Delete dead browse lists
I've run into this problem a few times now and still haven't figured out how to fix it without shutting down my entire network. We get a lot of guest and transient computers belonging to different workgroups. The gleefully add themselves to the SAMBA domain master and the SAMBA master browse never gets rid of them. Isn't there some sort of timeout or interface where these can be

Reusable Puppet config for Vagrant
I took an hour this morning to document how I use Vagrant and Puppet together to provision development VMs as well as more production-like systems. This may be entirely elementary to folks who are more fluent with Puppet, but this is an example I thought was lacking. https://github.com/blalor/vagrant-puppet-example I welcome feedback and criticism of this setup. I''m looking to

Word document corruption when connection lost
We've been having some problems where connections are being lost to our 2.0.4b Samba machine, the specifics of which are in a different post. To add to the problems we find there is a problem with particularly Word and also some other programs, with the file in memory getting corrupted when the connection is lost. If a user loads a Word document from there Samba share and then the

Where to put general utility functions?
Hi, I have a bunch of utility functions. If I put them in "controllers/application.rb" then they will be accessible from all controllers. If I put them in "helpers/application_helper.rb" then they will be accessible from all templates. But what if I need to access them from everywhere - controllers, views, even models? Where do I put them? Ingo Weiss -- Posted via

[PATCH] ARM: cache coherence problem in guestcopy.c
I''ve encountered a rather unusual bug while I''m implementing live migration on arndale board. After resume, domU kernel starts invoking hypercalls and at some point the hypercall parameters delivered to xen are corrupted. After some debugging (with the help of HW debugger), I found that cache polution happens, and here is the detailed sequence. 1) DomU kernel allocates a local

Executing a script after creating vhosts with create_resources

I am creating a bunch of vhosts, their definitions are stored in json (I''m using heira) that json file will be generated from data held on another server. I''m just using the puppetlabs apache module and create_resources to then generate all the vhosts and their directories etc. I''m

Relaying samba
I have a somewhat hybrid setup that I need some help with... I have a main server running 3.0.28 and a satellite server running 3.0.26. They are linked via VPN. Right now we're using cifs to communicate through the VPN, which is painfully slow. Since the two servers are linux boxes, is there a more bandwidth-efficient protocol that we can use between the two servers? NFS? The users

Staging content from modules for temporary use by resources
Hello, I would like to find a few to use files available in a module for the execution of a particular resource, without having to stage the file explicitly onto the client and possibly having to clean it up afterwards. (This could also apply to content coming from templates.) The use-cases I have in mind are: running a SQL file (to set up some content in a database), extracting an archive

Older versions of packages disappearing from yum repos
I've been designing the infrastructure for a new team using CentOS 6 and Puppet. I'm still learning Puppet, but thought I had things pretty well under control. After this week, I'm beginning to wonder? :-) In the last week I've had versions of three packages disappear from the yum repositories I'm using, both EPEL and the standard ones from a base CentOS 6.3 install. NT Crashes when doing large network file Xfers (was Re: NT crashes during smbtar)
Ernie, Thanks for the great info.. Based on what you were seeing, would you suspect that part of the problem is with the combination of NT and the 3com card (3c595)? Currently, we are ONLY seeing this under NT Workstation (not server) and almost all of our machines have this same 3com 3c595 card (only if using 100BaseT).. -- Rick -----Original Message----- From: Ernie Oporto
