--backup-dir-dels=DIR patch
Hi All, I think I am missing something with the backup-dir-dels.diff patch. How does that differ from the original --backup -backup-dir=DIR option? Using the original one works fine (on patched or non-patched rsync), putting deleted source files into the DIR on destination, but when I run --backup -backup-dir-dels=DIR, nothing happens to the deleted files. Xp Home hack + Domain join
Hello fellows, Does anyone of you has found the hack to permit win xp home edition to join a domain controller. I found somewhere on the net a software that does this. But it cost 145 $ US, so like the upgrade... ( the only difference in that i will not give the money to Bill Gates) My problem is with the password modification. Every times someone does change his password, he has to go onto the

Request to include delete-dir-and-suffix patch in rsync-2.6.4
The delete-dir-and-suffix patch creates two new command line options as follows: --delete-dir --delete-suffix The delete-dir and delete-suffix options give the ability to store backup of deleted files on the receiver in different directories or with different suffix than the backup of files that have been changed but that are still on the source drive. Both commands can be

--backup-dir-dels breaks compatibility
I wrote a script that uses rsync a bit and wanted to use it. While testing was fine, the real life was more complicated :) Basically, my rsync command looks like that: rsync -v -azu -b --backup-dir /var/backup/files/ /var/profiles/files/ username@host:/ When I execute it where both machines have rsync 2.6.3, everything runs fine. When I execute it on a machine with rsync 2.6.6, and the remote

Subject: Samba and Seagate BackupExec
Hi Franck, to my knowledge, the Backup Exec service "runs" under a certain user. In most cases it is the user who installed it, so very often "Administrator". Now if you try to backup a Samba share, Backup Exec tries to retrieve the files of this share and has to authenticate to the Samba Server. I suspect it will do this with the "credentials" of the user the Backup

Xen and SAN : snapshot XOR live-migration ?
Please tell me if I am wrong : Xen needs LVM to perform domU snapshots and snapshots must be performed by dom0. By the way, a LVM volume group should not be used by more that one kernel at the same time. So if we use a SAN storage, one volume group should be activated on only one server and deactivated on the others. But if we do that, it should not be possible to perform live migration of

copy file upon --delete possible?
Hi all, I have a particular request: I was asked whether when --delete is specified on the client, the daemon can, instead of delete the file, move it to a "trash" directory. The path of the latter may be hardcoded and it is not important to retain info about original path etc.. Not sure whether --backup or some similar option can do this just for deleted files... I was looking

S4 file server : access to large file > 1 GB
Hi all My S4 is configured as a file server. The AD DC is a 2003 win server. My users are talking about slow speed on open pst file or other largest file. I have this in my smb.conf socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=32768 SO_SNDBUF=32768 I tranfer a 3GB file on the server and I see variations in speed transfer. Generally it cost 28% of my bandwith (1 Gb/s) but, after a while, it

Samba and Seagate BackupExec
Hi, I've got Samba 2.0.2 on a Linux Red Hat 5.2 and a server NT4 SP3 with Seagate BackupExec 7.0. When I want to backup Samba with Seagate BackupExec, I get a message saying "Unable to connect to server, <F5> to retry", and then another one saying "A device specific error occured". I've read all the Samba archive about that subject, but I do not find any

S4 Classes and Initialize methods
Hello, I am trying to improve my skill on S4 classes. But there's something strange (to me) happening with "initialize" methods. This is probably a normal behaviour... but... something is unclear in my mind I declare two classes, namely "A", and "B", which has a slot of type A. The class "A" has an initialize method. What I do not understand is that
