user not in group
I recently replaced a samba server with a new machine. Version 3.0.14 was used on the old server and is used on the new server as well. I copied all of the configuration files using rsync from the old server to the new server. Now I have one user that cannot access a share on the new server, but that could be accessed on the old server. After much troubleshooting I have isolated the problem to

the difference between temp and .temp
Hi everyone - This came up within the last day -- Jim's response to Deepankar is pasted below. There are probably lots of reasons, but what is the advantage to using .temp over, say, temp? I often find myself writing temporary objects -- should I use the . preface? What would be the advantages to doing so? Thanks in advance for what will surely be a collection of illuminating responses.

session temp files?
I''m running a simple WEBrick server for a small rails website. I probably get less than 100 hits per hour. I just looked in /tmp on the server and there are over 10,000 ruby_sess.* temp files containing: " hash{" flashIC:''ActionController::Flash::FlashHash{: @used{ They''ve piled up so much that I can''t even rm -f ruby*. Bash complains

Windows app can't clean up temp files
A couple of my users use Solidworks which creates temp files that look like ~$drawing_name.sldrw in the directory that they?re opened in. I?ve changed permissions till I?m blue in the face and can not get this program to clean up it?s temp files. Whenever a user goes back into a drawing they get permission denied on the temp files. This problem does not happen when the files are hosted on a

Fonts generated and read form temp dir
Hi, I'm one of the user of this app (http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=4154&mode=nested#Comment-13738). Users noticed that the soft generates (or extracts) fonts and uses them on the fly from a temp directory. Is there any way for wine to handle this type of behaviour ? Thanks. Dripple.

cl : Command line error D8037 : cannot create temporary il file; clean temp directory of old il files
I installed VS Express and included the IDE in $LIB. It looks like wine is able to run 'cl.exe' but 'cl.exe' itself has a problem. We've tried a number of variations of setting %TMP% and %TEMP% to no avail. Any ideas. TIA.

Changing temp Dir: /var/tmp
Hi, LLVM will look for the following environment variables to be set, and if not it will use /var/tmp: TMPDIR, TMP, TEMP, TEMPDIR You should be able to override its behaviour by setting one of those. Temp folder growing out of control
I'm using Wine 1.1.15 on Intrepid and when checking my disk space I noticed my temp folder in Wine (~/.wine/drive_c/windows/temp) was 2.5GB. This reminded me that previously I noticed it was not getting cleaned out and was excessively big before as well (earlier versions of Wine, so not specific to this version/build). Have others noticed this? Do I report this as a Wine bug? or investigate

C:\users\[me]\Temp\file.tmp cannot be opened
I have been trying to install Nobeltec4, an oldish windows chart navigation system, and the installer keeps stopping with the message, "the file C:\users\bill\Temp\GLF8e4.tmp could not be opened..." and suggests I check for permissions and space, etc. I have seen the documentation on that and I really do have permissions and plenty of space. I go and browse the C drive under wine (v

Error writing temporary file. Make sure your temp folder is valid.
"Error writing temporary file. Make sure your temp folder is valid." Can someone help out with this one? I have been trying to figure it out all day :( I have installed from the newest RPM for SuSE 9.1, and get the above as any user. I suspect there is something to be changed in the config file, but I have no idea where to start. Thanks All,

Changing wine's windows\temp directory?
Hello all, I'm trying to install Paradox 7 under wine. On wine 0.9.22 the setup screen blocked the whole desktop, with possible dialog windows underneath it; I have no idea how to get around that, but there's a newer version of wine out, so I tried that instead. On wine 0.9.26 I get a popup error message that says: Internal Error: -4. You need at least 1144 KB to copy the
