multiple sessions to same destination
Hi All,
I had a look in archives but no joy.
I just want to know before i deploy - if there is any problem with having
multiple rsync sessions from many source locations all to same destination
server ( all copying to different file systems obviously ) ?? Its jusat that
i see on the destination machine a process rsync -server being called
whenever a client connects.
Thanks !

Surveys ans missing values
Hello,
I still apologise if the question i ask is naive. I would like to use R
instead of usual softs (SAS, Stata) or at list to do things that the others
do not. As a consequence I am trying to get familiar with R, and i am
astonished because it does not seem to do things that are easy to do on
other softs.
I have got data with missing values (I am working on a questionnaire filled
by students)

http://samba.gorski.net/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/redhat/
and I have already installed SAMBA 2.0.6 which come
with my red head linux 6.2 CD. But the 2.0.7 SAMBA is
conflict with SAMBA 2.0.6. and it will not allow me
to install the latest version of SAMBA. It gives me
error messages while I am trying to install samba2.0.7

General speed question
We have some speed/performance issues:
We have a 100M fullduplex private network setup to handle rsync transfers
to our "mirror" server with a command like:
time rsync -e ssh -avzl --delete --rsync-path=/usr/local/bin/rsync \
--exclude ".netscape/cache/" --delete-excluded \
bigserver:/staff1 /mirror/bigserver
It takes about 20 minutes to check/transfer files from

SAMBA digest 1812
Hi samba list members,
Firstly, I've been using Samba for some while now and would to thank the
Samba team for such a brilliant effort. I've got a Samba server running on a
Linux box for a client (around 25-30 users) which has been running nearly
90 days now without any serious hitches at all.
The client is incredibly impressed, over the moon, etc ... so it's
probably time to pay up

windows clients can't see workgroup at all
I'm trying to troubleshoot a new samba setup on a tiny network, and I'm
clearly missing something. I'm running Samba 3.0.22 on Ubuntu Linux.
When I first set it up, it seemed to go so smoothly. I changed all the
workstations to the same workgroup (RABNETWORK) and they could see each
other and the server, but they couldn't open anything on the server. I don't
really understand

generating error message on smbclient -L apollo
Hello,
When I run the 'smbclient -L apollo' command at the UNIX prompt a I get an
error.
I have gone as far as I can in this DIAGNOSIS.txt file. Does anyone have
any thoughts on what may be causing my problem ?
I have made my comments to the DIAGNOSIS.txt file via '---- davidw
{comment}' so you can see what I've done to date.
Also, I thought I'd pass on the output

Password Error
I'm new to Samba software. I just installed Samba on my Sun Sparcstation 20 running Solaris 2.5. I
read the DIAGNOSIS.txt file, but in this case, it didn't helped me. When I tried to login in from the
PC to the unix machine by typing "net use x: \\BIGSERVER\TMP", it prompted me for the password, so I typed
in the unix password (I guess?), but an error message returned -

Compiling on AIX3.2.5
I have tried to compile 2.0.4b and 2.0.5a on AIX3.2.5 and it
gives a problem when I test it with "smbclient -L bigserver",
that was discussed in the archives. I thought it was fixed.
It gives:-

Debian server
Hi
I've just built a Debian 3.0 Woody Samba server with version 2.23a.
Using stable rather than unstable.
After putting it into a network with another Samba server I find that
the Win98 client machines can't connect to it but they can connect to
the other server. The other server is set to OS level 65 and the new
one is somewhere below that.
I've run all the usual tests and they

Windows admins "upgraded" network so Samba is no longer working ...
I'm a long time user of Unix OSes, and new to Linux/Samba administration.
The Window's administrators have changed all logins to domain based and as
such, my previous configuraiton of Samba no longer is viisible in the
network neighbourhood. (If I log into my machine locally, everything works
great with teh Samba server but nothing on the windows side is conveniant).
