frequency of subsequent events
Hello, The example shows a sequence of songtypes a bird has sang. The entire list contains several thousand songs which the bird has produced consecutively. Is there any convenient way in R to produce a contingency table which shows how often a special song type was sang after a special other songtype? Or within a determined frame of e.g. 10 consecutively produced songs? Example: Nr Songtype 1

Terminology: Multiple Regression versus multivariate Regression
Hello R-Members, can anyone explain the difference between multiple and multivariate regression to me in terms of the terminology and eventually its respect to the mathematical foundation respectively ? Is multiple regression perhaps more related to GLM and multivariate Regression rather applied, if there are no explizit numeric factor levels ? Thanks for elucidations on that topic. Many

How to generate a list of lists recursively (for bayesm)
Dear all, I need to generate a list of lists as required by the bayesm-package. This means in my application that I have to generate a list which consists of 2000 elements, which are lists themselves: list(list(y1,X1),...,list(y2000,X2000)). The y are vectors and the X are matrices of different dimensions. I tried to solve this problem iteratively by the following code, but received an error

RWeka
Hi, I downloaded RWeka successfully. (At least I do not see, where I could have made a mistake.) Then I tried to load it by the library-command. To my surprise this did not work. Result: library(RWeka) Fehler in .jinit(c(system.file("jar", "weka.jar", package = "RWeka"), system.file("jar", : Cannot create Java Virtual Machine Fehler: .onLoad in

Problems with Samba - Domain not reachable
I'm very despaired. Trying to join a Domain I also get an error: "Domain not reachable". But to my mind the samba-configuration is ok. The logs give no hint to an error. testparm smb.conf works fine. I created a shortcut to logon on server, that works. (via ip and via name). But i cannot join the domain. Does anyone has an advice, where the problem could be? To my mind it is a

screensavers in general
Hi, I tried some windows screensavers with Wine. Most screensavers start with the configuration screen without a possibility to start the main screensaver part. It's the same thing when I rename a screensaver file from 'somewhat.scr' to 'somewhat.exe' and try to run it with a doubleclick on my Windows 2000 PC. (*.scr: the screensaver starts, *.exe: the configuration screen

How can one use R-code and R-functions within C-Code?
Dear everyone, the following problem: Our group has written a lengthy program in c++, to which we would like to add some additional features. Because we are not sure if those features are actually useful, we would prefer to take a "quick and dirty" approach just to try them out. The additional feature is that in every iteration of the algorithm membership-probabilities should by

Restricted SFTP
As I have mentioned earlier on this list, I want to allow (relitivly) untrusted local users to SFTP to my server, as a secure method of remote file access. What I would like to do is to keep users within their home directory. I don't mind that it follows symlinks (if fact its probably a requirement), but some basic restriction on what users can see/access would be handy. The check I

Hi everyone. I have a problem at my company where i want a linux box to authenticate at our companies W2k-Server and offer some user home direcories as shares to the windows-network. Unfortunately when the winbind daemon is running the

We're using rsync 2.5.6 version 26. Want to synch two W2K directories which are not on my machine (machine1 synchs machine2 -> machine3) I would like to synch the 2 direcories with the following syntax: rsync.exe -rva //remote_server1/share$/dir1/default.asp remote_server2::dir2/ When I try this it seems to work: building file list ... 1 file to consider send_files failed to open

smbfs patch - listing large direcories from an OS/2 server
Hi! Here's a patch that allows Linux smbfs to list large directories (i.e. > 100 items) when talking to an OS/2 server. There is a misunderstanding about the flags sent in the FINDFIRST request which causes the OS/2 server to indicate an EOS (end of search) in the FINDFIRST response, even when there are more items to be listed. The result is that smbfs will display only the first ~120
