Samba configuration
I'm trying to config a Linux box to integrate into a windows network using
pam_smb and samba.
Ive set it up so that using pam_smb I can get the user to log onto the
linux desktop with their NT id and password.
The only problem is once the user is logged on they need to be able to
access shared resources disk, printers etc... without the need to
reauthenticate to the domain, i.e. use a cache

Local library on Windoze.
I'm mystified by a Windoze ``phenomenon'' which has just bitten me.
I have a laptop which boots either Windoze or Linux; I (sad to say)
need the Windoze OS for teaching purposes. I have R 1.9.1 installed
on the laptop in the Windoze OS.
Just now I decided to install, under the Windoze version of R,
a library (``Misc'') of some local functions that I have collected

wine and windoze me
I have tried codeweavers wine and now the latest cvs version of wine dated
2001-08-24. In no case am I able to run anything but notepad from windoze
ME. The doze media player...nope, internet exploder? nope.
Here is what I get trying to run windoze media player:

printer vendors' windoze 3.1x drivers
Hi,
I'm wondering if I could (ab)use wine for
transparently printing from linux via the
vendors' win 3.1x printer drivers. I'll need
that for a proslide 35 film recorder and an
epson 980 inkjet with the best (photo) output
quality available with windoze (from 3.1x)
drivers only.
There is, of course a hardware solution using
ghostscript's mswinpr2 (windoze GDI) and a

Asterisk Assistants for Linux or Windoze???
RE: [Asterisk-Users] Are there any graphic designers on

It wouldn't make sense to create Asterisk Assistants for
Windoze (it'd probably be called Asterisk Wizards, btw)
because Asterisk doesn't run on Windoze.
As for Linux, we are currently looking into that.
The Assistants are built using the

Windoze 2K and Samba 2.2 PDC

same as workgroup name
4. join to domain in win2000 with ur user that belongs to domain admin group

Problem with installing home-made package under Windoze.
I am using/trying to use R 2.2.0.
I have created a package of ``supplementary'' time series functions
for use by my students in a time series course. The package involves
only raw R code; no dynamic loading to complicate matters. I need to
install this package in a location on a local area network where the
students can access it under Windoze.
In the past I learned that I could do

Samba PDC windoze BDC
Hi,
During my migration to samba, I had kind of assumed
that I could run Samba as a PDC and my windoze server
as a BDC to ease the migration path a little and still
keep the same domain. I was going to use samba 2.2.5
on the PDC and NT4 sp6 on the BDC. After reading quite
a bit, it looks as though this doesn't work?
Is there a way to make it work?
Does Samba 3 handle this?
Is Samba 3

Hi.
It's normal for bareos mailing list and bugtrac system. Bareos is paid
support oriented (even opesourced), so don't expect so much help from
them - when they could get some money for that (paid support). For me it

Need help taking over my Windoze Domain
Hi again,
My goal here is to 'fdisk' my Windoze PDC, and I think I just need a little more help....
OK, I've susccessfully set up Samba 2.2.8a and OpenLDAP 2.0.27. I was able to join a XP,NT, and 2000 box to a new "test" domain, and log into it.
Now I want to shut down my WindowsPDC, change my NetBios and workgroup name on my Samba server, and have it take over without

Shares on XP - Q from a Windoze Newbie:)
Hello list
(Objective is to run a nightly backup script for my partners XP Home
machine personal files under "Documents and Settings".)
This is more a need for confirmation (I hope) than a true Q.
Not too familiar with Windoze since 2000, so:

Summary and thanks: .Rprofile under Windoze.
Many thanks to all who responded to my cri de coeur: Charles Annis,
John Bollinger, Petr Pikal, Brian Ripley, Duncan Murdoch, Dan
Nordlund, and Richard Heiberger. (I don't think --- I hope --- I
haven't missed anyone.)
The essential solution to my problem was indeed to eliminate that
@#@$#@$^#@ ``.txt'' extension from the filename. I.e. the file must

.Rprofile under Windoze.
I am (for my sins) having to do some work using R under Windoze. I
wanted to set up a .Rprofile to control my set-up. The docs on
.Rprofile say that it can/should be placed in ``the user's home
directory''. ``An Introduction to R'' observes lucidly that this
concept needs to be clarified under Windoze.
Following the suggestions in An Introduction to R, I tried
putting a
