rsync speedup - how ?
Hello,
i`m using rsync to sync large virtual machine files from one esx server to another.
rsync is running inside the so called "esx console" which is basically a specially crafted linux vm with some restrictions.
the speed is "reasonable", but i guess it`s not the optimum - at least i don?t know where the bottleneck is.
i`m not using ssh as transport but run rsync in

Problems with lqs()
Dear List-Members,
I have a problem with the function lqs() from package MASS. In some cases it produces different results for the same settings and needs a random seed to be set, in other cases not.
I really cannot understand, why this happens. As well I do not understand what exactly you need the random seed for. Is it a starting point for iterations? Or do different results occur because of

Creating a paravirtualized guest with Xen 3.4.1 and Centos 5.3 (64bit)
Hi,
I have a set of 32bit HVM images running fine under Xen 3.2.1 and Xen 3.4.1. Due to performance issues with the fully virtualized setup, I would like to migrate one of those images to a paravirtualized image to compare the network performance. As I do not have a Xen-aware kernel for that VM, I thought the best would be to provide one from outside.
Sounds like an easy task, doesn''t

Negbin Error Warnings
Hi,
I ran a negative binomial regression (NBR) using the Zelig-package and the negbin model.
When I then try to use the simumlation approach using the setx () and sim() functions to calculate expected values
and first difference for different levels of one of my independent variables, I get 50 errors warnings, telling me that the calculation rpois produced NAs. However, the data I use

High CPU usage
Hi Jean-Marc,
I tried to add VERY_SMALL at the input of the encoder, but that did not change much.
Here's a list of source code locations where denormals appear for the first time as calculation results.
This list is based on a 4 minutes recording of ambient sound that is passed to speexenc 1.2rc1 with the command line
--narrowband --denoise --agc --abr 15000

Hi Jozsef,
this approach sounds interesting.
Do have you have some source code available ?
Thanks

Can the hole, fixed in latest libvorbis version, be triggered via webradio?
Hello,
I'm talking about the following hole:
http://web.nvd.nist.gov/view/vuln/detail?vulnId=CVE-2009-2663
In Slackware 12.2, so far, the current libvorbis version is still 1.2.0.
My question is: I don't use ".OGG" files, but I regularly listen to a OGG webstream. Am I secure in this situation or could a corrupted webstream trigger the discussed bug?
Thanks in advance
Yours

Printers inaccesible
Hello;
I have a strange situation.
About a year ago we upgraded to samba-3.0.10 from samba-2.28a and joined
the samba server to an AD domain as a member server. The migration went
smooth. Everything fell in place just right -- until a few weeks ago that
is.
A few weeks ago we aquired a new plotter, and while setting it up to be
used, we encountered the first problem. We were not able

Using outer with function predict
Hey everybody,
I have a problem with the combination of the commands outer() and predict(). I want to visualize the solutions of a regression modell in a matrix. Therefore I want to use the command predict for a linear modell as the function inside the command outer. I've made a small example:
x = 1:10
y = 11:20
z = rnorm(10)
lm.1 = lm(z ~ x*y)

Samba(3.2.12 and 3.4.0) - Winbind - trusted domains - Problem!
Good Morning!
We got in some troubles using trusted domains and winbind. First i will tell you something about the network and samba configuration.
For our SMB Environment we use Samba 3.2.12. We have three trusted domains. Our Samba Server uses LDAP as Backend. Most of the time it worked nice, but after some time Winbind loses User Entrys. On the windows side i can see "unknown user

lmomRFA-package: regsimq()
Hi List!
I?m using regsimq() from the ?lmomRFA?-package to calculate error bounds for diverse distributions. For example:
regsimq(gumfit$qfunc, nrec = lmom.data$n, f = lcdfgum, boundprob = c(0.025, 0.975))
Several times I got this error massage:
Fehler in quantile.default(ou, probs = boundprob, type = 6) :
missing values and NaN's not allowed if 'na.rm' is FALSE
So my question

Hi Jean-Marc,
I recompiled with FIXED_POINT and CPU utilization stays below 4%. This is a great improvement.
So how can I fix this to work with floating point ?
Thanks.

Hi Jean-Marc,
do you have any other ideas what to look for? Or do you currently debug yourself? As I already wrote, I'm out of ideas...

Flat Rate Long Distance Providers
We are looking for a flatrate long distance provider to integrte with a
hosted Asterisk implementation. I would like to have a SIP/IAX handoff to
whatever carrier. We want the ability to turn LD to any of our subscribers
for a flat rate as well. This request is for USA only. Int'l would be a
per minute basis.
Any sugggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
