how to take least risk on rsync dir
Hello list,
When rsync dir_A to dir_B, I hope I wont make any change to the original
dir_B unless the rsync procedure end withour errors, therefore, I hope
there's somethig like
rsync -av dir_A dir_B_tmp && \
mv dir_B dir_B.bkup &&
mv dir_B_tmp dir_B
This small script can ensure the minimal change time between 2 versions
of archive. Is this built in the native rsync

functionality to rsync from dir to dir(gzip)
Dear all
is it possible to rsync in a master-slave scenario saving to slave gzip
content?
i'm not talking about compression during transfer, i'm talking about
-saving- the destination in a compressed format.
Example:
FROM:
-folder_A
--file_A
--file_B
TO:
-folder_A
--file_A.gz
--file_B.gz
I know that this won't be a "real" rsync between two folder, but it will be

rsync file sync by priority
Hello All -
I'm looking for a switch(es) to ensure rsync indexes the pull of files from
remotedir, LIFO (last in first out) and then by .ext type where file basenames
are similar.
example)
file_a.xml ctime of 09:01:07
file_a.jar ctime of 09:01:02
get transfered before
file_b.xml ctime of 09:01:45
file_b.jar ctime of 09:01:45
and the .xml of basename $file would always be transferred

recursive scp fails on ReliantUNIX 5.43 (using OpenSSH 3.4p1)
Hi,
I have tried to make a recursive scp from a ReliantUNIX machine to an other UNIX machine and got an infinite loop on the source machine.
A "normal" scp works well.
Also strange is, that the first two letters of the directory respectively file name are missing in the output below.
The destination machine produces a directory structure with growing subdirectory names.
Below you can

[LLVMdev] function inlining threshold ?
I am using llvm for source-to-source inlining. So I did:
% llvm-gcc file_a.c file_b.c ... file_n.c -o file
% opt -inline -inline-threshold=1000 < file.bc | llc -march=c > outfile.c
Can anyone tell me how llvm determines if a function should be inlined,
and what roll does "inline-threshold" play ? (Does the example mean that
if the function body has fewer than 1000 instructions,

Simple whole volume copy
I have a volume at 192.168.0.2 on my local network. I'd like to rsync the
entire volume to a backup volume, skip all files already present on the
backup volume (same name and the same or earlier timestamp), and include all
flags, dates, etc. as applicable to Mac OS X 10.6.x.
Can someone tell me the proper command to do this.

fileflags, hardlinks and FreeBSD
I have an rsync daemon running on a FreeBSD 7.3 system. It is running
rsync 3.0.4 with fileflags enabled. I have the following six files on it
which are all hardlinks and have the immutable flag set:

patch: --force-change for hard links
Hi All!
rsync-3.0.6 with fileflags.diff under FreeBSD 8.0-RC1: if there is a file
with uchg or schg flag in source directory and it's hard-linked (usual
case for /usr/bin), then rsync cannot create the link in destination
directory. Error message: rsync: link "/tmp/s/a" => b failed: Operation
not permitted (1)
The problem is that it's not allowed to link a *chg'ed file.

Problem delivering files
Hello samba people
I do not know if it is a bug, but a problem indeed:
we have a Sun running solaris 2.7 samba 2.0.6)
and NT clients AND a HSM Filesystem called samfs.
This keeps data on tapes, and 16kB on disk. A client
request a file can leed into grabbing a tape and bring
back the data online to disk.
1) NFS Client waits for data until it's coming, even 1 day
2) (NT)/smbclient gets 16k

Save/Load function()-result to file in a loop
Hi,
I am looking for a way to save the result of a function, e.g the lm()-function to a file and reload it afterwards again. I'd like to do that in order to minimize the used memory when running the function in a loop. The actual function I want to store is the evaluate() from the dismo package.
I tried it with save() and load() but I am not sure if that is the way I should do it as I
