rsync and hfs+ compressed files damaged
Hi All,
I have been using rysnc 3.0.6 with Mike's rsync_3.0.6-hfs-compression_20091027.diff patch (as well as the standard osx patches) with good results. I discovered that clones done on 10.6 using this rsync cause some executable files ( the ones that are mostly compressed this way on osx ) to be damaged.
I did a test twice and indeed a handful of them are damaged. They all appear to be in

OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) HFS+ File Compression
Are there any patches (or planned updates) to rsync v3.0.6 to handle
the HFS+ File Compression that Apple introduced with Snow Leopard?

pre 1 OSX errors
Hi Wayne,
Trying out 3.1 pre 1 on OSX 10.8.4
I like the new extended stats and the ir-chunk file numbers in log. Also getting a lot of errors and most copies not completing to local disk. rsync just stalls.
Standard osx build:
patch -p1 <patches/fileflags.diff
patch -p1 <patches/crtimes.diff
patch -p1 <patches/hfs-compression.diff
./configure

wrong transfer of app packages using --backup
Dear All,
I have been seeing some strange behavior using rsync 3.1.1 on OSX with the 3 standard patches applied when using the --backup and --backup-Dir options.
This works as expected on 3.0.9, moving any files on dest that are not on source to the backup folder. If no changes then the backup folder is not even created.

Mac OS X : "get_xattr_names: llistxattr("some/path/here", 1024) failed" error
Hi,
I'm trying to make a small script to get rid of Apple's TimeMachine. The aim is to backup the files of my company.
I setup a MacMini with a lot of storage attached to it. The MacMini connects every once in a while to our data server (XServe) through SSH and pulls the files that need to be saved (I'm using the --link-dest option to limit the amount of files transferred, and to keep

OSX universal rsync
Hi All,
Well, we compiled pre9 on an intel Mac running Tiger and now it
does work on the machine. I need to see if that will now work on a PPC
mac though. Hopefully it will but I am wondering if there is a way to
compile and make a universal binary rsync for the Mac that will run on
both, from my PPC Mac. Itried that yesterday with

delete not working with multiple source directories
Hello All,
I have lately heard from a couple of people that delete option was not deleting extraneous files on destination. This only happens when there are several source directories and at destination some show delete working and others not. I can not reproduce the issue so it is hard to pinpoint.
one example:
This is on OSX Mavericks running rsync 3.0.9 with the usual osx patches and

OSX 10.6.4 error with -R option
Hi All,
I have had reports of problems with the -R option on OSX 10.6.4.
Just tested it myself and found this odd result:
When I run this
"dtruss -f path/to/rsync -aHAXNR --fileflags --force-change --protect-decmpfs --stats -v /Users/astrid/Documents/main.m /Users/astrid/Desktop/rrr
it produces the expected results with the relative folder paths in place

How to exclude directories from getting their metadata updated? (Macintosh HFS+ with rsync 3.0.5)
Hello everyone!
FOREWORD:
I respect your time and resources, I hope to not bother people on this
mailinglist!
To my defense: This question is far easier towards humans than to
mailinglist and web search-engines as the search terms in relation to
each other are highly in-causal or paradoxical, and hence lead to poor
results. Of course the manpage was the first place where I looked

Fwd: rsync on OSX for transferring files using FAT32
Hi,
Which version of Mac OS X are you running? If you are on Mac OS 10.5.x
then I can only suggest that you try either formating the drive to HFS
+ or creating a disk image with an HFS+ file system.
If you are running Mac OS 10.4.x then ensure that that ACL support is
enabled on the drive. The following URL contains information on how to
check and enable ACL support :

centos8 / anaconda EFI regression / HFS+ ESP
Hi folks,
years ago I had no problem installing CentOS7 on my
iMac workstation (iMac Late 2015). The installation
worked out of the box. Today I wanted to upgrade to
CentOS8 and while configuring the partitions I get an
error that the installation can not start because:
"HFS+ ESP needed and mounted on /boot/efi". In fact
they are the same partition as for CentOS7. Is this
a regression

Mac OS X HFS+ metadata patch, take 2
Hi.
Several months ago, I posted my first pass at a patch to transfer
Mac OS X HFS+ metadata (resource forks and Finder metadata) to
non-HFS+ filesystems (Linux, Solaris, etc).
I finally got a chance to update the patch to reflect suggestions
offered on the list. Thanks for the ideas, this version should be
a big improvement.

workaround for HFS+'s case-insensitivity?
I am using Mike Rubel's snapshot-style rsync to do backups from my web
server (Linux) to my desktop (MacOS X). Mostly, this works great,
except where case sensitivity (or rather, HFS+'s semi-lack thereof)
causes problems.
Specifically, it seems impossible to successfully back up my Linux box's
/usr/share/terminfo, as it contains directories that differ ONLY in
case (e.g.,

another iconv question
Hi All,
I am trying to help my friend set up his rsync with iconv. Presently
it works fine but re-copies every file with an umlaute in the
filename. I saw a recent post about this and the fix but...
he ran "locale" ( both source and dest are on same machine) and is

rsync support of hfs+ (osx) metadata? solution from Apple ... ?
hi,
it seems there's a more-recent solution, referenced here:
http://www.lartmaker.nl/rsync/
that points out:
"Since OS X 10.4 (aka Tiger) the MacOS ships with a modified
version of rsync. An added option, -E, enables the transfer of
extended attributes."

Is my case really because of the >2TB volume?

supporting HFS+ attributes and forks on a Linux rsync server?
I'm trying to use rsync to back up a Mac OS X machine to a Linux server.
I've used the instructions at http://www.bombich.com/mactips/rsync.html
to patch and install rsync 3.0.2 to support HFS+ attributes and forks on
the client. I was assuming the Linux box needed the same version, and so
tried compiling the patched rsync but got the following:

questions about extended attributes support across *nix & osx (hfs+) filesys

on osx, it's v2.6.3 w/ both apple's "Extended Attributes" patches:
