osx 10.6 strange rsync errors
Hi All, I have been getting reports from users of backuplist+, my wrapper application for rsync (currently with build of 3.0.6), about odd behavior after updating to OS 10.6 Snow Leopard. Basically: the problem occurs backing up a directory to a local mounted network volume. Previously all worked fine but after updating to 10.6 there are reports that no files get copied and the destination fills

build on osx 10.6
Hi All, I've been off list for a while and just got around to building rsync 3.0.6 on Mac OSX 10.6 intel core 2 duo machine. It runs great on similar machines but someone just said it won't for their OSX 10.6 intel core duo and returns an error: rsync Bad CPU type in executable. I check the file and it says: rsync: Mach-O 64-bit executable x86_64 my older builds all

pre 1 OSX errors
Hi Wayne, Trying out 3.1 pre 1 on OSX 10.8.4 I like the new extended stats and the ir-chunk file numbers in log. Also getting a lot of errors and most copies not completing to local disk. rsync just stalls. Standard osx build: patch -p1 <patches/fileflags.diff patch -p1 <patches/crtimes.diff patch -p1 <patches/hfs-compression.diff ./configure make rsync --fileflags --force-change

3.0.8 OSX build hfs+ patch failing
Hi all, hi Mike, I am just building 3.0.8 on osx 10.6.6 and mike's hfs_compression.diff is failing. Am I missing something? Thanks, Rob patch -p1 <patches/fileflags.diff patch -p1 <patches/crtimes.diff patch -p1 <patches/crtimes-64bit.diff ( this says previously applied?) patch -p1 <patches/crtimes-hfs+.diff but for patch -p1 <patches/hfs_compression.diff patching file

OSX 10.6 and 64 bit rsync not preserving creation dates
Hi All, I don't know if this has been discussed here but creation dates are nto being preserved on OSX 10.6.1 in 64 bit mode. Rare of course, the folks that are using 64 but I am getting reports. I built in 64 with the usual crtimes and fileflags patches. Otherwise works like a dream and, in 64, is unbelievably Fast! Thanks, Rob

OSX 10.6.4 error with -R option
Hi All, I have had reports of problems with the -R option on OSX 10.6.4. Just tested it myself and found this odd result: When I run this "dtruss -f path/to/rsync -aHAXNR --fileflags --force-change --protect-decmpfs --stats -v /Users/astrid/Documents/main.m /Users/astrid/Desktop/rrr it produces the expected results with the relative folder paths in place

osx 10.6 strange rsync errors
Hi Rob / Wayne, Sorry for the slow reply Rob. I'm not sure of the requirements for patches, but I think it would be useful to create one for this case as there are reasonably number of people affected. I created a patch file against the current version (see below). Would it be possible to include this patch in the official list? Cheers Ira diff -Naur rsync-3.0.8_orig/receiver.c

osx 10.6 strange rsync errors
I've recently encountered this issue which was discussed here about a year ago. I'm not sure if anyone has a fix for this, but I thought I would post my workaround here. Since the topic is old, I'm summarising the problem .. basically it involves rsync creating large numbers of files with a leading ".." when syncing to an apple network share via afp. The essence of the

osx-create-time.diff
Hi All, I am new to the list. I have been using the Tiger rsync version in a small wrapper application for command line backup tools and am trying out the rsync-3.0.0pre4 release. Looks good so far. I just tried the patch osx-create-time.diff and it works! But when I tried to apply the two additional patch fixes I ran into problems and would appreciate any help there. The first patch

Install RPostgreSQL (Mac OSX 10.6)
Dear all, I'm an absolute R-beginner and want to connect to my PostgreSQL DB (on my local Mac OSX 10.6). 1) I tried to install RPostgreSQL (Package Installer > CRAN (sources)) and get this log below. There seems to be an issue with libpq, bug I don't have any clue how to fix this. What can I do? 2) Once this issue is solved, should this code work? drv <-

Dovecot 1.0.14 + osx 10.6 and authentication PAM
Howdy, Today I installed the new version of Apple OSX 10.6. Besides that it deleted the dovecot user, things went quite smooth. As far as I can tell it is running as it used to. However, I can't login to my account. It used to work fine with PAM taking the username and password from my osx installation. Now it doesn't allow me to login anymore. I have read on a website that apple

OSX universal rsync
Hi All, Well, we compiled pre9 on an intel Mac running Tiger and now it does work on the machine. I need to see if that will now work on a PPC mac though. Hopefully it will but I am wondering if there is a way to compile and make a universal binary rsync for the Mac that will run on both, from my PPC Mac. Itried that yesterday with patch -p1 <patches/flags.diff patch -p1

rsync and hfs+ compressed files damaged
Hi All, I have been using rysnc 3.0.6 with Mike's rsync_3.0.6-hfs-compression_20091027.diff patch (as well as the standard osx patches) with good results. I discovered that clones done on 10.6 using this rsync cause some executable files ( the ones that are mostly compressed this way on osx ) to be damaged. I did a test twice and indeed a handful of them are damaged. They all appear to be in

OSX 10.6 Clients on a 3.4.11 Server
Hello, I'm running Samba 3.4.11 on CentOS 5.2.. I Have some users at my company that have recently upgraded their macs to Snow Leopard 10.6.6 and are running in to some SMB issues. When they mount a share they can move, delete, copy folders just fine. If they open and close a file in one of those folders though, they cannot rename, delete, or move the folder because samba has it locked and

100% CPU using OSX client
Hi there, Normally happy OSX (10.6.4) user here. I am accessing a samba share on my Gentoo linux machine (i know, i know...) which is running samba-3.4.9 at the moment. When I try to copy files from a CD on my mac to the smb:// share, after every few files the transfer will pause for a few seconds, and during the pause the linux machine will use 100% cpu - the result is a very obvious

Installing a Tcl/Tk Extension on OSX
Dear R-Community, I need the Img tk extension for my R package. It all works on my Ubuntu machine (libtk-img). However I experience a great deal of trouble when I try to install the package on OSX 10.5 or 10.6 (in fact I'm not able to do it). As I understand it, the ActiveTcl with it's teacup package manager do not have an effect on the the x11 tcl installation which R accesses. MacPorts

[LLVMdev] OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard): strip: malformed object: clang malformed object (unknown load command 9)
I'm working on bringing up a buildbot in the LLVM lab that would run the GCC and GDB DejaGNU tests. The current problem I'm running into is shown here: http://lab.llvm.org:8011/builders/clang-x86_64-darwin10-gdb-gcc/builds/323/steps/install.clang.stage1/logs/stdio When the buildbot attempts to "make install" the system 'strip' binary fails while attempting to strip the

creation date and OSX
Hi, I've been using rsync (OSX Tiger now Leopard) to backup my home folder daily using -a -H -A -X link-dest=dir to make incremental backups. There was a problem though since many files especially images, movies etc would be recopied each time instead of creating hard links. I have been testing the pre5 release and found that it seems to make hard links correctly for all files. I
