daemon mode - local to server sync failing
I have an rsync server running on nodeA and a client, nodeB. I am attempting to do a sync/copy from the local machine, nodeB, to the rsync server, nodeA. The following line from the rsync man page makes it look like this is relatively simple: for copying from the local machine to a remote rsync server. This is invoked when the destination path contains a :: separator or a rsync:// URL. I have

Wanting to run a UNIX command on Windows shared files
Hi everybody, I posted the following on 'comp.protocols.smb' newsgroup but got no answer. I'm now trying this way. On one side, I have a Solaris 7 box running Samba 2.2.0 and on the other, a W2K machine sharing to everyone in full access mode the contents of its C:\Public directory. Is there a way to run a UNIX script or command on this Windows share? I tried using

How to speed up rsync when haveing lots of files
Hello List, unfortunatelly rsync is beeing REALLY slow and produces a high load when we try to sync lots of files (>250 000 small files). My experience is, that this is fatser if i do it folder by folder. Is there a rsync option which reduces the load and speeds up the rsync somehow? Thanks, Mario

Textmate RSpec Bundle ''it'' snippet
It seems to me that the RSpec bundle''s ''it'' snippet is in need of some love. By default, a newly inserted spec passes. This seems odd as it is misleading. It also makes it harder find what specs still need to be completed if you return to an RSpec module after a break. I propose that the ''it'' snippet is changed to the following: it

I've setup rsync 3.0.0 pre5 on distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr (rsync server) and upload the same into mandriva cooker (development distribution). Someone reported this failure: rsync -auvPH --delete --exclude-from="/home/rfox/exclude.txt" distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr::mandrivalinux/devel/cooker/i586/ . receiving incremental file list rsync: hlink.c:253: check_prior: Assertion

rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (0 bytes received so far)
Please forgive my digging up a two year old thread, but I've got the same problem, but the pointers there give no help. This is using versions 3.0.6 (server) and 3.0.7 (client). Unfortunately, I have to type the client stuff in by hand. ("Secured" laptop with highlighting & copying disabled.) Anyway: $ rsync -vvvvvv -a -e ssh --recursive gdoc rsync-acct at 99.99.99.99::doc

remote rsync process dies, local hangs
I've got an rsync job which is consistently failing, but I've been unable to diagnose the problem. FAQ/Google/docs/etc. checked and no luck. Basically, it looks like the rsync process invoked on the far end is exiting, and then the local process waits until the timeout and exits. Both systems are Sun boxes, Ultra 10 or better with 256+ MB of memory. Rsync version is 2.5.0 on the local

core show channels verbose output
At the end of the output for "core show channels verbose" is a line that reads "4 active calls". Does anyone know how that number is formatted if there are more than 999 active calls? Will it have a comma or not? -- Mitch
