rsync local performance
Wayne,
Transferring an 8gb file using rsync between a network (10GbE) mounted filesystem and local disk.
rsync-2.6.9 - 88-95 MB/sec
rsync-3.0.6 - 62-72 MB/sec
rsync-3.1.0 - 86-90 MB/sec
Doing a cp of the file yields 140-160MB/sec.
It appears the IO code improvements in 3.1 have definitely made a difference over the 3.0 code base.

VM: Unable to enable scatter-gather / tx-checksumming / tcp-segmentation offload
In my Linux VM, I am unable to change scatter-gather / tx-checksumming /
TCP-segmentation offload features by ethtool command. I am using virtio nic
with vhostuser port backend.
It shows me an error:
Cannot change tx-checksumming
Cannot change scatter-gather
Cannot change tcp-segmentation offload
Could not change any device features
Ony running command ethtool -k ens3, I get the following:

Virtio-net, ethtool and rx-checksumming
Hi all,
when running "ethtool -k ethX" on a virtio-net device, it always
reports "rx-checksumming: off" with recent kernels. With older kernels
(e.g. 2.6.32), it used to report "on" instead, so this difference
caused some confusion here ("do newer guest kernels have to compute the
RX checksums now? That's certainly a bug / performance problem ...").

Checksumming problem in pv_ops dom0 kernel / netback
Hello,
I seem to be having some troubles regarding the latest 2.6.31.6 and 2.6.32.9 Xen dom0 pv_ops trees.
Our platform:
-Xen 3.4.3-rc3 (also tried 3.4.2 on 2.6.31.6 pv_ops dom0)
-2.6.32.9 pv_ops dom0 kernel, perhaps a week old checkout from xen/stable git (can provide changeset if requested).
-100+ domU''s, all PV.
Ever since we switched to a pv_ops dom0 kernel (we were using 2.6.26

What does this warning message (from optim function) mean?
Hi R users,
I am trying to use the optim function to maximize a likelihood funciton, and
I got the following warning messages.
Could anyone explain to me what messege 31 means exactly? Is it a cause for
concern?
Since the value of convergence turns out to be zero, it means that the
converging is successful, right?
So can I assume that the parameter estimates generated thereafter are
reliable MLE

na.omit - Is it working properly?
I have a work around for this, but can someone explain why the first example does not work properly? I believed it worked in the previous version of R, by selecting just the rows=200525 and omitting the na's. I just upgraded to 2.13. I am also concern with the row numbers being different in the selections, should I be worried? FYI, I just selected the first few rows for demonstration, please

CentOS 5 dual head doesn't work
I just bit the bullet and installed CentOS 5 on my work desktop, and
although I have two monitors and a card that supports them, I cannot
get the display configuration to work with both as a continuous
(spanning) desktop. I have tried using the correct (autodetected)
monitor type (digital and analog), a generic LCD with 1280x1024,
nothing works. Every time I set the configuration, the X server

Extract values from a named array
Sorry for this dumb question. Suppose I have a named array ww defined as
ww <- 1:5
names(ww) <- c("a", "b", "c", "d", "e")
How can I extract the whole array of numbers without the names?
ww[1:5] does not work while ww[[1]] can only extract one number at a
time.
Thanks,
Gang

Nvidia maximum pixel clock issue in kmod-nvidia-384.98
Hi everyone,
On CentOS 7 I'm running into an issue with the latest nvidia driver
from elrepo: kmod-nvidia-384.98-1.el7_4.elrepo.x86_64
This driver version seem to introduce issue in detecting video modes
when a monitor is connected using DVI. As soon as the machine attempts
to start X, nothing happens and the monitor goes into sleep mode
reporting that it has 'no signal'.

help with x config on centos 5.1
Hi all,
Typically I dont have issues with configuring X. However this time its
an issue.
I have an NVIDIA graphics card trying to do 1920x1080.
If I configure the screen by hand with the nvidia config utility it
works at 1920x1080.
However when I reboot its 800x600. When I use the nvidia config utility to
set 1920x1080 then save the xorg.conf file, and reboot (yes I copied

Dial Command Reference for SIP channel
Hi all. I was reading a sample config someone had posted relating to
call forwarding, and in it, they use a Dial command with components that
I cannot find any reference to.
Can someone point me to a reference which could explain the difference
between Dial(SIP/100|20|Ttr,,wW) and Dial(SIP/100,,wW)
Specifically, what is the |20|Ttr ? I cannot seem to find any reference
which would indicate

Sparse covariance estimation (via glasso) shrinking to a "nonzero" constant
I've only been using R on and off for 9 months and started using the
glasso package for sparse covariance estimation. I know the concept is
to shrink some of the elements of the covariance matrix to zero.
However, say I have a dataset that I know has some underlying
"baseline" covariance/correlation (say, a value of 0.3), how can I
change or incorporate that into to the

Intel i7-940, DX58S0 motherboard, Radeon X1950 Pro video card
This computer is my main desktop machine --- an Intel i7-940 CPU and DX58S0
motherboard with a Radeon X1950 Pro video card. It's currently running Fedora 11
and working just fine.
However, I have been slowly moving all of my "computer stuff" off of Fedora
and onto Centos, and this (and my Acer Aspire One laptop) are the only Fedora
installations that I now have left.
Does anyone

How to pass a string as an argument to a function?
I want to pass a predefined string ww ("fa*fb+fc") to function lme so
that I can run

I've tried something like

and

but both give me the following error:

bwplot questions: box order, axis breaks, and multiple y-axis labels
Hi all,
I used bwplot in lattice to create a 6-panel boxplot grouped by a
conditioning variable (param) that displays concentration (conc) in
response to treatment (trtmnt). Here is the functional part of my
code followed by my three questions:
library(lattice);
ww<-read.csv(file="c:/Rdata/lattice_boxplot_prep.csv",header=TRUE,sep=",");
attach(ww);

synaptics problem
Hi,
I've recently installed FreeBSD 6.3, and I've got a problem with
synaptics.
I've installed it, followed the pkg-message :
hw.psm.synaptics_support=1
It works, dmesg gives :
psm0: <PS/2 Mouse> irq 12 on atkbdc0
psm0: [GIANT-LOCKED]
psm0: model Synaptics Touchpad, device ID 0
moused_enable="NO"
ps shows me that moused doesn't run.
