feature request/change for 2.6.8
Wayne,
I've been experimenting with the {pre,post}-xfer exec options ever since the original diff showed up in patches/ - fantastic stuff.
My feature request/change centers around the new RSYNC_ARG# variables. Would it be possible to make these available as an array (ie: ${RSYNC_ARG[#]}) rather than discrete variables? If nothing else, it would greatly simplify chewing through all the args

server feature request. forced backup
Hello
I?m doing incremental backups with rsync to a remote server using
--backup --backup-dir.
I would like now to prevent the posibility that an intruder in the
backed-up machine could try to remove the original data and the remote
copy through the rsync service.
Seems to me that this could be done with a new server option
(--forced-options???) to force the --backup thing to be done, so

Cleanest way to find out if it was a --dry-run
Hi,
As far as I can see, the only way you can tell it's been a dry-run at the receiver-side, is to parse RSYNC_ARGs in the pre-xfer script.
I think the only way is to crawl through the RSYNC_ARGs to find a value which:
- starts with a single dash, and;
- contains 'n', and;
- comes prior to the "." value, signifying the start of the 'path args' (which seem inherently

Ugly patch to openssh-1.2pre15
Hi,
I am behind a firewall which does not permit connections to port 22, so I
run my ssh server on port 23. :-) Unfortunately, the stupid firewall
prints a few lines of junk when you make a connection to port 23 before
actually starting the connection. This confuses ssh.
Attached is an (ugly) patch against openssh-1.2pre15 which makes it ignore
a configurable number of lines while looking for

extractxml.rb
Hello again,
I''m noticing that many of the headers in swig/classes/include have the
comment:
// This file was automatically generated
// by extractxml.rb, part of the wxRuby project
// Do not make changes directly to this file!
Is this still the case, or was this just a one-time conversion? 228
out of 441 files in that directory don''t have the comment.
I ask this because

Big timeout time
Hi
I'm using rsync 3.0.3 on a NAS. In the parameter list I use --timeout=1800.
However sometimes I get very big timeout times like this one:
io timeout after 12220 seconds -- exiting
rsync error: timeout in data send/receive (code 30) at io.c(239) [sender=3.0.3pre1]
rsynd.conf on the receiving side only defines modules, no timing parameters.
How can that happen? What can I do to prevent

Loading a "sub-package"
Hi Folks,
The inspiration for this query is described below, but it
prompts a general question:
If one wants to use only one or a few functions from a library,
is there a way to load only these, without loading the library,
short of going into the package source and extracting what is
needed (including of course any auxiliary functions and compiled
code they may depend on)?
What prompted this

'Account disabled due to email bouncing' madness
We have a mail filter ( CanIt, by Roaring Penguin, see
http://www.roaringpenguin.com ) that is doing a very good job indeed of
blocking spam and viruses.
And I certainly get a lot from this list ... so much that without the
use of CanIt, I would have already had to retire my email address, and
possibly even our entire domain, to avoid the constant march of crap.
But ... the list server keeps

How to rsync PULL multiple files/dirs
Hi all,
I am wondering how do I pull data from a remote host without running a
daemon.
PUSH command
I would like the below statement be turned into a PULL from remote host
instead.
/usr/bin/rsync -e ssh --archive --sparse --compress --update --verbose
--stats --progress --exclude=cdersync.tar.gz --exclude=*.bz2
--exclude=*.jpg --exclude=*.mp3 --exclude=ZDE --exclude=*.rpm

I am not sure how this should be handled. I encountered it

might be enough to modify density() so that it

Shaping per IP in PPPoE
hi all.
i am currently now serving PPPoE in my area.
i had a script generated from tcng that worked perfectly before i
started serving PPPoE.
the issue is not in the script it self BUT in that "tc" code is not
shaping on the ethernet anymore BUT INSTEAD
on the pppX devices. I tested it and talking jargon, what should i do?
The issue is that for each PPPoE login, PPPoE-server

Sendmail vs. Postfix
Hah!!! This list is just too calm and mundane. The only thing we argue
about is the ''announce'' list vs. the ''user'' list. ;) So, it''s
springtime! I''m seeing all the regularly scheduled ''oil'' threads on my
motorcycle lists and thought "oh what the heck, lets get the ''oil''

Concept questions: Extra battery packs & additional UPSes...
* Is there a way to configure NUT so that it recognizes the huge
additional battery pack that has been attached to the 2200XL? The
51minutes runtime is a number consistent with the load we have placed on
a stock standalone 2200XL. With the extra large battery pack we've
added, the runtime should be more than 2.5 hours.
* I see the "Bizzare configuration" graphic on the
