Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility - mini-pci wireless card 1390
Is there any way I can find a driver and/or get the above wireless card
working in CentOS 5 on my Dell laptop (Inspiron 1501). I've installed
ipw2200 from RPMForge, but it now appears that this won't work because
the card is not an Intel PRO/Wireless card. Dell seem to support only MS
Windows Vista now so I don't think there's much chance of getting a
driver from them - so am I on

Turning Wireless Radio on and off: how?
Hi all,
I've got a Dell Inspiron 1501 with a Broadcom 1390 Wlan mini card
(integrated) wireless lan chipset. I've got an init script setup to
activate the wireless connection at boot time, however when the system
boots the adapter doesn't connect. I'm not able to get a connection
until after the desktop is done loading and I run the script from the
command line.
After some

CentOS 6 supported hardware
Has anyone seen a supported hardware list on CentOS 6? I've been looking
around for the last few days; even looked at RedHat's site but didn't
find one.
I've got a Dell Inspiron 1501 with a Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN mini-card
in it and I'm trying to find out if it's going to have native driver
support for the WIFI.
thanks,

CentOS on Dell Inspiron 640m laptop
I ordered and just received today a new Dell Inspiron 640m laptop (it also goes by the name E1405).
Anyone tried installing CentOS on this laptop? It's the wireless drivers I'm most concerned about; it's got the Dell 1390 internal wireless card (not the Intel wireless).
Anyone have some feedback, on the wireless or any other issues, on running CentOS on this laptop?
Thanks

Broadcom Wifi Problem
I have a Broadcom 802.11b/g hardware on my dual-boot laptop.
Note first that in the WinXP partition, the wifi makes DHCP
connections to my router with no problem. Since this
was not working in my new CentOS 6 partition, and
remembering that there was a driver problem with the
old Fedora partition it replaced, I followed instructions

Need Broadcom 4311 firmware for CentOS 5
Any hope of getting my laptop's Broadcom BCM94311 wireless running
on CentOS 5? I find lots of references to using fwcutter to get
the needed firmware from Windows drivers, but there's a Catch-22:
Version of fwcutter that generate files for the bcm43xx driver
in CentOS 5 don't recognize the md5sum of any currently
available Windows driver.
Newer versions of fwcutter

Wireless newtworking in CentOS 5
Installed CentOS 5 on my Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop, hoping that it will
be easier to set up wireless networking than it was in CentOS 4.4. But
still sooooo difficult to get it working, mainly because there doesn't
appear to be a driver pre-installed for this wireless card ((Dell
wireless 1390 Mini PCI network card 802.11b/g). Do I still have to use
ipw2200 and what is this anyway? - I really

3 NICS config
To all,
I have a firewall with 3 NICS.
eth0 connects to the Internet
eth1 connects to a wired lan
eth2 connects to a wireless lan
In my rules, I would like to create a zone loc which encompassed eth1
and eth2 and create 2 sub-zones: lan for eth1 and wlan for eth2.
Because I only want to open what I need on that firewall and because
that firewall is also used for different services (I know

Addressing outgoing connections to a specific interface
On a CentOS 5.5 laptop (Dell Inspiron, dual boot with a Debian-based
distro) I have a cable plugged into eth0 which is on a LAN with no
internet connection. Additionally, I connect wirelessly on wlan0 to
the internet. Both connections have router on the 192.168.0.1

Although I need to stay connected to the wireless router, can I still
access the address 192.168.0.1 on the wired

CentOS 5 - Gnome
Hi there I am just writing to find out if anyone else had
an issue installing CentOS 5 on an inspiron notebook.
If I choose Desktop - Gnome in the distribution selection, after the
"transferring image to hard disk" message it waits a very long time than
dies with an error about not being able to run the transaction due to
the following error:

Problems with Broadcom 4312 wireless
I'm migrating my son's Dell laptop from Vista to CentOS 5.3. He came
back from each of his first two years of college loaded with virii and
trojans. This year he said "Dad, can you give me Linux?"
5.3 went onto the laptop easily and after doing some research, I applied
the guidance for getting multimedia working and got the nvidia driver
loaded. That works great.

Battery status indicator in CentOS 4.4
I've got CentOS 4.4 installed on 3 machines - two laptops and a PC. Only
one, a HP Omnibook 900, shows the graphical battery status indicator (in
the bottom right of the screen), but the other laptop (a new Dell
Inspiron 1501) doesn't show it. Furthermore, the command /usr/bin/apm
gets the response 'no apm support in kernel' - I've tried yum-updating
the kernel and installing

ASTCC: How to reset periodically all "card in use" flag back?
If a user calls and hangs up before the destination party rings, than
the in-use flag remains set! This is one case, but maybe there are many
other cases.
I have created a number the user can dial to reset this flag. However,
that is written in the manual!!! Who reads a manual anyway!!!!
I want to make to reset all in use flag with a program. Has anybody done
it, or has a better idea?
My idea

Which external WiFi device for laptop running CentOS 5.3?
Have decided to give up on the embedded Broadcom 4312 wireless device in
my son's Dell laptop. I get WEP open authentication to work, but
nothing else. I was about to dump the bcm43xx kernel module and the
bcm43xx-microcode5.fw firmware and work with the newer b43 module and
associated firmware. However, he claims that at school, he has always

CentOS 5 and Broadcom wireless
I've got CentOS 5 installed on my hp pavilion ze 5300 laptop and the
network configuration UI says my wireless NIC has been correctly

driver on eth1. However, the inteface doesn't come up.
Google doesn't find anything recent about using Linux with Broadcom
except for someone's passing remark that Ubuntu 7 beta

CentOS 5.2 -- how do I choose a wireless network?
Hi. We have a Windows laptop that has gotten too slow, it's
borderline unusable, so I burned a CentOS 5.2 32-bit Live CD, just to
try it out in the home.
It boots up fine, but it does not connect to the Internet... Now
we normally connect through a wireless network, there are several
around here -- on the Windows box we choose the network to which to
connect... but on CentOS there is
