PATCH: --write-devices to allow synchronising to a block device
Hi List, I had a need recently to efficiently synchronise between some large LUNs (boot drive disks) at two different datacentres. Solutions like drbd and $proprietary_array_vendors_software were overkill - we only needed (wanted!) to periodically synchronise these LUNs whenever major changes were generated on the source. On the other hand however, re-sending the entire disk contents each time

ordered shutdown
Hallo there. I'm new to this list and also to NUT. Our previous ups-system was APC based and apcupsd was serving the ordered shutdowns in our network. Our new ups is made by MGE and that's why we can't use apcupsd anymore. This led us into trouble. Our network system is quite complex and we need shutdown sequence levels. The servers depend on each other because of NFS and SQL

VM's in a HA-configuration - synchronising vm config files
Hi, i'd like to establish a HA-Cluster with two nodes. My services will run inside vm's, the vm's are stored on a FC SAN, so every host has access to the vm's. But how can i keep the config files (xml-files under /etc/libvirt/qemu) synchronised ? Is there a possibility to store the config files somewhere else ? E.g. a partitition with ocfs2 on the SAN ? If not, what would you do

Synchronising Japanese Characters in Rsync
Hi there, I have searched the rsync website, as well as an extensive search on google, but have been unable to come up with a definitive answer regarding whether rsync will synchronise files and directories which have Japanese characters in them. I am using an English language version of Linux, which has some directories shared via samba. Both English and Japanese language windows clients

Synchronising NT and Unix Passwords
Hi, I've been handed the administration of our Solaris 2.5.1 Server and have recently upgraded to Samba 2.0.5a. As the server is in a predominantly NTsp3 environment it was requested that when the NT passwords change (each month) the Unix Passwords should also change. All the NT and Win95 Clients are currently authenticating using Plain Text Passwords. Also the current security level is

Error when Synchronising
Sir, I've just install SuSE 9.0 and am running their Samba 2.8.8a-SuSE version of samba and am encountering the same problem with my windows 2000 pro machine when I attempt to access printers offered by the samba server. Windows 98 has no problem with the printers but Windows 2000 gets this error. Did you ever resolve your issue? If so would you share your solution with me? Thank you,

Synchronising password of some AD users with an external LDAP?
I'm in a situation where I should establish an external (i.e. non-AD) LDAP directory for my employer for various web-based authentication purposes. I don't think that Samba--or Windows AD, for that matter--in and itself would be the best tool for this purpose; so far I've been reviewing 389 DS, ApacheDS, OpenDJ and plain old OpenLDAP, but have made no final decision yet. Now however,

Synchronising NT, unix and Samba passwords
Our Samba is working perfect except that when a users NT password expires and the user changes it they can't access the share anymore from Windows NT explorer. At the moment i have to log on to our unix system and change the unix and samba passwords manually to match the new NT password. I've been looking through all the websites on Samba but nothing has helped. I've done all sorts of

Error when Synchronising
I'm trying ot get Windows 2K off line folders to work but it fails when writing a file back to the Samba share reporting that access is denied on the share. But I can copy and replace the file manually without a proplem. Running Samba 2.2.7-security-rollup-fix on Redhat 8 (upto date) Samba Logfile for Machine account is below. Any ideas? backup mails from alternate storage
Hi there! It seems that # doveadm backup -v backup -fu $MUSER mdbox:"$BKPDIR/$MUSER/mdbox" doesn't backup all messages stored in alternate storage. mail_location = mdbox:~/mdbox:ALT=/srv/mail/slow/vmail/%n/mdbox I don't know how to debug this. The sizes of the mailboxes in the filesystems of user C are strange: ~/mdbox: # du -sm 2169 ALT: # du -sm 25252 backup: # du -sm

Timeout on deletion
Hello, I use Rsync client (3.0.9) synchronising to a Rsync daemon (3.0.8) over SSH. I have sometimes a huge amount of files to delete. Rsync daemon can take a lot of time to delete them, leading Rsync client into a timeout? Is there any way to avoid this timeout ? I would have liked not to increase timeout value on client side (which is already set to 600 seconds), as I don't really know

Weird XP synchronisation issue. Using old cached IP?
First, a little background: I successfully migrated the samba PDC funtionality from an old Suse machine to a new debian-based one. The old machine was named PHOENIX and had an ip address of 10.10.10.4. The new one has the same name but is on 10.10.10.14. Everything is working just fine with this new domain (authentication, adding users, computers, printing etc), except for one laptop. Since the

How can you synchronise audio with an already-playing stream?
Hey all, I'm having trouble synchronising pieces of audio with an already-playing stream. I have a common background track is always playing, then themes that can mix with this track at arbitrary points. The theme and background tracks are all the same length, so the plan is that themes will start playing at a position that corresponds with that of the background track. Currently when I
