rsync using wildcard (*) character
We are using rsync version 2.6.3 and do not intend to upgrade to the latest
version. I am using the following command:-
rsync -arv --files-from=./myfile /app/dd/gesb user@rrslx905:/var/log/hhsb
I want to mention the file list in the "myfile" as follows:-

Bug: rsync erroneously changes modification time
When a file of same length already exists at the destination then the
command 'rsync --archive --size-only' (--archive is same as -rlptgoD)
may change the modification time of the destination file even if no
modification was made.
Type the following commands in a terminal in order to reproduce the problem:
$ mkdir source
$ mkdir target
$ echo "file one" > source/file

A small addition to the manpage and "clone mode" suggestion
Dear developers,
In the rsync's manpage, there is a line describing the "archive mode"
option:
-a, --archive archive mode; equals -rlptgoD (no -H,-A,-X)
Archive mode means that all data is backed up sensibly while the same
doesn't apply for all metadata (hence the mentioned -H, -A and -X options).
There is another similar "special file system option" as

owner and group
Hello,
I am trying to copy, on the same server, a set of files. I need to
copy them every day with a cron job.
This is working fine the only problem is that he always changes the
owner and group to the root user.
Is there a possibility that he uses the user of the remote files and
not the root user ?

filled maps
Hi R-Help,
I would like to make filled contour maps of ocean data overlaid by
costlines from the map package.
I can draw the filled contours and the coastlines om the same plot, but
the filled contour also covers part of the land. To get rid of that I
tried to draw a filled coastline map on top of the filled contour, but
the filled map only draws the closed contours - so most of the land is

[PATCHv2 vringh 0/3] Introduce CAIF Virtio driver
From: Sjur Br?ndeland <sjur.brandeland at stericsson.com>
This driver depends on Rusty's new host virtio ring implementation,
so this patch-set is based on the vringh branch in Rusty's git.
Changes since V1:
- Use the new iov helper functions, and simplify iov handling.
However this triggers compile warnings, as it takes struct iov
while kernel api uses struct kiov
- Introduced

Now I've run into a problem: whenever I try to move/copy a message

anything else) says:
The current command did not succeed. The mail server responded: Failed

and in the logs I get:

Question on folder sync with "directory name translation"
Hello everyone,
I'm new to this mailing list but I have been using rsync for some years up
to now.
I'm trying to synchronize two directory trees, but I want a special
behavior that I didn't find on the net nor in the manual (or maybe there is
a combination of options to get what I want but I couldn't find it).
Tree A is like:
A

And tree B (on a remote

Rsync - does it really do an *exact* copy?
Hi Rsync-ers
I'm simply using rsync to do an exact copy of my root (and home) partition by using the -aHv options.
When the copy is complete, I modify fstab so my root and home mount points are pointing to the newly copied partitions.
When I boot (into the new partitions), init and all the services start okay; however, when I get to "mgetty" and it passes control to

using rsync to transfer only files and not sub-directories
Hi All,
I am trying to rsync contents of a directory while making sure that "only"
files under that directory are synched and "not" the contents of any
sub-directory under that dir.
I know that I will have to use the include/exclude option but not sure how.
Can some please help?
Thanks

rsycnc copies all files
Hi
I am making an extraordinary claim: rysnc seems to copy all my files,
not just ones that have changed or new files.
rsync version 2.6.0 protocol version 27
Debian 3.0 Woody
I have tested this with one simple file, my example is shown below.
Does anyone have any suggestions to rectify this?
Regards
Gareth
example:
I create a file called 'testfile' in /tmp/play containing the
