Patching tcpdump-smb to deal with hyperlong packet reports
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, I am writing about to say that tcpdump-smb on our multi protocol network (IP, NetBEUI, and SNA) occasionally reports hyperlong packets that look to contain the data of other packets (see previous posting about this). When Mr Tridgells patches are applied to the latest tcpdump (3.4a6, the one on ftp.ee.lbl.gov) the results are the same. The one reply to my letter about

tcpdump-smb won't work
I've read everything I've found on tcpdump-smb, and still can't get it to work right. I downloaded the binary from samba.org, and executed the command like so: (The command belowis directly from the README.smb that comes with tcpdump-3.4a5.tar.gz) ./tcpdump -i eth0 port 139 host 192.168.0.1 tcpdump: parse error How do I use it to get the decoded smb output? need mirrors for samba.anu.edu.au
The department of computer science at ANU is looking at networking costs. One big cost is the network traffic charges for samba.anu.edu.au. Currently it is costing about $1000 per month in international traffic charges (at 20c/meg). Note that we only pay for incoming data. To try and reduce the cost we are going to need to put in a mirror of the Samba web pages and ftp site in the US. I'm

tcpdump loses lots of packets
Hi folks, I've got a Dell R320 running CentOS 7, and a 10G NIC. I'm running a DNS server on it, for testing. As part of my testing, I'm attempting to capture all the DNS queries arriving on the server, using tcpdump. However, tcpdump's performance is abysmal, and it loses lots of the packets. Here's the output when I stop the capture: # tcpdump -nn -i p1p1 -w

relationship counselling for debian and rsync
I heard Debian's trying to freeze soon. I have a few points about rsync's Debian package. I'll see what I can do to close some Debian/rsync bugs. Fortunately some of the bad ones seem to be already addressed in our regular tarballs. It would be pretty cool if I could be automatically cc'd on Debian bug reports about rsync, if the BTS supports that. The debian/copyright file

how to do java-like hashtables in R, R from a java progra mmer's p onit of view
It sounds like we are kindred spirits. I am using an old PC, with linux installed, running tcpdump as my packet sniffer. I will experiment with data frames as you suggest to get the hang of R some more before worrying about hashtables again. Chris Marshall -----Original Message----- From: M. Starting tcpdump increases Samba performance 20 times
Hello, first post here from me. I have performance problems with Samba (3.0.22-1ubuntu3.1) on Ubuntu 6.06, fully updated. I get < 10 Mbit/sec over a GBit LAN, transferring files from Windows Server 2003 SP1 (or XP SP2) to Samba shares. The Ubuntu server is running on a P4 3.6 GHz with 2 GB RAM, the Win2k3 is running in a virtual machine on VMWare ESX 3.0.1. I have verified the problem on a Win
