too. however, at the server side (linux2.0.35, smb-1.9.18p10), one has to add all users in the samba-password file.

Browsing on remote subnets, domain logons

Can I make all subnets and all computers to see all computers on all subnets without using WINS? So A should see SS, B and C. Because between MS and SS is very long network

Limit on name size for cloned home directories?
hello, I'm running Samba 2.2.5 and we recently went through a user login format change. We have the "security = user" option and when the home directories are cloned with the username (firstname.lastname), only those users with less than 12 characters in their login are able to click on their user named folder. The temporary work around is to have long-named users click on the

FireWall Effects on Samba (Newbie)
Dear List, I have been wrestling with getting Samba 2.2.5 on Redhat 7.1 working on a Windows NT network containing W2K, W98 and Mac machines. I can see the Samba server (gargoyle) from the Win machines fine, but cannot browse any shares (Network unreachable error message). This seems a relatively common problem, but seems harder to resovle in my case :-) I have walked through the toubleshooting

wins hook handling only own names
Hi all, It might be an easy problem, but I haven't found anything in the docs... I have a Samba3 PDC. I have wins hook set to a DNS update script. The script works fine, I tested it. My problem is that according to the scripts logging, samba only calls it for its own refresh. It only sends lines like this every 20 minutes: refresh SAMBA 20 259200 192.168.1.253 No client updates reach

arp corrupted
Hi, I've been trying to get a couple of routers up after h/w failure. The border router is an OpenBSD firewall running NAT between the Internet and a DMZ like subnet, and in that a Linux antivirus server is running NAT to the LAN. When the client does a DNS query it reaches to the f/w where dns is running and is returned into the A/V server but never hits the 0.254 interface. (Shown by

Hello, I've been trying to get bridging working on os x for about a week and haven't been able to do it. I've exhausted the examples and google and just can't get it to work. Any help would be appreciated, as I'm about to give up :( The goal is to join our two 192.168.1.x networks and share a large 192.168.1.x network between the two of us. Our setup is as follows:

Samba 2.2.0. & Vista Business Edition
I'm trying to get a new Vista Business client to connect a newly created Samba server. Windows XP clients connect without issue. I have tried changing 'Network Security: Lan Manager Authentication Level' to 'Send LM & NTLM use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated', as suggested on other sites, but to no avail. We have a domain, but both the Samba server & the Vista

More failover issues
In 1.6.0, when creating a MDT, you could specify multiple --mgsnode options and it would failover between them. 1.6.3 only seems to take the last one and --mgsnode=192.168.1.252 at o2ib:192.168.1.253 at o2ib doesn''t seem to failover to the other node. Any ideas how to get around this? Robert Robert LeBlanc College of Life Sciences Computer Support Brigham Young University leblanc at
