v3.0.4 OS X Execution Errors
Hello, I have compiled v3.0.4 of rsync per http://www.bombich.com/mactips/rsync.html. Unfortunately, I can't get rsync v3.0.4 to work properly. If I execute this command on the target Mac, I receive this error. sudo rsync -An --progress --log-file=docs_transfer server.domain.com:/Volumes/File_Storage/docs /Volumes/File_Storage rsync: on remote machine: -vnpAe.Ls: unknown option rsync

Macintosh rsync: Inconsistent Behaviour: Hints Appreciated
I have a problem with rsync on macintosh copying files that have not been updated. Despite careful reading of the archives, I can't find an explanation (or a fix), but I strongly suspect I'm just missing something that an expert will recognise instantly... Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. I'm running a nightly backup of my photo/home video directory from a partition

Error messages 3.0.6pre1
I compiled 3.0.6pre1, including the crtimes and fileflags patches for use on Intel OS X 10.5.6, as described by Mr. Bombich (thanks!) here: <http://www.bombich.com/mactips/rsync.html> I want to use 3.0.6 because it seems that this bug: <https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5365> has been resolved (yay!). ----- [~]$ rsync --version rsync version 3.0.6pre1 protocol version 30

supporting HFS+ attributes and forks on a Linux rsync server?
I'm trying to use rsync to back up a Mac OS X machine to a Linux server. I've used the instructions at http://www.bombich.com/mactips/rsync.html to patch and install rsync 3.0.2 to support HFS+ attributes and forks on the client. I was assuming the Linux box needed the same version, and so tried compiling the patched rsync but got the following: syscall.c: In function

Mac OS X "rsync: unpack_smb_acl: sys_acl_get_info(): Unknown error: 0 (0)"
I am a developer on the LBackup project. An LBackup user recently posted a question to the mailing list asking about the following error. > "rsync: unpack_smb_acl: sys_acl_get_info(): Unknown error: 0 (0)" Link to thread : <http://www.mail-archive.com/lbackup-discussion at lists.connect.homeunix.com/msg00040.html> My understanding of this error is that when copying files via

Making rsync compile under Mac OS X 10.3.9 with extended attributes
Somebody knows if it's possible to compile rsync (version 3 would be great, but can be 2.6.x) under Mac OS X 10.3.9 with extended attributes? Under OS 10.3.9 the Apple shipped rsync have not yet the -E argument option. RsyncX have a double free bug that is annoying. "Q" rsync 2.6.6 with extended attributes binary only works on 10.4 and above. I have tried to compile rsync

rsync via ssh script
Hi, does anybody know, how a bash shell script looks, which automatically enters the ssh password? the rsync call should be: rsync -avz -e ssh /home/johndoe/data/repository billythegate@192.168.10.102:/home/johndoe/junk the call causes a password question. Is ist possible to automate that by a cron? If yes how should the script look to automatically enter the password? ThanX for an answer.

Rsync with OS X 10.3
Hi Jason, Here's rsync10.3xattr_supportv0.6.diff. You can find fileflags.diff and crtimes.diff (that are not from me, but I strongly recommend you to install) here: http://samba.anu.edu.au/ftp/rsync/src/rsync-patches-3.0.5.tar.gz As you could see in the mail from the mail-list, this version have a bug with filenames containing slashes ("/"). They are converted to colons

Patches for OS X.
What patch files are necessary to build rsync-3.0.9 for OS X 10.6.8 (Darwin 10.8.0)? Mr. Bombich maintains an excellent page about this, but it's a bit out of date, methinks, and his instructions point to patch files that return some interesting errors. My rsync-3.0.9 is working just fine, btw, with the fileflags and crtimes and hfs-compression patches applied; I just wondered if the others

OS X and rsync: unpack_smb_acl errors and --numeric-ids
First of all. Thank you rsync developers and maintainers for all of your work. It is awesome. I love rsync. I can't thank you enough. So this has been brought up before: https://lists.samba.org/archive/rsync/2010-April/024941.html We are getting this error: stderr: rsync: unpack_smb_acl: sys_acl_get_info(): Undefined error: 0 (0) due to ACL entries that can not be resolved by name at

installing rsync-3-0-5 on a Mac
Hi - is "rsync --version" reporting the wrong version number, or am I to stupid to properly install rsync-3-0-5 on a Mac? Here is what I did: download and extract rsync-3-0-5 (btw: why is there an extra patches folder?) in Terminal I ran: ./configure, make, sudo make install There was no error message, and the old /usr/local/bin/rsync was replaced. When I now issue "rsync

Rsync 3.0.3 with patches on OS X 10.4.11 fails to copy ACLs
I am using rsync 3.0.3 to copy a remote RAID volume on one Xserve to the local RAID volume on an other Xserve. Both Xserves are running OS X Server 10.4.11. I have compiled rsync 3.0.3 on both machines and patched it following Mike Bombich's instructions at http://www.bombich.com/mactips/rsync.html After some struggles, and with invaluable help from the list, I how have an rsync script running

Rsync 3.0.3 with patches on OS X 10.4.11 fails to copy ACLs
Check that ACL's are enabled on the destination volume. Details on how to do this are available from the following URL : http://connect.homeunix.com/lbackup/doku.php?id=access_control_lists Hope this helps. > I am using rsync 3.0.3 to copy a remote RAID volume on one Xserve to > the > local RAID volume on an other Xserve. [LLVMdev] Hello World assembly without clib "puts"?

I want to learn assembly, but I want my knowledge and code to carry over no matter which operating system I'm using. I regularly use Windows, Mac, and Linux, and I don't want to have to rewrite my

Does rsync 2.6.9 works for resource forks in Mac OS X
HI All, I'm new to this rsync world. Please bear with me if it looks odd. I've downloaded the rsync 2.6.9 version and using it to perform backup to my server. WARNING: . . . .failed verification -- update discarded (will try again).
A nightly scripted rsync backup job is giving me this error WARNING: vm/escDebLenny14G-flat.vmdk failed verification -- update discarded (will try again). I've searched the web and I think probably the problem is the source file changed during the copy. However, I haven't seen any explanations for the "will try again" part. Does it try again immediately? If so, does a

[LLVMdev] Hello World assembly without clib "puts"?
On 30 Sep 2012, at 01:05, Andrew Pennebaker wrote: > Can Hello World be written in LLVM assembly without using a C library function like "puts"? LLVM IR models a general-purpose unprivileged CPU instruction set and so lacks anything to do I/O. If you want to interact with anything beyond the CPU and stack, you must either call a library function, issue a system call, or modify some

Why is my rsync transfer slow?
Just chiming in here, I haven’t read all the previous posts so may be repeating… Mike Bombich has a good piece on benchmarks for various source/destination scenarios with rsync. https://bombich.com/kb/ccc3/how-long-should-clone-or-backup-take Note that copying to sparsebundle on local media is as fast as to local disk. Sparsebundle is a mac filesystem whereas NAS is not so certain file
