@ERROR: access denied / using rsync 2.5.6 over SSH on Solaris
Dear list members, this is very similar to a problem which has been discussed last summer on the list, but there was no final solution then (as far as I could follow the thread of messages). Would you please take a look at my problem, to see if I'm missing something? Here is the useful data: * Purpose: using rsync over SSH as a non-anonymous file server to transfer files between two

Compiling smbpass.c
Hello All, I've been trying to compile samba-1.9.18p4 for the last couple of hours and seem to keep running into problems compiling smbpasswd. I'm running Slackware 3.4 Here's last section I tried to use from the Makefile: # Use this for Linux with shadow passwords - but not using PAM! # contributed by Andrew.Tridgell@anu.edu.au # add -DLINUX_BIGCRYPT is you have shadow passwords

subnet browsing
we have samba [mostly] working in a VPN application connecting two Mandrake subnets using SSH. if all machines define the same workgroup name, and we define a single domain master browser, (with the other subnet defined as a preferred, local, master browser,) and a single WINS server, after a little while, all shares are visible to all WIN9x machines. this samba stuff is fantastic! 2 questions:

question on register and dnsmgr_lookup
I "thought" I has everything using IP addresses. I am not making "outside" calls this is all internal. I have a connection between two machines both running asterisk. I am using 1.8.3 and I see a lot of dnsmgr_lookup's for "mymachine". I have a register line in sip.conf that is the only place mymachine is referenced. the actual definition for host= is the IP

Nodes and defaults question
Hi there, If I have a manifest with, say: node default { ..stuff.. } node mymachine { ..stuff.. } What would happen on mymachine: will the stuff in default be executed *as well as* the stuff in default, or only the stuff in mymachine? And, if the latter, should I move global stuff just to global scope outside of nodes? Thanks -Iwan

Can't connect to samba from foreign network --- 'Gethostbyaddr failed' error in log.smb
I have a samba server at ip address aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd I can connect to it from clients on subnets aaa.bbb.eee. and aaa.bbb.fff. I can't connect to it from clients on ggg.hhh. smb.conf has hosts deny = all hosts allow = localhost, aaa.bbb., ggg.hhh. The client can successfully 'ping mysambaserver' (resolves to aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd). Doing 'net view \\mysambaserver' fails with

Errors encountered with 1.9.18p10 Makefile
To whom it may concern: here are the diffs which I required to make the mentioned Makefile work. I maintain several platforms of samba servers, and thus use the VPATH option in the Makefile. I've been fixing installscripts.sh as well, so that `make install` works when run from my build directory. I'm assuming SAMBA v2.x will migrate to autoconf/configure and should fix these issues, but

PDC with 2 NICs problem
Hello Samba List, I'm running a Samba 3.0.22 PDC on Solaris 9. Things got a bit peculiar when I added a 2nd network interface. The two subnets are a primary network that carries all the client traffic and a tape-backup/admin network that is not accessible to any clients, ie. aaa.bbb.ccc.241 - bge0 - primary network (address suppressed) 192.168.254.254 - bge1 - admin/backup network

Doubt on browsing across subnets
Hi everyone, I'm getting roughed up trying a new setup on my server. I tried this with 1.9.18p10 and now with 2.0.3, first I want to see if I'm getting this correctly and then if there's a solution to what I think is happening. I have the following setup: One server with two NICs IP1=130.6.96.2, IP2=130.6.98.2, SM = 255.255.255.0 (BTW, these are internal IPs, not internet

multiple subnet browsing problem
I having difficulty getting browsing to fully work across two subnets. The subnets (having private addresses - 192.168.x.0) are connected by Linux boxes (RH6.1, one for each subnet) functioning as firewall, IP masquerade and router. On one subnet (call this one LEFT), there is an NT4.0 server as the PDC (also running WINS and DHCP) along with 50 or so clients and other servers (NT, Win9x) in

BIND help please
I am setting up a test domain to learn bind, and how it,s working. The master domain is bbb.ttt.domene 10.11.12.13 the child domain ftp.bbb.ttt.domene 10.11.55.77 The thing I don't understand is, why don't the query report additional info (ip address)? Her is two queries(the first the one that troubles me), cut of named.conf, test of zone file, the zone file and cut from log file.

Cross-subnet browsing with multiple domains/workgroups
Hi, I'm trying to set up browsing across subnets to provide an 'enterprise'-wide (sorry for the MS term ;-) browse list / Network Neighbourhood. I've read BROWSING.TXT, but I can't see how machines on different subnets in different domains/workgroups sync up (using Samba, anyway). On my local subnet, I've set up a clunky old Linux 386 (Samba 1.9.18p8) as the browse

sip.conf and SIP client host= not recognized in some cases
I am seeing an issue with getting certain sip devices to be recognized as defined SIP clients host= in the sip.conf and the only deference that I can find btw sources that work and don't work is that devices that send packets with an Initial Via header of themselves appears to work and pick the context correctly but those that don't have the Via just get dropped in the context of the
