Directories show empty after some time ...
Sorry that I will ask a kind of a vague question, but I don't really know
how to proceed at the moment:
Some of our Samba (1.9.18p10) users experience the following problem: they
map a drive to a Samba share (pointing into AFS, if that matters) and see
all files/dirs correctly after the password dialog. 'Some time' later (for
one user usually about one hour) they try to use the drive

Trouble with copying a file from Windows 95 to a mapped drive
A PC running Windows 95 has a share mounted from a Samba 2.0.7 server
running under Mac OS X Server. An attempt is being made to copy a
file on the PC called suse.iso to a subdirectory of the share
(faberlab) on the Samba server. The PC hangs a bit and eventually
complains that it can't create the file. Here is the debug log
starting from the moment the copy has begun...

problem with NT-4.0
Hello, we have a Linux box running Samba 2.2.7a and several clients
running Windows NT 4 WS (last service pack) and Windows 95 (last service
pack too).
All clients are running a program made in ACU-Cobol for Windows and
sometimes the NT machines abort the execution reporting a cobol blocking
error. This usually results in broken indexes...
We have traced the execution and haven't found the

(no subject)
I'm having a problem with files locking so that every time the are
opened up they are opened as Read-Only. Windows doesn't see them as
readonly but Samba thinks that they are write=no and so they can't be
saved or deleted.
I've included a log, my smb.conf, and a getfacl of a user's home
directory as well as a getfacl of the directory from /home. Any help

Samba 2.2.5-1, Error Creating Directories
Hi!
This is a really weird problem, I hope, someone can help me out there.
First of all, I put my smb.conf on the web, you can find it here[0].
The Sambaserver (ESS-LINUX) is just an ordinary workstation (in the
terms of SMB) and uses the PDC (ESS_SERVER) for authentication (see
"password server"-directive).
Nearly everything works fine. Each authenticated user gets his
home-directory

Error connecting Win95 box to Linux.
Could anyone tell me what I may be doing wrong here? I'm using
samba-1.9.18p8 on a Linux 2.0.32 box, RedHat 5.0 install.
I can descend into this share from a WinNT box just fine, but get the
following error messages from a Win95 box.
Thank you all in advance,

dotless i problem samba3 - win98
Hello,
I try samba 3.0.2a with Mandrake 10 Official release.
It works pretty well but one exception, "dotless i", a Turkish
character. The other Turkish characters works.
If any filename contains dotless i, this file/directory is inaccessible
from win98 clients.
I setup with Turkish locale. And i run samba with "export LC_ALL=C".
Otherwise it runs, but doesn't share

NonDeterministic Disk Full Errors
We're presently running Samba 1.9.15 on a Dec Alpha running OSF-3.2. We've
been running this configuration for over a year and have developed a new
problem in the last few weeks.
Intermiddently, when a user attempts to save a file or copy (via desktop) a
file to the server, the server returns a disk full error. If the user
tries the exact same transaction, it usually works on the second

readbraw vs. readX
Using Samba 1.9.18p10 I have found a difference between Win95 and WinNT:
opening 'Lotus Freelance' files from Win95 is really slow (about 17 kB/s
only) vs fast (~hundreds of kB/s) from WinNT.
Looking into the log (with debug level=4) I see using Win95:

Problem with visual C++ and samba
We are having a problem with Microsoft visual C++ compiling source
code maintained on a samba server. Occasionaly the compiler reports
that it cant open the file vc50.pch. The samba server is running on a
freebsd box. Taking a look at the log files it looks like when the
operation fails the server is processing the command

MSDFS Share can't create directory from NT 4 SP6a Client

Samba 1.9.16pl11: dropping connections between Solaris 2.5.1 and WinNT4SP3
Hi all:
I am experiencing a problem where WinNT and Samba are dropping
connections during file transfers. I have the following smb.conf
settings:
keep alive = 30
dead time = 1440
socket options = IPTOS_THROUGHPUT SO_KEEPALIVE
(although I tried IPTOS_NODELAY with no apparent benefit). The client
is copying a large number of files up to the server, then there is a

directories creation troubles
Hi !
I've just finished setting up a samba 2.2.6pre2 installation on a SGI
running IRIX 6.5.16.
I've discovered that logging on a win2000 client, if I create a new file
on a test share everything works but when I try to create a new
directory I get the following error on win:
Impossible to create the folder "New Folder"
Impossible to find the specified file.

Win95 .bat Issue
For some reason I'm getting Access denied errors when I try to execute a
.bat file that resides on a TRU64 samba share, from a Win95 command prompt.
The drive is mapped as x:\ & for the sake of testing, the directory has been
recursively set to 777 (chmod).
Command prompt output:

NT domain logon questions
Hi. Myself and a anti-Micro$oft companion tried to get
NT domain logons working yesterday and seem pretty close, but
not quite.
Samba is 1.9.18alpha3, server is an Ultra-2 running SunOS 5.5.1.
Encrypted passwords seem to be working, a la smbclient and mostly
from NT, "mostly" because it *seemed* to be working but we did
have some problems with home directories in smbpasswd changing

"No such file" error when reading Win98 profiles
Hi all,
I'm having an odd error with Samba 2.2.5 and I'm wondering if anyone can
give me a hand with it.
About a month ago, I upgraded from Samba 2.2.1 to 2.2.5 on RedHat 7.2 and,
since then, my Win98 users have been receiving "No such file or directory"
errors during login. The upgrade was installed using John Terpstra's RH 7.2
RPM package.
Users are set up with roaming

Printers now don't work - what can I check?
My Samba-shared printers (v2.0.3) printers worked great until I updated
several software packages last weekend.
These printers are networked and can still be used by running lpr from the
command line of my Linux (RedHat v5.2, kernel 2.2.5) server. Print jobs
sent from the client machines (OS/2 and Win98) are not printed.
A job sent from a client machine is apparently just lost. Nothing

HELP: SAMBA eats too many Unix resources!!!
Hi all,
I've a BIG problem on a Unix SunOS 4.1.4 running SAMBA (samba-1.9.18p3) in
order to export some file systems to WindowsNT client machines. The client
are using Visual C/C++ 5.x for compiling files (source are remote, but
binary are generated on local disks). The problem is that the CPU time and
the IO goes... too UP (I've a load average of 8)!!!
I traced the clients (with log

oplcok_break more information (PR#12734)
Hi! After more work on the oplock_break problem, I've found the following
in my tcpdump-smb logging. It seems that when ost5 (pid=26339 in the logs
that follow) requests access to the oplocked file comm.inf from ost6
(pid=5872) the oplock_break failes (this is NOT isolated to any one or two
systems on our network, just using these two as an example, and the server
reports no dropped packets
