Configure error 2.2.0 - no locking
I've got Redhat 6.2 kernel 2.2.18 and have been running samba 2.07.
When I try to configure samba 2.2.0, the configure bombs out with
an error
ERROR: No locking available. Running Samba would be unsafe
with what I think relevant lines from the configure output are:
checking for Linux kernel oplocks... no
checking for fcntl locking... no
Is there something I have to enable in the Kernel for

Sun finally ships Samba as standard on Solaris 9
Well you won't find them shouting about it, but if you dig down
in their web pages on Solaris 9 you'll find this :
"Common Linux applications, such as Samba, Apache, Linux (GNU) commands,
etc., are included in the Solaris 9 Operating Environment. The Solaris
Software Companion CD has an even more comprehensive set of free software."
So I guess that means we made it onto the OS

Multiple Services on one Server
Newbie question!
We currently are running a product call
TAS from Syntax Corporation and would like to move to Samba. I have review
the documentation and cannot find how to set up muliple services on one
server. I tried using the Netbios name = and the include statement to
bring in another smb.conf file but I don't think I'm on the right track.

ADDITIONAL ISSUE
Andrew:
One additional issue that came up with trying to configure the SMB.CONF
file:
The "Using Samba" book from O'Reilly says to start up my browser and go to
"http://localhost:901, to use the SWAT package.
This did not work. My IE 5.0 came back with an unable to locate or connect
to
the specified host.
I know the /etc/services file was modified correctly, I checked it

hosts allow/deny question
Hi all,
I would like to do something like this at Samba level:
hosts allow = subnet1/mask1 subnet2/mask2 etc
hosts deny = *
But this doesn't seem to work (machine that are not in subnet1 and
not in subnet2 still have access)
I think the * is not understood by Samba, I tried ALL, this didn't
work either. I'm gonna check the samba source code but if I could
get an expert answer

Case sensitive password Win95 client
Hello,
I need an answer to the following problem:
I have a Samba server with domain logons enabled and with
encrypt passwords=no. So I don't use the smbpasswd file, only
the Unix password files.
When I try to logon with a Win95 client (client for Microsoft Networks,
logging on to a domain), people with mixed-case passwords cannot logon
to the Samba logon server. Those with a password in

network extremely slow
samba2.07,nt4sp6a
I run a samba-server with 15nt-clients on a 100MBit-Switch. Now I
faced extremely poor performance and really have no idea why. I even
dont know if it can be a samba-problem.
When copying myriads of small file from a client to the server or vice
versa I get bad performance:
1000 files a 16kb: ~80seconds = 200kb/second
But this is highspeed compared to copying from nt to nt:

"remote announce": system broadcast addresses can't differ still?
We have 4 class C networks,
199.129.206.*
199.129.207.*
199.129.208.*
199.129.209.*
I see IP addresses from all 4 classes thru tcpdump.
Some of these computers broadcast as C-class computers; eg, to
199.129.206.255
Some broadcast to
255.255.255.255
Of course, several C class networks would induce me to use a
B-class broadcast,
199.129.255.255
This works for the computers I

Print Jobs in /tmp
I have a quick printing question:
When users print through Samba, a copy of the print job is ALWAYS left in /tmp
and not erased. When I print through lpr, this is not the case. I am using
LPRng 3.5.3, Samba 2.0.3, Kernel 2.2.4, and RHL 5.2 with all the update RPMs.
Here are the relevant sections of my smb.conf file:

printing = lprng
print command = /usr/local/bin/lpr -P%p %s -r

'credentials' file doesn't work - also observed by others
Background: Linux, Debian (Sarge). I want to auto-mount an smbfs at
boot. smbmount version is 3.0.7-Debian.
With the following in my fstab, I can do the mount as root, but have to
provide a password (hence either I can't boot unattended, or can't mount
it during boot):

Timing in a script
Hi, all --
I am trying to write a script in which I can add users and their samba passwords easily and quickly.? It looks something like:
?? useradd -c "User Name" -g groupname -p unixpassword accountname
?? echo -e "smbpassword\nsmbpassword\n" | pdbedit -a -t -u accountname
If
I type the lines from the keyboard, it works fine.? However, when I try

Samba patches - where best to send them?
Hi Folks,
Where is the best place to feed back patches and problem reports for
Samba these days? Should I be using "samba-patches@samba.org"? This
list? The samba-technical list?
The samba-bugs address bounces back an auto-response telling one to use
samba-patches for well-formed patches, but if the Jitterbug web
interface is to be believed then submissions to samba-patches seem to be

NetBIOS keepalives.
Hi folks,
I have a couple of observations about NetBIOS keepalive handling in
Samba, in case anyone is interested. I came across a few oddities when
investigating why some of our Samba servers were logging:
lib/util_sock.c:write_socket_data(540)
write_socket_data: write failure. Error = Broken pipe
type errors on a very frequent and regular basis.

Multiple UID-0 accounts in a Samba domain?
Hi folks,
I have a Solaris 8 machine, running Samba 2.2.2, acting as a domain
controller.
Several different people in the Department do administrative work, such
as adding client machines to the network. Rather than a single shared
root password we've historically given each sysadmin a root equivelent
account, so that in addition to root account there are several other
administrator accounts
