deleting from hash question
I''m a ruby newbie and have what is probably a relatively simple problem I''m trying to solve. Say that I created a hash: TASKS = { "homework" => "Do Your Homework", "chores" => "Your Have Chores", "exercise" => "Don''t Forget to Exercise" } and then I had an Assignment model with: def

Overriding a resource created in a define
I''m using the resolv.conf pattern described here: http://projects.puppetlabs.com/projects/puppet/wiki/Resolv_Conf_Patterns In my node templates I have a "base" class that does all of the housekeeping chores to set up a basic server (install preferred editors, subversion, etc.). I added a call to the resolv_conf define to set up the standard /etc/resolv.conf file used by 95%

detaching console from background asterisk
This puzzles me. If I start asterisk in the background, and then attach to it to perform some chores, is there a way to detach again without stopping the background process? Entering "stop now" kills both the console attachment as well as the background process. I need to attach to the running asterisk in order to do "init keys" but once I do that, it seems I cannot just

New to Samba
I am new to samba but becuase I use squid and I want to track my authenticated users I installed samba 3 but keep hitting dead ends on how to add it to the domain etc. I can't seem to even get the smbd to startup. I got swat keying into the smb.conf but it ended up in another directory so I don't think that is configured. I can't even find good documentation to see if samba is even

best source for rpmdevtools RPM in C5
hello, I'm going to try this question again. The first time I botched it and the answers I got were useless. I want to use rpmdevtools to help with some packaging chores. There is no C5 version that I can find. I've located an SRC RPM in a location that is known to be C5 compatible. There are 2 versions of rpmdevtools:

Who''s using --format rdoc
I''m doing some housekeeping and just realised that the rdoc formatter produces gibberish: http://rspec.rubyforge.org/rdoc/files/EXAMPLES_rd.html Will anyone protest if I just go ahead and remove it? (I can''t imagine anyone using it, especially with the much better HTML formatter) Aslak

Using R in Java?
Hi 2 questions- 1. Is there a package that will allow me to run R scripts (entirely) from Java? 2. If so, is there a way to capture the output of those scripts, (including images) and embed them in my SWT java app? My challenge is I have a java app that does some statistical chores- it would be fantastic if the users could use their R skills to modify a script in whatever R environment they like

Running rake test:units yields DEPRECIATION WARNING: Disabling sessions for a single controller...
When I run my rake test:units I get the following: DEPRECATION WARNING: Disabling sessions for a single controller has been deprecated. Sessions are now lazy loaded. So if you don''t access them, consider them off. You can still modify the session cookie options with request.session_options.. Use virt-* tools from within container?
Hi, all. I've set up an LXC container for various Openstack admin chores, and now I'm being asked to have it used for importing qcow2 images -- on which we want to run utilities like virt-sparsify and virt-sysprep, first. Sadly, when I do that, it dies horribly, e.g., root@openstack-cli:/tmp# virt-sysprep -a cloud-image.qcow2 Examining the guest ... libguestfs: warning:

samba PDC & BDC
OK - I'm actually functioning but I'm afraid and I want to fill in a knowledge gap - perhaps a slight gap in the How-To Book or my ability to soak in its' wisdom. LDAP up and working on two machines, master & slave and changes made in master can be found by ldapsearch on slave faster than two up arrows and a return (gosh, it only took me 10 days but the light bulb has definitely

A housekeeping question...
Evening all: Stepping away from the stats methodology questions for a moment, I have a housekeeping question for when it comes time to make the jump to v2.7.2. I'm running v2.7.1 on an XP system. I have a suspicion that, by way of experimentation with a couple of shell choices along the way, I've left myself with a couple of unused stowaway libraries that I see no need to bring along

USB stick won't boot anymore
Hi all, This surely has nothing to do with syslinux, but since many people here ar eusing USB sticks as booting devices (using syslinux) this is a good place to ask, I think. I have an Apacer 1GB USB stick that was happily booting PCs using syslinux. But now, after some tests, it does not anymore. It does not even produce some kind of message from syslinux when booting. Nothing. The

smbclient Version 4.13.2 Crashes on Fedora 33
Have been working this on the BackupPC users and Fedora mailing lists, but it's looking more like a general problem in Samba utility, 'smbclient.' BackupPC is a backup server package that uses Samba, rsync, and other protocols to backup clients, including Windows PC's. Basically, it runs a command like this for a SMB backup of a PC: /usr/bin/smbclient \\\\new-pelican\\C\$ -U

trouble getting output from graphs, again
It seems like every time I try to do something a little different, I cannot get output saved just right. This is on RedHat 7.2 with R 1.4.1. The png output looks fine, but the eps output has the problem that the bounding box on the legend cuts the legend in half. I put a copy of a bad one here: http://lark.cc.ukans.edu/~pauljohn/ResearchPapers/meanProtest-box.eps When I asked about these
