How to write a printcap entry for remote printer
I am sharing some printers attached to Win95 boxes, and would like to be able to do more than connect from Linux with smbclient and print via translate. I would like to be able to specify a printcap entry for these so as to be able to print from pine or lynx or Netscape (when I get X running here at work). I haven't found anything in Samba docs or LDP docs yet to tell me how to write such

[PATCH] guestfish: Redirect stdout when executing remote commands
guestfish --listen necessarily redirects its stdout to /dev/null so as not to interfere with eval. The remote protocol doesn't contain any other provision for collecting stdout for the caller, so executing guestfish --remote will never generate any output. This patch fixes that by forwarding the caller's STDOUT to the listener over the unix socket connection. The listener redirects its

help for tftp-hpa with libc5
I want to compile tftp-hpa on libc5 because we have many systems still using this library. There were some constants missing that i copied from glibc-2.1 headers, and now I'm left with this and I don't know what to do since all I can do is copy/paste, not touch real code :-) === gcc -O2 -m486 -fno-strength-reduce -D_XPG4_2 -D_XOPEN_SOURCE -D__EXTENSIONS__ -D_BSD_SOURCE -D_ISO9X_SOURCE

Using Tobit and SUR in Systemfit in R
Dear Community, does anybody have an idea on how to estimate a system of three seemingly unrelated regressions, two of which being TOBIT and one OLS? Background: I am currently estimating a translog cost function and two corresponding cost share equations using systemfit and the seemingly unrelated regression ("SUR") specification. However, I consider it more appropriate to estimate

[PATCH] xen/build: Remove hacked up version of figlet
This hacked up version of figlet contributes a supprisingly large proportion of the Coverity issues found under xen/ (and therefore attributed against Xen) Figlet can be found in all distros, so make use of it. We keep xen.flf (being the Xen figlet font) and replace the hacked up octal transform with a short python script. The Xen Makefile has been tweaked in such a way that it still prints the

problems with xlab
Dear R-list members, I'm using the 'effects' package to plot a graph with fixed values. For some reason, I cannot change the label for the 'x' axis using 'xlab=""'. The usual commands work for the y axis and for the main title. My last attempt used the following syntax: model.effects<-(all.effects(model.1)) plot (model.effects, main="Figure

Referring on the value of a counter in a loop
Dear all The following is a very basic and beginner's question on loops. Suppose you have data (say, 1000 cases) with two variables named "answer" (string) and "class" (numeric). The latter runs from 1 to 78 and categorizes the data. I need to create a file "answer_1.txt" for the cases with class==1, and so on, up to "answer_78.txt" I have been

Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin
I am a beginner when it comes to using R, though fortunately I already know something about statistics. I think factor analysis should be used sparingly, but I occasionally use it. It doesn't seem to me that factanal() provides Kaiser's Measure of Sampling Adequacy, which should be computed for factor problems based on a small number of subjects, though perhaps it is elsewhere. Does anyone

p-values
Dear All, When I run rlm to obtain robust standard errors, my output does not include p-values. Is there any reason p-values should not be used in this case? Is there an argument I could use in rlm so that the output does include p-values? Thanks in advance, Celso [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Goodness of fit with robust regression
Dear list members, I have been doing robust regressions in R, using the MASS package for rlm and robustbase for logistic regressions. I must be doing something wrong, because my output does not include r-squares (or adjusted r-squares), or, in the case of glmrob, -2log likelihoods. Does anyone know how to get an output that includes these? Thanks so much for the help
