Hi All,
I have already integrated my samba with the Active directory domain
using winbind, but I am trying to do the following. I want to map a UNIX
group "ccusers" to Active Directory group "NICE\ccusers". I need my AD
users that don't have local accounts on my machine to be able to access
directories owne by the UNIX group ccusers. It seems like it should be

Problems with Winbind Idmap and Active Directory 2008 r2
For our Linux Machines (SLES 10) we are using kerberos and LDAP to
authenticate against Active Directory (works perfectly)
Please note that the same configuration works with Windows 2003 Server, the
problem is with with Windows 2008 Server
However we are experiencing problems with winbind for the file share, I see
in the "log.winbind-idmap" logfile the following errors

idmap limit?
Hi,
we are running a file server as member server of a windows 2012 domain.
Now we are facing the problem, that some UIDs are not mapped to the user
names by the running winbindd process. This results in "nobody"
usernames for nfs shares mounted by other clients.
When doing an "ls -l" in the homes directory on the member server (file
server), the list looks like:

Help needed with Windows7 roaming files.
Hi all,
We've been trying to setup/upgrade a samba PDC (version 3.56) with OpenLDAP
as backend and roaming profiles for Windows7 (32bit) Clients. windows7 has
no problem
with login after applying the reg patches, however, it seems to always load
a temporary profile as opposed to roaming one for users, no local profile
is created.
this has caused Outlook 2010 to function improperly

SAMBA Groups and Permissions
hi
i have a user
~# id test_user
uid=500,gid=500 (users),groups (users,kids)
as you can see, this user is in primary group "users" and also member of
group "kids"
if he tries to access /home/board via smb (Samba 3.0 + openldap) from a
windows client (XP), he fails, because his
sambaPrimaryGroupSID maps to -> "users"
and /home/board is not accessible for

OS X Clients Can't Create Sub-Directories
I'm running samba on a local linux server, with a bunch of shares. Over the last several years, this has worked perfectly in our heterogenous network of OS X and Windows. All my windows clients still work perfectly - my users can mount the samba shares and create, rename, move etc files and folders.
However, recently (starting yesterday) my OS X clients are unable to rename any sub

mount read/write ntfs via samba
Until now, we've been using samba to push out unix files to windows users.
With
Security = domain, this works perfectly. Now we'd like to go the other way
ie mount
on the linux side our PC files. Using
mount -t smbfs -username=administrator //pc-server/users /PCuser
works but all files appear to be owned by root so users can't write to
their own files.
I can add dmask=777,

"Cannot delete non-empty directory"/"Operation not permitted" with file-creation on target-server
Hello Everybody,
I was searching for an answer myself for quite some time without success, so
I hope somebody can clarify...I use rsync to sync webcontent from one server
to another.
Apache-details:
* Apache runs as nobody:nogroup.
* Source-Server-Rights htdocs: The rsync-user gains access via o+rx
* Destination-Server-Rights htdocs: The rsync-user is in the group
'nogroup', gains

1.0.13: mail_extra_groups alternative syntax?
"Warning: mail_extra_groups setting was often used insecurely so it is
now deprecated, use mail_access_groups or mail_privileged_group instead"
I use the following:
mail_extra_groups = mail nogroup
Because I have the real and virtual accounts.
What's the correct way to replace the above line? It seems that
mail_privileged_group only accepts one group, but I need two.

Err. That would be a *really* bad idea. See the l0phtcrack
source for details :-).
Seriously, though. The password hashes used on NT are very
poor. They don't use salt and people are now

is sssd *faster* than samba4's builtin winbind?
Using samba 4.0.9 as an AD DC (no other domain servers).
Since my UIDs and GIDs have changed, I was doing cleanup:
find /srv/svn/ -xdev '(' -nouser -o -nogroup ')' -ls
I noticed this was very slow -- iostat reported only about 2tps and
50kB/s to my disks. So I timed it with nsswitch.conf users & groups set
to "files" vs. "files winbind":

Permission denied for volume create in raw format
Hi,
I'm facing similar problem to described here:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/libvirt-users/2016-February/msg00033.html
I got Libvirt pool mounted over netfs and I'm trying to create new volume,
with pool.createXML. When format is qcow2, everything works fine.
Unfortunately, for raw images libvirt raises error Permission denied. Whole
pool is owned by root. Libvirt starts as root user

configure: added --with-group
I just committed the --with-group option for configure. One thing is not
quite what I like, but I have no idea how to script this in autoconf.
Currently both RUN_AS_USER and RUN_AS_GROUP have the defaults "nobody"
and "nogroup" respectively. I think this really should be changed to the
following:
- if neither --with-user, nor --with-group are specified, we apply the
defaults
